^ K2MnO, +2 K2O It is known that the alkali manganates can easily break down into permanganates and manganese superoxide according to the equation:
^ K 2 MnO, +2 K 2 O
= 2 KMn O4 + MnO2+ 4 KOH. = 2 KMn O 4 + MnO 2 + 4 KOH.
Hence, it is a priori to be very un-. probably to see that the reverse Reaction: the conversion of permanganate and manganese peroxide to manganate in practical usable measure should be possible. And yet the experiment shows that this reaction goes on in a very perfect way under the right conditions.
If one treats manganese peroxide, especially that of the hydrate form, at Presence of strong alkaline lyes with strong heating and stirring with potassium or sodium permanganate, a very perfect conversion takes place in the reverse Meaning of the above equation instead, if one takes care that the permanganate in each case is only present in very low concentration. The latter condition is for A good utilization of the permanganate is necessary because otherwise the same in the slow course of the implementation largely with evolution of oxygen Manganate disintegrates without having an oxidative effect.
Permanganaten aufbauen.Since the manganate can easily be converted into permanganate "using known methods can, a process for technical extraction can be applied to the implementation in question build up of manganates or permanganates.
Gibt man z. Are you z. B. the manganese superoxide to be oxidized, in an about 30 to 40 percent Potassium hydroxide suspended, simultaneously with a small amount of permanganate or manganate in the anode compartment of a .electrolytic bath and electrolyzed with vigorous stirring and heating, so becomes due to the existing permanganate from manganese superoxide Manganate formed; the latter goes through the action of the current in permanganate about, which in turn transforms further brownstone into manganate, etc. There the permanganate is only produced in very small quantities during electrolysis, see above Under these circumstances, according to what has been said above, it comes about in a very perfect way to the effect.
The resulting manganate can either be used as such, possibly after prior separation .von the lye, or it can be done according to known methods in Transfer permanganate.
B. Ferricyankalium, ersetzen. Das letztere vermag bekanntlich in * alkalischer Lösung Mangansuperoxyd in Permanganat überzuführen. Setzt man also zur Einleitung des Oxy- ■ dationsprozesses anstatt Manganat oder Permanganat etwas Ferricyankalium zu, so wirdIn order to initiate the process of manganate formation, - is one from the start according to the above a certain amount of permanganate or manganate is necessary, and this can also be done by other oxidizing agents, e.g. B. Potassium ferricyanide. The latter can known to convert manganese peroxide into permanganate in an alkaline solution. So if one uses to initiate the oxidation ■ process instead of manganate or permanganate some potassium ferricyanide too, so will
