Abstract

Two propellers (1, 2) are housed inside a tube (3) which is open at both ends, the propellers being rotated in the same direction, but at different speeds. The first propeller is mounted on a hollow drive shaft (5) and rotated at a lower speed than the second propeller, which is mounted on a drive shaft (4) extending through the hollow shaft. Two identical size pinions provided on the engine output shaft (8) are used to drive a large pinion on the hollow shaft and a small pinion on the inner shaft.
