In Schaufenstern und an manchen anderen Orten macht sich oft der aus der oberen Oeffnung der Gas- oder Petroleum-Lampencylinder austretende Rufs in unangenehmer Weise geltend, und es ist auch mit der nach oben ausströmenden Hitze häufig Feuersgefahr verbunden. Es werden deshalb den Lampencylindern in einiger Entfernung von der Mündung Kappen aus Marienglas aufgesetzt, die aber, weil sie lose aufsitzen, häufig verloren gehen oder auch aus Unachtsamkeit nicht an ihren Ort gebracht werden.
