Andererseits gestatten diese Riß- oder Bruchstellen nach Aktivierung des Gasgenerators, daß sich das Fußpolster schlagartig innerhalb von wenigen Millisekunden auf volle Größe aufblasen läßt, wobei dann die Fixierung des Teppichs an der akustikdämpfenden Schicht aufgehoben wird, dadurch, daß die Unterseite des Teppichs von den Fixierstellen abreißt.
