Die Ringöffnung von cyclischen Äthern durch Ammoniak, primäre oder sekundäre Amine unter
Bildung der entsprechenden Aminoalkohole ist bekannt.
Während die Reaktion bei Epoxiden bereits unter milden Bedingungen spontan und in guten Ausbeuten
verläuft, sind Oxetane nur schwierig mit Aminen umzusetzen. Reaktionsteinperaturen von 150
bis 200 C und Wasser als Reaktionsmedium sowie lange Reaktionszeiten sind erforderlich. Die Ausbeulen
sind mäßig, insbesondere bei einer Umsetzung mit sekundären Aminen. Nach S. Sea rl es und
V. P. Gregory. J. Amer. ehem. Soc, 76, 278^
(1954). laßt sich die Reaktion weder durch Säurer
noch durch Basen beeinflussen.
Tatsächlich ist ein Zusatz katalytischer Menger von beispielsweise Schwefel-, Bromwasserstoff- bzw
Perchlorsäure oder Borfluoridätherat praktisch ohm Einfluß auf Reakiionsdauer und Ausbeute. Höhen
Konzentrationen starker Säuren bewirken zwar Ringöffnung, jedoch unter Addition der Säure selbst
wenn ihr Anion genügend nucleophil ist. Bei der Ringöffnuni: mit Schwefel- oder Perchlorsäure wird formal
Wasser addiert. Das Amin nimmt überhaupt nichl an der Reaktion teil.
Es wurde nun überraschenderweise gefunden, daC man 3-Aminopropanole in guter Ausbeute erhält,
wenn man ein Oxetan der Formel

Reste wie R1 und R2 stehen, jedoch keine primäre
oder sekundäre Aminogruppe sowie kein aktives Halogen enthalten, in Gegenwart von 0.01 bis
1 VaI eines schwach sauren Katalysators mit einem pKs-Wert von 2,7 bis 7,5 gegebenenfalls in Anwesenheit
eines polaren Lösungsmittels und gegebenenfalls unter Druck im Temperaturbereich
von etwa 150 bis etwa 250°C umsetzt.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man in Gegenwart von Kohlendioxid
oder Salzen der Kohlensäure als schwach saurem Katalysator umsetzt.
3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 und 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man als sekundäre Amine
technische Amine einsetzt, welche Kohlendioxid · als schwach sauren Katalysator enthalten.

