Process for the preparation of paraffin emulsions Upon exposure
from sulfur dioxide and chlorine to paraffins of natural or synthetic origin
sulfochlorides are formed which, after saponification, form the corresponding sulfonic acids
result. These have surface-active properties. For use in the
Technology has proven to be advantageous, the starting hydrocarbons not
to sulfochlorinate completely, but part of the paraffins as such in the reaction mixture
to obtain. Here, after the saponification of the sulfochlorides, paraffin emulsions become
obtained with advantage in a wide variety of manufacturing processes in the textile,
Leather and paper industries can be used. Such paraffin emulsions
can, for example, according to the method of US Pat. No. 2,334,764 or according to
the process of the German patent application F 12340 IVc / 8 k.
In the known processes one has the hydrocarbon mixtures,
as they are in the starting material, subjected as such to sulfochlorination.
In this procedure, however, only either coarsely disperse emulsions are obtained
or even with finer distribution of the paraffin products that after some
Cream time and show deposits of oil.
Sulfochloride gemeinsam verseift. It has now been found that paraffin emulsions can be obtained from paraffins
through simultaneous action of chlorine and sulfur dioxide and saponification of the resulting
Reaction products can be produced by using paraffinic hydrocarbons with boiling temperatures
from about 300 to 650 "C, separated according to boiling range, which is subjected to sulfochlorination,
wherein the lower, in the range of about 300 to 360 "C boiling hydrocarbon reaction
to a lesser extent, up to about 15 to 30 mole percent, is sulfochlorinated than that
higher, in the range of about 350 to 6500 C boiling hydrocarbon fraction, the
is sulfochlorinated up to a proportion of about 50 to 80 mole percent, and the obtained
Sulphochloride saponified together.
vornehmen. The paraffins that come into consideration as starting material are made by
Hydrogenation of carbon monoxide obtained by Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. you will be
in a manner known per se in tine higher-boiling fraction and one lower-boiling fraction
Fraction dismantled. Of course, you can split it up into several fractions
make.
However, it is generally sufficient for use with two fractions
to work, the higher-boiling portion having a boiling range of about 350 to
650 "C and the lower-boiling portion have a boiling range of about 300 to 3600 C.
target. The higher-boiling part, which contains on average about 30 to 35 carbon atoms,
has a molecular weight of about 400 to 500, while the lower boiling point
Portion has an average molecular weight of about 350. The heavier one
Proportion is also to a greater extent according to the method of the present invention,
usually about 50 to 800/0, sulfochlorinated, while the lower-boiling portion
to a lesser extent, usually about 15 to 300 / o, is sulfochlorinated.
The sulfochlorination of the different boiling fractions is separated
in a manner known per se with exposure or in the presence of radially forming
Fabrics made. The saponification of the sulfochlorides obtained then takes place together,
whereby the mixing ratio of the sulfochlorination products can change. Usually
However, the sulfochlorides will be used in a ratio of about 1: 1. At the saponification
with basic compounds you get thick white pastes made of paraffin,
Paraffin sulfonates, salt and water consist.
The solubility of the pastes obtained in this way is extremely good.
This results in highly dispersed paraffin emulsions that are different from the saponification products
the components alone have a significantly greater stability. So they result
Saponification products of the components are milky emulsions, but they are even with
the lower-boiling paraffin content with its low sulfochlorination
Degree
cream after some time with separation of oil. The solubility improvement of the
Saponification mixtures of the present invention are extremely surprising.
As a result of the fine distribution of the paraffin, the emulsions result when they are used
an excellent softening effect on textiles. They also point to leather
a better greasy and an increased water-repellent effect compared to the known
Paraffin emulsions. Because of their fine distribution, the emulsions obtained are
also much more extensive.
