Der Apparat besteht aus einem doppelwandigen, theils aus Blech, theils aus Gufseisen gefertigten Cylinder α, in welchem sowohl in der Mitte als auch an dem inneren Umfange vertheilt die aus einzelnen, einander dachförmig deckenden Rohrstücken gebildeten Rohre b b angebracht sind. In dem oberen Deckel befinden sich die verschliefsbaren Einträge-Öffnungen, durch welche das Material eingebracht wird.
