Description
K i r k - O t h m e r, Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology, The Interscience Encyclopedia, Inc., New York [1951], Bd. 6, S. 776 und 777).Foam suppressants When using detergents and cleaning agents from anion-active, cation-active or non-ionic compounds or from mixtures Of these, the annoying side effect is very often excessive foaming on. Several products, also in combination, were recommended to dampen the foam, such as medium to higher alcohols, esters of phosphoric acid, salts of higher fatty acids or silicones (see K i r k - O t h m e r, Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology, The Interscience Encyclopedia, Inc., New York [1951], Vol. 6, pp. 776 and 777).
However, the use of these products is not always possible, because some of them are too volatile, have an unpleasant odor or, like soaps, through the formation of electroneutral compounds (cf.L i n d n e r, Textile auxiliaries and washing raw materials, Wissenschaftl. Verlagsges. m.b.H., Stuttgart [1954], p.555) become ineffective with cationic cleaning agents. Also your foam-suppressing Effect is not always satisfactory.
It has now been found that neutral carbonic acid esters of the general formula I are excellent as foam suppressants can be used in which the radicals R 'and R "are identical or different, straight-chain and / or branched, saturated and / or unsaturated, optionally interrupted by oxygen bridges, alkyl groups each having 4 to 22 carbon atoms.
These carbonic acid esters have compared to the known foam suppressors the advantage that it is almost odorless and practically non-volatile when used and at the same time show an improved foam-suppressing effect. As D; alkyl carbonates of the general formula I, in which those from 4 to 22, preferably 6 to 18 carbon atoms existing alkyl groups R 'and R "straight-chain, branched, saturated, unsaturated and may optionally be interrupted by oxygen, z. B. into consideration Isobutyl-2-ethylhexyl carbonate, n-butyl-trimethylnonyl carbonate, (2-ethylhexyl) - ethylene glycol mono-n-dodecyl ether) carbonate, (Diisobutylmethyl) - (diethylene glycol mono n hexadecyl ether) carbonate, (diisobutylmethyl) (diethylene glycol mono n octadecyl ether) carbonate, Methylpentyl trimethyl nonyl carbonate, (2-ethylhexyl) - (diethylene glycol iso-tridecyl ether) carbonate, Oleyl-2-ethylhexyl carbonate and in particular di-2-ethylhexyl carbonate, 2-ethylhexyldiisobutylmethyl carbonate and 2-ethylhexyl trimethyl nonyl carbonate.
B. in H o u b e n - W e y 1, Methoden der organischen Chemie, O. Thieme Verlag, Stuttgart, Bd. 8, S. 106 (4. Auflage 1952), beschrieben sind.The esters of carbonic acid can be prepared by known processes as they are z. B. in H o u b e n - W e y 1, Methods of Organic Chemistry, O. Thieme Verlag, Stuttgart, Vol. 8, p. 106 (4th edition 1952).
L i n d n e r, Textilhilfsmittel und Waschrohstoffe, Wissenschftl. Verlagsges. m1.11., Stuttgart [1954]), oder Gemische aus diesen enthalten. The possibility of using the carbonic acid esters which can be used according to the invention extends to foaming systems that are anionic, cationic or nonionic surface-active compounds (see L i n d n e r, textile auxiliaries and detergent raw materials, Scientific Verlagsges. m1.11., Stuttgart [1954]), or mixtures of these.
When used, the carbonic acid esters are used in amounts of 0.05 to 20 ° / a, preferably 0.5 to 5%, based on the surface-active substance acidic, neutral or up to soda-alkaline liquors directly or in the form of a solution or emulsion added. The addition, which is possible continuously or intermittently, can from the start, d. H. before using the liquors, in order to prevent foaming, or only when foam formation is to be eliminated. The dialkyl carbonates or mixtures of them can also be used with other substances, e.g. B. with surface-active compounds are mixed. she can in practice z. B. can be used as an additive to household detergents, Metal auxiliaries or wetting agents such as dodecylbenzenesulfonate, in dyeing processes, where heavy foaming is a nuisance, in the construction industry, at Heat, Distillation or chemical conversion of compounds which tend to foam, and especially with cationic cleaning agents and disinfectants like them z. B. in the food industry for machine washing and disinfection used by bottles and jugs.
Die Überlegenheit der erfindungsgemäß als Schaumdämpfer verwendeten