0.01 bis 0,2 VaI Säureäquivalente) eines schwach sauren Katalysators mit einem pKs-Wert von 2,7
bis 7,5, gegebenenfalls in Anwesenheit eines polaren Lösungsmittels und gegebenenfalls unter Druck, im
Temperaturbereich von etwa 150 bis etwa 25O°C umsetzt.
Als gegebenenfalls substituierte aliphatische Reste seien Alkylreste mit 1 bis 18 Kohlenstoffatomen,
vorzugsweise I bis 6 Kohlenstoffatomen, genannt, die als Substituenten Halogen (vorzugsweise Fluor,
Chlor, Brom). Hydroxyl-, Mercapto-, Amino-, niedere Alkylamino- oder Dialkylaminogruppen enthalten,
deren Hydroxylgruppen durch monofunktionelle, gegebenenfalls " verzweigte aliphatische Alkohole mit
1 bis 18 Kohlenstoffatomen oder mit gegebenenfalls durch niederes Alkyl. Chlor. Brom oder NO2 substituierten
monofunktionellcn Phenolen vcräthert sein können. R1 und R2 können selbstverständlich auch für
gegebenenfalls durch Halogen (vorzugsweise Fluor, Chlor, Brom), Hydroxyl-. Mercapto-, Amino-, niedere
Alkylamino- oder durch Dialkylaminogruppen substituierte cycloaliphatische Kohlenwasserstoffe mit
5 bis 7 Ringgliedern stehen.
Forner können die Hydroxylgruppen auch mit einer
gegebenenfalls 1 bis 2 Doppelbindungen enthaltenden aliphatisehen Carbonsäure mit bis zu 18 Kohlenstoffatomen oder mit gegebenenfalls durch niederes Alkyl
Chlor. Brom oder NO2 substituierten Ben/.oe- oder
Benzolsulfonsäuren verestert sein. Auch können die basischen Gruppen der aliphatischen Reste R1 und
R: gegebenenfalls durch anorganische oder oruanische
Säuren, wie I ICl. HBr, Schwefel-, Phosphor-,
Kohlen-. Ameisen-. Essig-, Bcnzoc- oder Salicylsäure
neutralisiert sein.
Ebenso kommen als Ausgangskomponenten Oxetane in Frage, die durch CH3CI, Dimethylsulfat,
Diäthylsulfat oder durch gegebenenfalls verzweiütc
Alkylbromide und -jodide mit bis zu 12 Kohlenstoffaiomen
quatcrn.ierte basische Gruppen enthalten.
Arylreste R1 und R2 sind solche mit bis zu 10 Kohlenstoffatomen
(vorzugsweise Phenyl), Aralkylreste solche mit bis zu 12 Kohlenstoffatomen (vorzugsweise
Benzylt. Hie Aryl- bzw. Araikyfresle können gegebenenfalls
durch Halogen (vorzugsweise Fluor,"Chlor. Broml. N(K CN. SO3H, durch Amino-, niedere
Alkyl-. Alkoxy-. Alkylamino-, Dialkylamino- oder Alky !mercapto- Gruppen (vorzugsweise Alkyl mit
bis zu 3 Kohlenstoffatomen), ferner durch den Rest einer niederen aliphatischen Carbonsäure mit 1 bis
3 Kohlenstoffatomen substituiert sein.
Der gegebenenfalls hydrierte, gegebenenfalls durch niederes Alkyl substituierte heterocyclische 4- bis 7-gliedrige
Ring (vorzugsweise 5- bis 7gliedrigcr Ring) kann bis zu 3 Stickstoffatome oder bis zu 2 gleiche,
gegebenenfalls durch eine Methyl- oder Methingruppe unterbrochene Heteroatome oder 3 verschiedene Heteroatome,
wie Stickstoff, Sauerstoff oder Schwefel, enthalten, wobei der 7gliedrige Ring auch ein Bicyclus
sein kann.
Als Substituents des carbocyclischen, 4- bis 7-gliedrigen
Rings (vorzugsweise 5- bis 7gliedrigcr Ring) sind besonders geradkettige oder verzweigte
Alkylreste mit 1 bis 4 Kohlenstoffatomen bevorzugt.

Auch Oxetane, welche reaktionsfähige Halogenatome
tragen, wie zum Teil die schon ei wähnten,
am Aromaten halogensubstituierten Phenoxymethyloxetane. aber auch Halogenmethyloxetane. wie 3.3-Bis-chlormethyloxetan,
3,3- Bis-brommethyl-oxetan. - Chlormethyl - 3 - ρ - nilrophenoxymethyl - oxetan.
- Brommethyl - 3 - hydroxymelhyl - oxetan können eingesetzt werden, wobei neben der Ringöffnung auch
eine Substitutionsreaktion stattfindet, so daß Di- bzw. "Iriamine als Reaktionsprodukte entstehen. In
diesem Fall ist je aktive Halogengruppe zusätzlich mindestens 1 Mol sekundäres Amin erforderlich.
BesonJers bevorzugte Oxetane sind beispielsweise Derivate des Pentaerythrits. wie 3,3-Bis-(hydroxymethy!)-oxetan.
sowie dessen Äther und Fster. ferner die aus l.l.I-I nmethylolalkanen zugänglichen Oxetane.
Besonders bevorzugt sind das 3-Äthyl-3-hydroxvmethyl-oxcian
und das 3-Mcthyl-3-hydroxymethyloxetan.
Geeignete sekundäre Amine sind beispielsweise:
Dimethylamin.
Methyläthylamin.
Diäthylamin.
Dipropylamin,
Dibutylamin.
Piperidin.
A2-Piperidein,
Morpholin.

