Abstract

The emergency rope down mechanism operates on a single cable or rope (15) suspended from the wndow of any upper floor. The mechanism is contained in a housing (2) fitted with a shackle to which the person to be rescued is attached by a suitable harness. Inside the housing a pulley (7) with a groove (10) is fitted on an axle (6) on the extended part (16) of which the rotor (18) operates in an oil filled chamber (17). The housing (2) also contains a pulley (9) rotating freely on an axle (8) which is seated in sloping slots (11, 12) of the housing. The braking effect of the rotor (18) in conjunction with the pressure of the pulley (9) against the cable (15) ensures a controlled speed sliding down movement of the mechanism loaded with the weight of the person.
