Description
Process for the continuous dyeing of tow made from polyacrylonitrile fibers As is well known, the endless synthetic fibers emerging from the spinneret become what are known as Cord united.
SVF-Fachorgan, 12, S.358 [1957]).So far, polyacrylonitrile tows were in steel baskets or as so-called Wraps that are placed on spindles are colored. In both cases it is relatively cumbersome and not very efficient procedures (see SVF specialist body, 12, p.358 [1957]).
It has now been found that you can tow made of polyacrylonitrile or from copolymers with a predominant proportion of acrylonitrile with water-soluble ones basic dyes or disperse dyes can dye continuously, though the material in a padder with a solution or suspension of a dye, has an affinity for polyacrylonitrile. impregnated and the impregnated material immediately followed by continuous steaming at 105 to 140 ° C with practical saturated water vapor in one described in Swiss patent 333 467 Pressure vessel with seal by pairs of nip rollers and subjected to the colored Soap tow if necessary.
The dyes are expediently impregnated by padding, d. i.e., the tow to be dyed are passed through a padder and as usual squeezed off, expediently so that the impregnated goods are 0.5 to 1.3 parts of their initial weight retains dye solution. The same dyes are used as they according to the previously customary processes for dyeing polyacrylonitrile fibers are common, so on the one hand basic dyes such as triphenylmethane dyes, Oxazine dyes, methine dyes and azo or anthraquinone dyes containing tertiary or quaternary amino groups or, on the other hand, disperse dyes. It it is generally advisable to use dye concentrations of 10 to 50 g per liter Use dye liquid and keep the dye bath slightly acidic. this will expediently achieved by adding acetic acid. The temperature of the log bath is not critical in itself. However, there are relatively concentrated dye solutions are used, it is expediently at least 40 ° C to avoid any precipitation to prevent the dye.
The fixation of the dyes on the so impregnated with dye solution Goods are expediently done by steaming, preferably at temperatures above 100 ° C.
The heat treatment takes place in the pressure vessel described in Swiss Patent 333 467, in which the material is treated under excess pressure, for example with saturated steam. In order to enable continuous operation and at the same time to maintain the overpressure in the container, liquid-free pressure sealing devices are attached to the entry and exit points of the tow. These devices each have two rollers rotatably mounted on the container housing, between which the web of material is guided under resilient clamping pressure. Particularly suitable have proven to be pressure vessels, the vapor closure of which takes place via two pairs of rollers made of different materials, the tow being touched by only one pair of rollers. Since the speed at which the dyes are fixed depends on the temperature inside the pressure vessel, temperatures above 100.degree. C., for example between 100 and 150.degree. C., are expediently used. In the case of most dyes, at temperatures between 105 ° and 110 ° C. or optionally up to 120 ° C., fixation is so rapid that the tow time through the pressure vessel is only about 1 to 2 minutes.
The present process gives strong and pure colorations. surprising is that even in spite of the short lead time Coloring even thick tows.
If desired, the colored tow can also be subjected to aftertreatment. In order to remove unfixed dye, they are expediently soaped off, ie treated with a 60 to 90 ° C solution containing soap or a nonionic synthetic detergent.
In the following examples, unless otherwise stated, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight, and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius. Example 1 30 parts of the dye of the formula are made into a paste with 30 parts of 40 ″ acetic acid and diluted to 1000 parts with boiling water. A tow made of polyacrylonitrile is padded with this solution with a squeeze effect of 100 ″ and then passed through a pressure vessel, as in the Swiss Patent specification 333 467 is described, whose entry and exit points each have two rollers rotatably mounted on the container housing, between which the tow is guided under resilient clamping pressure and its rollers through plates arranged on the housing and on the inside against the roller shells Pressure-bearing elements attached to the housing are sealed. The throughput speed is regulated in such a way that the best possible fixation of the dye on the fiber is achieved. In the present case, the tow time is approximately 1 minute. The tow leaving the pressure vessel through the exit rollers shows a pure and strong blue color of remarkable levelness. To remove unfixed dye, the tow is passed through a 90 ° C warm solution which contains 1 part of a 30 ";) strength aqueous solution of the adduct of 15 moles of ethylene oxide and 1 mole of cetyl alcohol in 1000 parts of water.
