Description
Process for the manufacture of sulphochlorination products It is known, paraffinic hydrocarbons alone or in a mixture with one another by treatment with sulfur dioxide and chlorine under the action of visible light and using various catalysts to convert them into the corresponding sulfochlorides and to obtain capillary-active products by saponifying them.
It is also known, paraffinic hydrocarbons or their Treat mixtures with sulfuryl chloride under similar conditions. To this Way, the corresponding sulfochlorides are also obtained, but the The yield of sulfochlorination products is lower than when using sulfur dioxide and chlorine, and the use of sulfuryl chloride for the stated purpose appears because of the high production costs so far as not very economical.
According to the information in the various literature sources are so far especially paraffinic hydrocarbons without any particular difficulties in sulfochlorination accessible by means of sulfur dioxide and chlorine, and neither the chain length nor a Branching the chain is critical in this implementation. It it was recognized that the sulfochlorination of these hydrocarbons by means of sulfur dioxide and chlorine has always been possible up to now under the influence of light and suitable catalysts was, while the same reaction with sulfuryl chloride not always recognized as possible became. This fact conveyed the knowledge that sulfochlorination is more paraffinic Hydrocarbons with sulfuryl chloride could not be carried out in all cases, while a such by the simultaneous use of sulfur dioxide and chlorine, it is quite possible could be. On the other hand, it has hitherto seemed impossible that if the sulfochlorination paraffinic hydrocarbons by sulfur dioxide and chlorine not the desired The result was that these hydrocarbons could be reacted with sulfuryl chloride especially if the conversion of higher molecular weight hydrocarbons, like slack wax, should be made. As particularly expedient and the Implementation is still variously due to the use of larger amounts of solvent pointed out for the hydrocarbons.
It has now been found that brown coal tar is obtained Slack wax that cannot be treated with sulfur dioxide and chlorine without pretreatment can be sulfochlorinated, but can still produce sulfochlorinated products if one the slack without the use of solvents with sulfuryl chloride in amounts of 20 ° / o and above, based on the paraffin used.
B. Anilin, Cyclohexylamin, Pyridin, Chinolin, Triäthanolamin, Alkylaminen u. ä.The wax slack is in a manner known per se by high pressure hydrogenation obtained from brown coal tar. The sulfochlorination of the at about 30 to 50 ° Melting hydrocarbon mixture happens under exposure to visible Light in the presence of nitrogenous base compounds, e.g. B. aniline, cyclohexylamine, Pyridine, quinoline, triethanolamine, alkylamines and the like
The reaction takes place at about 5o to 7o °, preferably at 65 °, and proceeds in the desired manner with good yields, even without the presence of more indifferent ones Solvent. Depending on the amount used, sulfuryl chloride is obtained after saponification the sulfonic acid chlorides to form emulsions distributable to clear water-soluble products. They are not surface-active to the same extent as the known saponified sulfochlorination products; on the other hand, they have considerable oil solubility and can be used with advantage as Find emulsifiers for oils, fats and especially for mineral oils use. It very durable, milk-like emulsions can be produced, which can be used as Avivage, leather fatliquor and as a preparation agent for rayon and rayon are particularly suitable. -You have it completely in your hand, depending on the applied Amount of sulfuryl chloride, the agents mentioned directly from the paraffin mixtures to produce more or less intensive sulfochlorination or the sulfochlorination until the saponification products are completely soluble in water and the end product Depending on the intended use of the desired agent, the appropriate oils, fats, Add mineral oils etc.
By reducing the sulfonic acid chlorides, e.g. B. by stirring in aqueous sodium sulfite solutions, maintaining the alkaline reaction with sodium hydroxide solution and separation by means of mineral acids, sulfamic acids and their neutralization products are obtained On its own or together with suitable fats and oils, also for post-treatment rayon and rayon can be used to advantage.
Example i 500 kg of a paraffin mixture which was obtained by hydrogenating lignite tar after separating off the low-boiling components up to about 300 ° are slowly admixed with 125 kg of sulfuryl chloride at 60 °. The reaction mixture is brightly illuminated with tungsten lamps, and 12 kg of cyclohexylamine are added while the sulfuryl chloride is entering. The sulfonic acid chloride freed from the excess sulfuryl chloride and hydrochloric acid has a saponification number of 115 and contains 6.7% total chlorine, of which 3.6 % can be saponified.
Es enthält 8,4 % Gesamtchlor und 4,8 °/o verseifbares Chlor.EXAMPLE 2 1,000 kg of brown coal tar slack of a composition similar to that in Example i are reacted with 400 kg of sulfuryl chloride at 65 ° and with vigorous light exposure. The catalyst used is 40 kg of pyridine bases, which are added to the reaction mixture at the same time as the sulfuryl chloride. The sulfochloride obtained after the excess sulfuryl chloride has been distilled off and the hydrochloric acid removed has a saponification number of 150. It contains 8.4 % total chlorine and 4.8% saponifiable chlorine.
Example 3 A hydrogenated brown tar slack is made with 50% sulfuryl chloride in the presence of 100% triethanolamine, calculated on the sulfuryl chloride, at 60 ° and vigorous irradiation sulfochlorinated. It becomes a sulfo chloride with a saponification number received from 172. Of the total chlorine of 10.2% found, 5.5% can be saponified.
A from lignite tar obtained mixture is paraffin / sulphochlorinated with ioo ° / o of sulfuryl chloride with the addition of 1 0 dibutylamine at 6o °. The sulfochlorination product has a saponification number of 273 and contains 8.6% saponifiable chlorine with a total chlorine content of 14.2%.
