Description

Device for installing a side awning as privacy and sun protection.

The invention relates to a device for lateral sun or privacy protection, which can be used individually or in conjunction with awnings of various shapes to provide additional protection against disturbing skylight or sun rays shining from above. The device is designed in such a way that it can be attached individually or on both sides of awnings.

The device consists of an arm that can be swivelled out by approximately 90 degrees and which can be attached to the awning's holding elements or directly to a house wall or a roof shelter via a swivel joint and a lever mechanism.

A sun protection blind or vertically adjustable slatted blind is attached to the swivelled-out arm, either fixed or longitudinally adjustable, and can be adjusted to different heights depending on the position of the sun.

Description

With normal commercially available awnings, the unrolled fabric only provides an upper cover as protection against sky or sunlight, and in special versions an additional awning that slides out vertically can also be inserted from the front extended fabric holder.

However, at least one additional lateral sun, privacy or weather protection is often desired, especially when the sun is rising or setting and the sunlight is shining at an angle.

The invention was based on the task of creating a device that can be attached to commercially available awnings and ensures lateral sun protection. The device can also be retrofitted to awnings that have already been set up and installed.

Solutions for side protection on awnings are known in various forms as described below.

A. A single side awning can be hung up or taken down later if required. This process is always strenuous, cumbersome and sometimes difficult to handle.

B. From the published patent application DE 3643849 A1 a device is known where a side curtain can be moved into various extended positions when the ceiling awning is extended. The disadvantage of this device is that the side curtain is effective in a finite length and cannot be used when not extended, i.e. even when the ceiling awning is not extended, and hangs as a vertical curtain pushed together next to or under the awning and when extended does not allow for the minimum required height-adjustable sun protection.

The subsequent installation of the winding device for the curtain rope on existing awnings is considered to be very difficult.

C. Utility model G 8708007.9 discloses a device in which an accordion-shaped part and a roller blind can be pulled out as side protection from one or two vertical cassettes. This device also requires that the cassette can always be arranged vertically, which usually requires a wall bracket and, furthermore, this solution does not allow the side protection to be adjusted to different heights. It should also not be overlooked that this is an expensive and complex device.

These known solutions described all have the following disadvantages in common:

a.Side sun protection not height adjustable.

b.When the side sun protection is not required, the folded or pushed-together protective cloths are usually arranged vertically next to the ceiling awning and are particularly annoying when the ceiling awning is attached to the underside of roofing and there is no wall bracket to hold or attach the pushed-together side protection.

The innovation of the described device eliminates these disadvantages and is presented as follows

Fig.l shows a ceiling awning with roller cloth shaft and articulated arm adjustment mechanism with a pivoted arm attached to the awning frame to accommodate the side sun protection.

Fig.2 shows the individual representation of the pivoted Annes with its joint lock and the attached and movable raised side protection.

Fig.3 shows the individual representation of the swung-out arm with a sliding double arm, the effective joint lock and a sliding lowered side guard.

The device (Fig.l) consists of the pivoting arm (l) which is guided in a bearing block (2) which is firmly connected to the retaining clamp (5) attached to the awning frame (4) via tiltable fastening recesses (3).

For stabilization and locking, the pivoted arm (1) is held in a guide block (6), which is also attached to the awning frame (4) via the clamp (5), and is secured against automatic opening with the locking lever (7).

It is advisable to attach this arm to the awning frame (4) individually or on both sides under the edge of the awning fabric. The clamps (5) must be adapted for different types of awning frame (square or round tube).

To lock the swung-out arm (l) (Fig. 2 and 3), a double-jointed lever (8) is used which is connected in an articulated manner to the guide block (5) and the arm (l). After releasing the lever (7), the arm (l) can swing out automatically into its end position by the tension spring (9).

To adjust any inclined ceiling awnings, the arm (l) can be adjusted in the swung-out position using the tilting devices attached to the mounting brackets (3) on the bearing block (2).

The side protection (l 1) is attached to the arm (l) (Fig. 2) via the sliding bushings (10) as sun or safety protection and can thus be adjusted lengthwise on the arm (l).

For inclined arms (l), louvre blinds (12) have proven to be effective sun protection. They can be lowered to different lengths by means of their multiple individual cords and thus also ensure vertically hanging side protection.

The use of roller blinds (13) as a cloth is only appropriate for side protection when the arm (1) is swung out horizontally, as it cannot be rolled out at an angle.

If a wider side protection is desired, the arm (1) can be connected to an extension arm (14), which is conveniently done via a sliding connection (15) in order to be able to move the side protection.

For attachment to sloping or vertical walls with a desired vertical position of the arm (l), the design of the bearing block (2) with the guide block (6) can be adapted to the shape of the wall so that the arm (l) with the attached side protection (l 1) can be swung up. Adjustments to the arm inclination that may be necessary can be made by adjusting the articulated lever (9) (not shown).

Claims (5)

1. Device for holding roller blinds, vertically adjustable cloth or slatted blinds as sun or privacy protection, characterized in that at least one arm which can be pivoted by approximately 90 degrees in a horizontal or vertical direction is attached via a swivel joint to the support rod of an awning for light rays falling from above (ceiling awning) or to vertical wall surfaces in such a way that, if necessary, the arm can be pivoted out independently of the position of the ceiling awning and locks itself automatically in both positions. 2. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the locking device of the arm to the support frame of the awning consists of two articulated levers which are spring-connected to one another and the spring ensures that the arm pivots automatically into the end position and locks this position. 3. Device according to claim 1 and 2, characterized in that the arm consists of two mutually displaceable arm halves. 4. Device according to claims 1, 2 and 3, characterized in that vertically adjustable fabric blinds or curtains in fabric or slat construction are attached to the arm and can be moved laterally relative to the arm. 5. Device according to claim 3, characterized in that the blinds or curtains are attached to both arm halves in order to arrange a different effective width of the side sun protection.
