MASSIMO TORTELLI in GENUA.MASSIMO TORTELLI in GENOA.
Celluloid residues (cutlets, fragments, shavings, worn objects) are first powdered in a suitable machine and then in suitable containers brought together with a sufficiently dilute aqueous solution of 10 to 15 percent of potassium sulphide (or in general of sulphides, polysulphides, hydrosulphides or sulphocarbonates of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals or earth metals). The mass is left in the closed vessel for 12 to 15 hours Digest with repeated stirring and after this time by opening a suitable one Drain valve in a centrifuge to drop so much in this by spinning off as possible the sulfur-containing reagent and at the same time the now reduced nitric acid, which was previously bound to the cellulose in the form of an ester. On that the cellulose mass is washed out with water and spun again until the the last residues of the reagent used for denitration have been removed, whereupon the mass with slightly more abundant amount of water than its own volume, which is about 3 percent alkali and alum are added, is placed in a suitable still, in which it is treated with appropriately superheated steam, with the total amount of camphor (and also the other volatile substances such as naphthalene, etc.) carried on and unchanged by the steam is released again in a suitable condenser in cold water, whereas the regenerated cellulose without loss remains in the still. After being removed from this, the cellulose becomes freed from the water again by means of the centrifuge and dried in an oven then in this state or after a previous bleaching in the To bring trade. The camphor that collects in the condenser is centrifuged separated from most of the water and then pressed into breads or through in Sublimation carried out using a suitable apparatus, cleaned and then packaged. '
The denitration liquid, which contains a sulphide, hydrosulphide, polysulphide or sulphocarbonate of an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or earth metal, can be used for digesting the mass six to seven times after use, if each time about 1 Z 5 of the originally applied amount of the reagent is added will.
After the denitration reagent for several repeated treatments served and now in addition to the unchanged sulfides or polysulfides the alkali sulphates formed during the reaction together with a certain amount of cellulose components contains, the lye can be used in such a way that, after evaporation of the solvent, the residue, if necessary with the addition of organic substances or charcoal, in a charcoal crucible with red heat is reduced to obtain alkaline sulfur, which is used for the preparation of the denitration liquid can serve.
Die vorstehend beschriebene Erfindung besteht also in einer Behandlung der Rückstände oder Abfälle von Celluloid, die in der WeiseThe invention described above therefore consists in treating the residues or wastes of celluloid that are in the way

Nitrocelluloseit is stated that the main components of the celluloid itself (namely cellulose, nitric acid, Camphor) are systematically separated from each other. Celluloid is known to be one solid solution of camphor in nitrocellulose. In the present process, the known ability of alkali sulfides and sulfhydrates, the nitric acid esters of To break down cellulose or the so-called nitrocellulose
Here but at the same time a mixture of the other components of the celluloid, camphor and, is created the regenerated cellulose, which, since they are neither soluble in one another nor form compounds, simply form a mixture and can now be separated easily and quantitatively, in the manner indicated above by means of steam, which contains all of the camphor continues and leaves the cellulose behind.
The invention is based in particular on a denitration process based on Waste celluloid is applied, with the specific intention of the nitrocellulose molecule to decompose and thus to obtain cellulose and camphor which are not soluble with one another, so that this can easily be separated from that by distillation. The procedure can therefore except by means of the specified sulfur compounds also by means of another, the Denitration causing substance or mixture, such as. B. dilute nitric acid, are executed.
The facilities used to carry out this procedure are not detailed here because they can be of any suitable or known type.
