Detailed description of the invention In the devices proposed here, the stated disadvantages are to be reduced significantly. It is based on the principle of light concentration, as proposed in German patent application P 2554226.1 of December 2, 1975 for use in display systems (see FIG. 1). Light (2) is concentrated in a few millimeters thick plastic plate (1) made of a transparent base material (such as e.g. plexiglass) into a narrow wavelength range by embedded fluorescence centers. Most of the fluorescent light (3) remains in the plastic plate due to total reflection. The part V that is not totally reflected is (n refractive index of the plastic base material; for Plexiglas: n = 1.49; V = 25%) The plate is mirrored on the end faces (4) so that no light can escape. At the desired point, the light is removed by deflecting it at a suitable structure, e.g. a mirrored notch (5). In Fig. 1, (6) means the display system which acts as a controllable light gate.
It is now proposed here to use such a light concentrator to combine a solar cell, which leads to considerable advantages. An estimate and the experiment also shows that about 75% of the incident light is concentrated can be removed at any point on the plate. A restriction is that the length dimensions of the plate below the absorption length of the Fluorescent light (order of magnitude meters easily accessible) must remain. A simple one Embodiment shows Fig. 2. Sunlight (2) is in the light concentrator (1) absorbed and with a quantum yield of approximately 100% in fluorescent light (3) implemented and redirected to the mirrored notches (5) so that it is the plate leaves and impinges on the solar cell (7), where it is converted into electrical energy will. Another very effective embodiment is shown in FIG. 3. The plate-shaped Light concentrator (1) is reflective on 2 end faces (4) and on the other 2 Front surfaces not mirrored. The fluorescent light occurs on the non-mirrored end faces and hits the solar cells (7).
The use of such a concentrator initially brings considerable benefits The entire energy conversion system is cheaper because of the area of the solar cell can be a factor of 10 to 2000 smaller than the energy-collecting area. the Plastic sheet is considerably cheaper than the solar cell. Therefore one can with optimal Solar cells work with high efficiency.
The light concentrator also has physical and technical advantages with it that allow the efficiency above that of the best normal solar cells to increase. These advantages are outlined below.
Optimization of the solar cell for a narrow wavelength range Since the fluorescent light is in a narrow wavelength range (typical half width 40 nanometers) is offered, the solar cell can be designed and optimized precisely for it will. This relates to the depth of the p-n junction and anti-reflective layers in particular to the breadth of the forbidden Ribbon of semiconductor. The optimization can also rely on the geometric adaptation of the coupling structure to the conductor track structure refer to the solar cell. Solar cells must have conductor tracks on the surface, because the thin surface layers of the semiconductor are insufficient despite high doping Have conductivity. These metallized surfaces fall for the lighting collection the end. According to FIG. 8, the conductor tracks can be left out of the irradiation and therefore be optimally dimensioned. For this purpose, the fluorescent light exit surface of the light concentrator, a mirror structure (9) is applied that exactly matches the conductor track structure (8) on the solar cell (7) corresponds. The fluorescent light exit surface and the solar cells are then optically connected to one another via a suitable film (10) Brought into contact that the structures (8) and (9) overlap.
B.2. Effectiveness of the device also for diffuse daylight The concentrator is also fully sensitive to diffuse light. There are z. B.
Arrangements known where sunlight using mirrors on solar cells high efficiency is concentrated. These have the disadvantage that the mirrors are permanent Must be aligned to the sun, so this principle only applies when the sky is clear functions. It is also known that with diffuse incidence of light and easily under overcast skies the energy radiation is only slightly reduced, but is non-directional occurs. The device according to the invention has the advantage that it is diffuse at diffuse Light remains fully effective and, moreover, does not require complex tracking.
Effective use of the energy content of sunlight Conventional Solar cells have the disadvantage that the full energy of the light quanta is not used because all photons have a higher energy than that of the forbidden band of the semiconductor material, this excess energy is not converted into electrical energy but is lost as heat. Silicon e.g. B. has a bandwidth of 1, 1 eV. However, the maximum of sunlight is at 2.58 eV. Pro photon becomes independent of its original energy only converted about 1 eV, which means quantitatively that in a silicon cell about 40% of the energy is not used in this way will. There are suggestions how to increase the efficiency by using a Solar cell with variable band gap or through heterojunctions or through stratification of solar cells with different band gaps. All of these suggestions have not achieved any importance so far, as they are either technically difficult to implement or are too costly.
