Gegenstand vorliegender Erfindung ist ein Verfahren zur Entwässerung von Alkoholen, welches im Wesen darin besteht, daß das Wasser den Alkoholen durch metallisches Calcium entzogen wird. Das Verfahren ist sowohl zur Erzeugung von gewöhnlichem »absolutem Alkohol« als auch besonders zur Erzeugung von ganz wasserfreiem Äthylalkohol geeignet. Das Verfahren wird derart ausgeführt, daß der 94 bis 96prozentige Alkohol mit der nötigen Menge Calcium erst erwärmt, dann destilliert wird. Das metallische Calcium wird in Form von Spänen angewendet. Die Behandlung mit Calcium kann auch wiederholt werden. Der so gewonnene Alkohol würde infolge des Nitridgehaltes des metallischen Calciums Ammoniak bezw. dessen Derivate enthalten; um diese zu umgehen, wird das erhaltene Produkt auch noch in bekannter Weise mit Säuren oder sauer reagierenden Salzen behandelt. Vorzugsweise wird dies so ausgeführt, daß der Alkoholdampf bei der Destillation durch gebrannten Alaun geleitet wird.The present invention is a process for the dehydration of alcohols, which essentially consists in the fact that the water is withdrawn from the alcohols by metallic calcium.