Bevorzugte sekundäre Amine sind solche, worin R'
einen Alkylresi mil mehr als 4 C-Atomen bedeutet und R"* Methyl ist.
Besonders bevorzugt sind stark basische, sterisch
wenig behindert·; sekundäre Amine, wie Dimethylamin.
Diäthylamin und gegebenenfalls durch niedere
Alkylreste substituiertes Piperidin. Hexamethylenimin, Morpholin oder Pyrrolidin.
Die Umsetzung kann mit oder ohne Lösungsmittel in flüssiger Phase oder in der Gasphase durchgerührt
werden. Bevorzugt sind polare Losungsmittel wie Formamid. Dimethylformamid. Dimelhylsulfoxid. Tetramcthylensulfon
und Athylenglykol. Ganz besonders bevorzugt für das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren wird Wasser als Lösungsmittel verwendet.
Das Amin wird mit dem Oxetan zumindest in äqui-
\alenter Menge umgesetzt Größere Überschüsse begünstigen den Umsatz und mindern im allgemeinen
die Bildung \on Nebenprodukten Durch Anwendung der erfindungsgemäßen Katalysatoren werden jedoch
schon bei geringem Amm-t'berschuß befriedigende Ausbeuten erzielt. Im allgemeinen wird ein
Moherhältnis von 1.11 zu etwa 1.1 bis 1.0 zu etwa K)
angestrebt. Bevorzugt wird jedoch ein Verhältnis von 1.0 zu etwa 4.0 (Oxetan zu Amin).
Die als Katalysatoren verwendeten schwachen anorganischen
oder organischen Sauren mit pKs-Wcrt zwischen 2.7 und 7..·» werden in Substanz oder in Lösung,
bevorzugt wäßriger Lösung dem Reaktionsansatz zugesetzt Der Zeitpunkt der Zugabe ist belanglos,
doch sollte das Oxetan nicht längere Zeit ohne Amin dem Katalysator ausgesetzt sein.
Durch die Gegenwart derartiger Säuren, welche
einen pKs-Wert zwischen 2.7 und 7.5. vorzugsweise 'wischen 4 und 7.5. in wäßriger Lösung bei Raumtemperatur
aufweisen, werden die Ausbeuten an Dialkylaminopropanolen beträchtlich erhöht bzw.
die Reaktionszeiten und Temperaturen herabgesetzt. Insbesondere wird durch den Katalysatorzusatz ein
verbesserter Umsatz des eingesetzten Oxetans erreicht. Durch das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren lassen
s'ch nunmehr auch sekundäre Amine mit Oxctanen in technisch und wirtschaftlich befriedigender Weise
umsetzen. Weiterhin sind durch das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren eine Reihe neuer, technisch interessanter
Verbindungen zugänglich geworden.
Geeignete Katalysatoren sind beispielsweise:
Fluorwasserstoff.
Natriumdihydrogenphosphat.
Kaliumdihydrogenphosphat.
Essigsäure.
Acrylsäure.
Adipinsäure.
Benzoesäure.
p-Aminobenz.olsulfonsäurc.
Sulfanilsäure.
Monochloressigsäure.