With the help of the concentrators according to the invention, a better one can be obtained Exploiting the different energy ranges of sunlight in a very simple way Way to achieve. Fig. 4 shows a multilayer arrangement with one behind the other Concentrators and solar cells. Concentrator (1 a) is designed so that the higher Energy components of sunlight (2) including UV, i.e. the shorter waves be converted into fluorescent light of also short wavelength. Solar cell (7 a) is on matched this wavelength, d. H. consists of a High band gap semiconductor material. Since the stored in concentrator (1 a) If fluorescent centers only absorb in the range of short wavelengths, the light goes in the wavelength range above it passes through unhindered and hits the Concentrator (1 b), which converts another wavelength range, and the solar cell (7 b) feeds. (7 b) is designed accordingly, i.e. it consists of semiconductor material of a smaller band gap than (7 a). (1 c) and (7 c) are accordingly to the long-wave portion adapted. Fig. 4 is of course only an example Embodiment. You can use more than 3 layers, but also only 2 layers. Through the use of concentrators connected several times one behind the other with adapted solar cells can achieve a significant increase in efficiency, which significantly exceeds the losses of the concentrators. Thus, the overall system an efficiency that is higher than with the best known solar cells is.
Series connection is only possible with the concentrator system, because solar cells are not permeable to radiation even without significant impairment Solar cells contain electrical contacts as well as highly doped ones Zones that both have high absorption. As the basic material of the concentrators is transparent, there are also lower reflection losses than with semiconductors. Due to the series connection, reflection losses occur at the boundary surfaces which are low because of the high level of transparency. On the other hand it results but an increase in efficiency by the fact that fluorescent light, which is emitted downwards outside the angle of total reflection, from the next plate is recorded and there through the embedded fluorescence centers is recycled. These losses are therefore almost halved.
The good transparency of the concentrators also makes use of them the thermal radiation that cannot be converted by solar cells is possible. Fig. 9 shows how the IR radiation (14) passes through the concentrators (1 a, 1 b) and a radiation absorber (13) for IR radiation, which converts this remaining radiation into heat.
Special embodiments The geometry of the concentrators can designed differently and in particular the coupling of light can be optimized. The shape shown in Fig. 1, 2 and 4 with the solar cells in the middle of the concentrators is only one possibility. You can also see the solar cells on the edge of the concentrators arrange and thus fully utilize the area as shown in Fig. 5.
Here the solar cells (7) are on non-mirrored end faces the light concentrators (1) attached. Another way of coupling out light Fig. 6 represents. In this modification, the light concentrators (1) are on opposite edges elbow extensions (11) for the 90 ° deflection of the light. the Surfaces of the elbow extensions (11) are to avoid light loss with a reflective coating (12) provided.
It should also be mentioned that the Arrangements shown, anti-reflective layers on the solar cells are not absolutely necessary because reflected light remains in the system and is not lost.
The arrangement according to FIG. 6 is also suitable for multilayer arrangements.
(1 a) are the upper concentrators with associated solar cells (7 a), (1 b) are the lower concentrators with associated solar cells (7 b). The solar cells with selective sensitivity for short wavelengths have one increased efficiency with higher light concentration and are insensitive to higher temperatures. Therefore, the concentration factor for the different Different wavelength ranges can be selected. This is shown in Fig. 10 for a two-layer arrangement. For the upper concentrators (1 a) with associated Solar cells (7 a), which absorb the shorter wavelengths, is the light concentration higher than for the lower concentrators (1 b) with associated solar cells (7 b), which implement the longer-wave range.
In the solar cells, a considerable part of the light energy is in Heat implemented. To use this heat and to use the solar cells on a cheap To maintain temperature, it is recommended that the solar cells for heat dissipation on a Mount cooling device The last embodiment is pointed out to the possibility of using light concentrators of the type described Can be combined with both solar cells and display systems at the same time as in the German patent application P 2554226 mentioned at the beginning. 1. That means, one part of the concentrated ambient light to illuminate the Used display systems and the other part for the generation of electrical energy for the electrical control of the display of a solar cell feeds. Combined with an electric accumulator as an energy storage device gives display devices>, whose energy requirements are always fully covered by the ambient light.
