Process for the production of low molecular weight saturated fatty acid chlorides
As is known, chlorides of organic acids can be prepared by various processes
produce. How to win them z. B. from the free acids by reaction with phosphorus halides,
Sulfuryl halides, phosgene, or by similar processes derived from the corresponding
Acid anhydrides or the salts of the acids run out. There are also special processes
known, such as the reaction of ketene with chlorine to produce acetyl chloride
and chloroacetyl chloride. In these processes, however, either the yields are unsatisfactory,
or they require high temperatures hzw for their implementation. Pressures and catalysts,
or the end products are contaminated with other substances.
The present invention is a method according to which
Acid chlorides of low molecular weight saturated fatty acids in a very simple manner and
can be produced with high purity.
It has been found that when chlorosulfonic acid is added to the anhydrides
Such fatty acids like the easily accessible acetic anhydride, propionic anhydride
and butyric anhydride, which reacts immediately at normal temperature
the fatty acid chloride and the corresponding acylsulfuric acid in 1000 / oiger
Form yield when the fatty acid chloride is continuously removed from the reaction mixture
will. This is done in a simple manner by distilling off under normal pressure or
even at reduced pressure. The acid chloride is expediently separated off
continuously according to the addition of chlorosulfonic acid, pressure and temperature
depend on the type of acid chloride. Which stood as a residue in the distillation
remaining Acvlsulfuric acid can in the form of its salt in a known manner
Heating is converted back into the acid anhydride and can be used again.
Example 1 In a plant with dropping funnel, mechanical stirrer and
1.5 kg of acetic anhydride are added to the 3 l three-necked flask fitted with a discharge pipe
and 1.16 kg of chlorosulfonic acid were rapidly added dropwise with stirring at normal temperature.
The acetyl chloride formed is simultaneously applied by applying a vacuum of about 12 mm
distilled through the discharge pipe into a cooled receiver. This will be 0.75
kg of acetyl chloride (960/0 yield, based on chlorosulfonic acid, about 50%, calculated
on the anhydride).
gesetzt. Es werden 0,46 kg Propionylchlorid (99°/o
Ausbeute, bezogen auf Chlorsulfonsäure, etwa 50<)/o, berechnet auf Anhydrid)
vom Kp. =800 C erhalten. Example 2 1.16 kg of propionic anhydride are used in the same apparatus
with 0.58 kg of chlorosulphonic acid
set. There are 0.46 kg of propionyl chloride (99%
Yield, based on chlorosulfonic acid, about 50 <) / o, calculated on anhydride)
of b.p. = 800 C.
= 1020 C erhalten. Example 3 1.35 kg of butyric anhydride are used in the same apparatus
reacted with 0.58 kg of chlorosulfonic acid. 0.52 kg of butryl chloride (970/0
Yield, based on chlorosulfonic acid, about 50%. based on anhydride) of bp.
= 1020 C obtained.