Kohlendioxid und Salze der Kohlensäure sowie Essigsäure und Ameisensäure.
Sauren, welche im Reaktionsmedium in erster Stufe Katalysatoren mit pKs-Werten zwischen 2.7 und 7.5
js bilden, wie Maleinsäure. Oxalsäure, phosphorige
Säuren. Phosphorsäure oder schweflige Säure, können selbstverständlich ebenfalls verwendet werden.
Selbstverständlich können auch Salze schwacher Säuren mit schwachen Basen, weiche unter den Reaktionsbedingungen
im Gleichgewicht mit den sie bildenden Säuren stehen, verwendet werden, beispielsweise
Ammoniumcarbonat. Ammoniumcarbaminat. Dimcthylammoniumcarbonat. Diäthylammoniumcarbonat.
Morpholiniumcarbonat, Piperidiniumacetat
4s oder Dimethylammoniumacetat.
Hieraus folgt, daß auch die Umsetzung von Oxetanen
mit technischen, insbesondere wäßrigen Aminlösungen. welche im allgemeinen 0,5 bis 2%Kohlendioxid
aus der Luft in Salzform gebunden enthalten,
so im Bereich der Erfindung liegt. Dies gilt besonders für
technische wäßrige Lösungen von Dimethylamin. Die Katalysatoren können homogen im Reaktionsgemisch gelf,.,. sein, sie können jedoch auch auf
Trägern adsorbiert sein. Letztgenannter Fall ist bei-
S5 spielsweisc bei Durchführung der Reaktion in der
Gasphase verwirklicht.
Auch saure Ionenaustauscher können als Katalysatoren Anwendung finden. Die Menge der eingesetzten
Katalysatoren beträgt im allgemeinen 0,01
f,o bis 0.2 VaI (Säureaquivalente) pro Mol Oxetan. Bei
Verwendung schwach basischer, besonders reaktionsträger Amine oder sehr schwacher Säuren (Kohlendioxid)
kann die Katalysatormenge aber auch höher liegen.
6s Die Durchführung des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens
erfolgt in flüssiger Phase bei 150 bis 250" C unter Druck, wobei Reaktionszeiten zwischen etwa

peraturcn bewirken zwar höheren Umsatz, erniedrigen
jedoch im allgemeinen die Ausbeute durch Nebenreaktionen. Für die kontinuierliche Durchführung der
Reaktion empfiehlt sich die Verwendung eines Reaktors, der die erforderlichen Verweilzeiten ermöglicht.
Während die Umsetzung mit stark basischen und sterisch wenig gehinderten Aminen in Gegenwart
der erfindungsgemäßen Katalysatoren befriedigend verläuft, sind zur Umsetzung von Aminen mit längeren
Alkylrestcn, z. B. bereits von Dipropylamin Temperaturen über 200 C bis ungefähr 25OC zweckmäßig.
Die Bildung von heterocyclischen Nebenprodukten wird durch den erfindungsgemäßen Kalalysatorzusatz
weitgehend unterdrückt.
Wenig flüchtige Amine wie Methyl-stearyl-amin
oder Hydroxyalkylarnine können auch drucklos lösungsmittclfrci
oder in höhersiedenden polaren Lösungsmitteln, die auch Wasser enthalten können, umgesetzt
werden.
Die nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren erhältlichen Verbindungen entsprechen der allgemeinen
Formel

116 g (1 Mol) 3-Äthyl-3-hydroxymethyl-oxetan und
180 g (2MoI) einer 50%igen Lösung von Dimethylamin
in Wasser werden nach Zusatz von 5 g festem Kohlendioxid im Druckgefäß 16 Stunden auf I8O'JC
erhitzt. Nach Abkühlung wird das brüunlichgefärbte Rohmaterial (280 g) bei 900C von Wasser und überschüssigem
Amin befreit. Der Rückstand enthält 97% 2-Äthyl-2-dimethylaminomcthyl- 1,3-propandiol
und ist für manche Zwecke bereits von ausreichender Reinheit.
Destillation über ein Kolonne liefert bei 122 bis 124r C 0,9 Torr das völlig färb- und geruchlose Aminodiol,/if
= 1,4655. Auf Grund gaschromatographischer Analyse ist das Produkt zu 100% einheitlich.
Der Vorlauf enthält <0,3% des Ausgangsoxetans und etwa 2% 3,5-Diäthylpyridin (jeweils bezogen
auf unfraktioniertes Produkt).
2-Äthyl-2-dimethylaminomethyl- i,3-propandiol
verfärbt sich weder beim Erhitzen noch nach längerem Stehen im Licht, während vergleichsweise das bekannte
N - Methyl - N - bis(hydroxyäthylamin) im Licht und beim Erhitzen sich gelb und schließlich
braun verfärbt.

