Addition of a large excess of protective colloids or suitable electrolytes. From US-PS 30 84 132 it is also known a Manufacture microsol from a cross-linked organic polymer, the individual microgel particles to impregnate with a silver compound and to reduce the silver compound to metallic silver. In this way of working, however, no silver sol is created, but a colloidal dispersion of microgel particles, which are coated with metallic silver.
There has now been a process for the production of stable silver brines by reducing aqueous silver salt solutions found, which is characterized in that a polymer is used as the reducing agent, its mean degree of polymerization (number average!) is between 10 and 100 and that from 4 to 45 basic mole percent of units of the general formula

The invention relates to a method of manufacture stable silver brine by reducing aqueous silver salt solutions.
Sie lassen sich beispielsweise sogar einfrieren und wieder auftauen, ohne daß durch dieseNumerous processes for the production of silver sols by reducing aqueous silver salt solutions are already known. Hydrogen was used as a reducing agent. Aldehydes, ketones, phenols, and white phosphorus have been suggested. However, silver sols produced by the known processes can only be kept unprotected in a very dilute state. Concentrated brines require a structure, where the sum of the basic mole percent is 100 and A stands for an alkali metal, ammonium or hydrogen, and the silver salt solution is heated in the presence of this polymer at a pH between 7 and 11 to a temperature between 60 and 100 1 C, the amount of the polymer being such that the total amount of units of the general formula 1 is at least equivalent to the amount of silver ions used. According to the process according to the invention, silver brines with concentrations of up to 100 g Ag per liter can be produced. It is particularly suitable for the production of brines with 0.01 to 40 g Ag / 1, in particular with 0.05 to 25 g Ag / 1. Surprisingly, the sols have excellent stability even with relatively high concentrations of silver and in the absence of additional stabilizing substances. For example, they can even be frozen and thawed again without this
Behandlung der kolloidale Zustand beeinträchtigt wird.Treatment of the colloidal condition is impaired.
The polymers to be used in the process according to the invention can be prepared in a known manner will. Those polymers are preferably used which are produced by oxidative copolymerization of acrolein with acrylic acid. This procedure is e.g. in DT-OS 19 42 556 described. This results in polyaldehydocarboxylic acids, which mainly consist of units of the above general formulas I and II and, if appropriate, minor amounts of units of the above general formula IV are constructed. By neutralizing the free polyaldehydocarboxylic acids with Alkali hydroxides or ammonium hydroxide can be used to produce the corresponding salts.
The polyaldehydocarboxylic acids or polyaldehydocarboxylates mentioned can thereby be modified further be that the units of the above general formula I contained in them partially with a Alkali hydroxide can be implemented according to Cannizzaro. With this treatment, besides additional Incorporating the above general formula II, units of the above general formula III are also formed. However, the implementation according to Cannizzaro must of course not be allowed until complete sales of all units of the above general formula I are continued because those according to the invention Process to be used polymers in each case still those essential for the reduction of the silver ions Must contain aldehyde groups.
The polymers to be used in the process according to the invention should have an average degree of polymerization (Number average) from 10 to 100, preferably from 20 to 80. They should also look out 4 to 45, preferably 5 to 28, basic mole percent of units of the general formula 1, 55 to 96, preferably 70 to 88, basic mole percent of units of the general formula II, 0 to 11, preferably 0 to 5, Basic mole percent of units of the general formula III and 0 to 10, preferably 2 to 7, basic mole percent Units of the general formula IV are built up, the order of the units (I). (H), (III) and (IV) in the polymer molecules is random. Under "basic mole percent" is the middle one To understand the number of respective formula units per a total of 100 formula units in the molecular chain. The polymers can be used as free acids, as alkali salts or as ammonium salts. The sodium salts are used for reference.
The method according to the invention can in principle be used Carry out with the solutions of all water-soluble silver salts, it is particularly useful however, to start from silver nitrate solutions. To get a complete reduction of all silver ions achieve, the polymer to be used according to the invention must be present in such an amount that the total content of aldehyde groups in the form of units of the general formula I of the reducing amount of silver ions is at least equivalent, one aldehyde group having two silver ions / u can reduce. However, the polymer can also be used in excess, and up to about ten times the minimum amount required by the sloichiometry.

Provided that the silver sol does not contain additional substances in the intended use disturbs, the stability can be further improved if you either use the silver salt solution the reduction or the finished silver sol a known protective colloid in amounts of about 0.1 to adds about OJ times the amount of silver ions or colloidal silver used. Especially Suitable for this are polypeptides which are colloidally soluble in water, such as gelatin or sodium protalbinal.
Then 500 g of sodium protalbinate (as a 50% strength aqueous solution) are added with stirring.
Silver ions can no longer be detected in the silver sol. It remains even with the addition of a strong one Electrolytes (saturated ammonium chloride solution) perfectly clear.
