Abstract

PURPOSE:To protect a passenger against a shock by actuating a lift-up means when a deceleration exceeds a predetermined value upon a bump of a vehicle, so as to project upward the front part of the seat surface of a seat in order restrain the waist of the passenger from excessively moving forward. CONSTITUTION:A lift up device 4 is disposed in the front part 1a of a seating part of a seat 1. The lift-up device 4 is composed of bellows 5 made of rubber or the like, and an inflator 6 for inflating the bellows 5. The inflator 6 is charged therein with gas generating agent 6a consisting of sodium nitride or the like. Further, the gas generating agent 6a is ignited and burnt by a signal from a bump detecting device 7 for detecting an acceleration which is greater than a predetermined value and which acts upon a vehicle. With this arrangement, the bellows 5 are expanded upward with the use of the pressure of burnt gas so as to allow the front part 1a to project upward (1a'), thereby it is possible to restrain the waist of the passenger from excessively moving forward.