Von ganz besonderem Interesse sind die nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren hergestellten neuen Verbindungen
der Formel

in der R eine Methyl- oder eine Äthylgruppe ist.
Die nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren erhältlichen Verbindungen besitzen technisches Interesse
als licht- und wärmebeständige, farblose und nicht flüchtige basische Katalysatoren, als Hydraulikflüssigkeiten und Schmiermittel sowie als Baukompo-
nenten zur Herstellung von Polymeren der verschiedensten Art nach dem Polyadditions-, Polykondensations- oder Polymerisationsverfahren. Die Produkte
sind außerdem von Interesse als Zwischenprodukte für die Herstellung von Pflanzenschutzmitteln und
Schädlingsbekämpfungsmitteln. In Form ihrer Salze können sie auch als oberflächenaktive Substanzen.
Emulgatoren und Antistatika Verwendung finden.
Es wird wie im Beispiel 1 verfahren, jedoch unter Verwendung von nur 117 g (1,3 Mol) 50%iger Dimethylaminlösung
und 1 g Eisessig. Das von Wasser und Dimethylamin befreite Reaktionsprodukt enthält
5,4% des Ausgangsoxetans und 91% 2-Äthyl-2-dimethyl-aminomethyl-l,3-propandiol.
Es wird wie im Beispiel 1 verfahren, jedoch unter Verwendung einer technischen, zuvor der Luft ausgesetzten Dimethylaminlösung, welche dadurch etwa
1 % Dimethylamincarbonat enthielt. Zusätzlicher Katalysator wurde nicht zugesetzt. Das von Wasser
und Dimethylamin befreite Reaktionsprodukt enthält 4% des Ausgangsoxetans, 1% Diäthylpyridm
und 95% 2-Äthyl-2-dimethylaminomethyl-l,3-propandiol.
Durchführung wie im Beispiel 1 unter den in der Tabelle angegebenen Bedingungen:

Die Prozenlangaben sind Gewichtsprozente, bezogen auf Rohprodukt vor der Fraktionierung, und
wurden gaschromatographisch bestimmt.
104g 3-Äthy]-3-hydroxymethyl-oxetan (0.9 Mol). 80.5 g Diäthylamin (1,1 Mol). 50 g Wasser und 6 g
(1,0MoI) Eisessig werden 10 Stunden auf 180" C erhitzt.
Das erhaltene Reaktionsgemisch enthält 25,1% 2 - Äthyl - 2 - diäthylaminomethyl - 1,3 - propandiol
(^ 35% der Theorie).
Bei der Destillation über eine Kolonne geht das Aminodiol bei einem Druck von 0.1 Torr von 115 bis
118 C über, nf: 1,4688. Farblose und geruchlose
Flüssigkeit.
580g (5MoI) 3-Äthyl-3-hydroxymethyI-oxetan
und 575 g 50% wäßrige Dimethylaminlösung werden im Autoklav auf 250° C erhitzt und dann ein Gemisch
aus 100 g wäßriger Dimethylaminlösung (50%) und 35,3 g Orthophosphorsäure (85%) innerhalb von
10 Minuten zugepumpt. Man hält das Reaktionsgemisch 10 Stunden auf 250° C.
1185g des erhaltenen zweiphasigen Reaktionsgemisches
wenden bei 150° C der Wasserdampfdestilla
tion unterworfen. Man erhält 140,5 g einer schwachgelblich gefärbten Flüssigkeit, die 29,5 g (9,4% der
Theorie) Diäthylpyridin und 90 g eines aliphatischen Amins enthält.
Der Rückstand der Wasserdampfdestillation ist gaschromatographisch einheitlich.
Ausbeute 439 g (59,59% der Theorie) 2-Äthyl-2-dimethylaminomethyl-1,3-propandiol.
Vergleichsversuch
Führt man denselben Versuch ohne Katalysator durch, so beträgt die Ausbeute nur 41% der Theorie
2-Ä'thyl-2-dimethylaminomethyl-l, 3-propandiol. Die Ausbeute an 3,5-Diäthylpyridin beträgt 16% der
Theorie.

Es wurde wie im Beispiel 9 gearbeitet unter Verwendung verschiedener Katalysatoren. Die prozentualen
Gewichtsanteile an 3-Äthyl-3-hydroxymethyloxeton und an 2-Äthyl-2-diäthylaminomethyl-l,3-propandiol
im rohw'n Endprodukt wurden gaschromatographisch bestimmt.
