Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
In patent 177053 and patent 181509 is describes a process for the development of gaseous formaldehyde from polymerized formaldehyde, which consists in that one has alkaline metal superoxides or those derived from them Salts of peracids act on polymerized formaldehyde in the presence of water leaves. In this case, the formaldehyde is converted from the polymeric modification into the gaseous one and for the most part driven from the reaction solution. It has now been further found that this peculiar Reaction occurs even with ordinary formaldehyde as soon as this with the alkaline one Superoxide or one of the persalts comes into contact, depending on the one used Quantity ratio only a development of formaldehyde gas (mixed with oxygen) or with simultaneous partial Oxidation and heat generation a complete evaporation of the formaldehyde solutions takes place. The resulting from the process Analogous to the products of the main patent, gases contain formaldehyde as an essential component, depending on the Reaction conditions slightly larger or smaller amounts of oxygen (originated from the hydrogen peroxide formed in the reaction) and small amounts of hydrogen are added.
Der Wert diesesIn the work by H. Geisow »About The oxidation of formaldehyde with superoxides is indicated that when it is poured over of barium peroxide with formalin solution "initially no effect at all" takes place and that gas bubbles of hydrogen then develop. Has formaldehyde evolution the author of this work did not receive it. This can also be easily explained by that he did not work according to the present procedure and in his attempt, which he employed merely to study the oxidation of formaldehyde, such a large one Amount of formalin solution used that he did not develop formaldehyde at all received. The present technically valuable process for development for disinfection purposes formaldehyde consists in the fact that the barium superoxide d with about three to three Pour four times the amount of formalin solution. If these conditions are observed a vigorous evolution of gas occurs, which increases slowly until it develops a great deal of heat the reaction mixture begins to boil with evolution of formaldehyde and water vapor. The value of this

Von einer solchen Wasserdampfentwicklung ist aber an der genannten Stelle ebensowenigProcess for disinfection is based precisely on the fact that in the development of the Formaldehyde contains the amount of water vapor necessary to oversaturate the air. It is well known that this amount of water must be available in order to be able to use a disinfectant To enable the effect of the formaldehyde. From such a water vapor development but is just as little at the point mentioned
ίο something has been mentioned as of development of formaldehyde at all. The experiment made by Ge is ο w is, therefore, as well the given equation expresses run in a completely different sense, apparently because of the Author has used excessive amounts of formaldehyde. The formation of large amounts of hydrogen but must be avoided at all costs due to the risk of oxyhydrogen explosions. This The goal is achieved if you follow the procedure described above with the above Proportions works. The amount of hydrogen is then only a few percent by volume the total amount of gas that develops. On the other hand, it is also not advisable to reduce the amount of formaldehyde to take much less, because otherwise the Formaldehyde development is not sufficient for disinfection purposes.
At first there is a vigorous evolution of gas, which gradually increases to below The reaction mixture begins to generate strong heat, with the development of formaldehyde and to boil water vapor. With the help of this reaction, formaldehyde solutions can be created use to disinfect rooms without using a heat source.
