Description
B. beschrieben in H.D.Russell, B. C.Yackei & G.S.Bruce, Photographic Science and Technical Journal 1950 (August), S. 59 - 62 sowie in den US-PS 26 14 927 und 2448 857.So-called stabilization processes are known with which rapid treatment of photographic recording materials is possible Silver images can be produced without the need for the conventional fixing and washing baths. This is done in the usual way, then treated with the solution of a stabilizer such as ammonium thiocyanate, and immediately then dried without previous washing. The usual fixation treatment is not required, saving time. Various such rapid treatment methods are e.g. B. described in H.D. Russell, B. C. Yackei & G.S.Bruce, Photographic Science and Technical Journal 1950 (August), Pp. 59-62 and in U.S. Patents 2,614,927 and 2,448,857.
In these rapid treatment processes, a compound is used as a stabilizing agent, the S- or contains SH groups, e.g. B. alkali or ammonium thiocyanate, alkali or ammonium thiosulfate, Thiourea or thioglycol. These stabilizers allow rapid treatment, however the copies show defects in quality.
In order to ensure the lightfastness of the copies, the stabilizer must be used in a considerable amount Use excess over the theoretically calculated amount. This prevents the hygroscopicity of the Stabilizer completely dries the copy and the surface becomes sticky. As the stabilizer gradually oxidizes metallic silver to a complex salt, the image density decreases or disappears and the color changes from black to brown or yellow. These fading phenomena occur especially when the copies are stored in a higher humidity environment. When the copy to the light is exposed, at a time when the reaction between the undeveloped halogen silver and the Stabilizing agent has not yet ended, photodecomposition of the unstabilized halogen silver takes place and spots appear in the white and transparent areas.
Sie konnte bei den mittels bekannten Schnellbehand-The invention was based on the object to remedy this deficiency in the rapid treatment and the Improve copy quality. Furthermore, the salt concentration in the treated photosensitive Layer reduced and the achievement of the so-called high-gloss drying made possible. The invention relates to a process for stabilizing developed photographic silver halide copies, where thiocyanate is used as a stabilizer and the photographic recording material is treated in two separate baths after development, which is characterized in that the photographic recording material after development at least 10 seconds, at most 1 minute, in a first stabilizing bath, which contains ammonium and / or alkali thiocyanate in the usual concentration, is treated and then 1 to 10 minutes in one second stabilizing bath is immersed, at least that. one of said stabilizers in an amount from 1 to 15% by weight, i.e. H. in a lower concentration than the first stabilizing bath, and then is dried.
Es werden also nacheinander zwei Stabilisierbäder angewendet, die beide das gleiche Stabilisiermittel, jedoch im zweiten Bad in niedriger KonzentrationTwo stabilizing baths are used one after the other, both of which contain the same stabilizing agent, but in the second bath in a low concentration

Wenn die Konzentration im zweiten Bad niedrigerIf the concentration in the second bath is lower

Wenn die Konzentration über 15% liegt, wird die Menge der Thiocyanate in der fotografischen Schicht zu einem unnötigen Überschuß erhöht und das metallische Silber im Bild wird leicht angegriffen.- than 1%, the thiocyanates flow out of the photographic Layer off and the stabilization is insufficient. If the concentration is above 15%, the amount of thiocyanates in the photographic layer is increased to an unnecessary excess and the metallic silver in the picture is easily attacked.
Development and stabilization within a minute at the latest, usually in less than 10 seconds be terminated. Therefore the concentration of the stabilizer is made as high as possible. Almost all stabilizers have an extremely high solubility. Due to the high stabilization speed required high concentration, a high one was obtained in the photographic layer Salt density, which increases the hygroscopic properties, makes the layer sticky or stained and causes image fading.
As a countermeasure, it is known to add noble metal salts and organomercapto compounds, thiosulfates to be used together with thiocyanates (US-PS 31 32 943) and alkali or ammonium sulfites, -to add bisulfites or metabisulfites. These measures can reduce the loss of the silver image and the discoloration of the white and the transparent parts can be reduced, but the effect is not completely and the stickiness of the surface is hardly reduced.
By the method known from FR-PS 11 87 170 the tackiness of the surface of the damp copy is reduced by creating a transparent skin on the surface of a polymer

Zum Nachweis sind im Beispiel 8 Vergleichsversuche aufgeführt.now leads to a much better reduction in tack and also to a superiority in High-gloss drying and better lightfastness. 8 comparative tests are used as evidence in the example listed.
In the method of the invention, the total treatment time is the immersion time in the second bath is increased, but the stickiness of the surface is increased almost completely eliminated and you get the same surface properties as with the normal ones Fixing and washing treatments (30 to 60 minutes) can be achieved. The copies can therefore be made with warm Metal plates are dried to a high gloss and retain their shine even after this treatment long time. By adding an optical brightener or a noble metal salt, an organomercapto compound or of thiosulfate in the second stabilizing bath used according to the invention Shrinkage of the silver image and the degree of whiteness can be further improved.
In the drawings are the spectral reflection curves for the double stabilized according to the invention Copy (curve II) and for a copy treated only in the first stabilizing bath (curve I). F i g. 1 shows the spectral reflection immediately after the high-gloss drying. Except in the area of 400 ηΐμ there is not much difference between curves II and I. Fig. 2 shows the spectral reflection after which the copies were exposed to daylight for 24 hours. The deterioration in whiteness (yellowing) is not significant according to curve II in the copy treated according to the invention, while curve I indicates severe deterioration. Since the curve does not reflect the effect of the optical brightener, the actual degree of whiteness is the Copy II even better than it can be seen from curve II.
