Description

Sheathed electrode for the production of connection and build-up welds on cast iron, especially on spheroidal cast iron For the cold welding of cast iron, electrodes made of alloys are usually used, which essentially consist of iron and nickel, these alloys e.g. from 40 - 60 g & Fe and 60. -; 40% CoN included. The electrodes made of such alloys are provided with a basic-reacting coating which, in addition to basic components, can contain graphite and additions of metal powder. As a result of the high electrical resistance of these iron-nickel alloys, welding them is difficult because they glow very quickly, so that only short pieces can be welded. The quality of the visual welds does not always correspond to that either. The requirements set, in particular when welded on cast iron or nodular cast iron, arise martensitic and thus brittle transition zones: The behavior of such clad electrodes during welding is also generally undesirable According to the present invention, the existing difficulties can be reduced or eliminated with the help of a jacket electrode, the Kwrn does not consist of an iron-nickel alloy, but rather of pure nickel, which is in a. ": Isenröhrchen Nickel and hisenmeztgen to be used, ie the amount of the nichel core wire and the amount of iron required for the iron tube are coordinated so that the desired alloy, e.g. an alloy with 40% Fe and 60% Ni, is in the weld metal. The iron tube, in which the nickel-leg core is located, is provided with a sheathing which, in addition to fluorspar, alkaline earth metal carbonates and graphite, contains additions of metal powder and ferro-alloy powder. When welding clad electrodes according to the invention, there are a number of advantages compared to welding of previously common electrodes A battered electrode has the high electrical resistance of iron-nickel alloys and can therefore be welded in any length and with a considerably higher current load without excessive heating. Furthermore, four drop transition is not coarse but fine. The martensitic transition zone, which is naturally unavoidable even when using the recommended electrode, occurs as a result of the comparatively greater heat input with a relatively low hardness, so that it is relatively harmless. For example, when welding with conventional electrodes, hardnesses of about 700 were found in the transition zone, and when welding with electrodes according to the invention, hardnesses of about 350 Brinel units were found.
