Knochen, saugen sich voll von dem Lösungsmittel. Sobald die gewünschte Menge des Lösungsmittels eingelaufen ist, setzt man die Luftpumpe wieder in Gang. Durch das erzeugte Vacuum wird der Siedepunkt des Lösungsmittels verringert und der ganze Raum des Gefafses füllt sich mit Dämpfen desselben. Nachdem die Dämpfe einige Zeit: gewirkt halten, hebt man durch Zulassen von Luft das Vacuum wieder auf, wodurch das Lösungsmittel aus dem dampfförmigen in den flüssigen Zustand übergeführt wird und hierbei das Fett auflöst. !Die Fettlösung sammelt sich im unteren Räume des Gefäfses an.
