Technical background

In the manufacture of shoes, it is currently particularly popular to have “sock-fit” footwear. That is, there is no separate tongue construction in the upper over the wearer's instep. Shoes of this type are put on and taken off similarly to a sock, which enables a high level of comfort due to the adaptation of the soft textile material to the foot. This is only practical if the material of the shoe upper allows a certain amount of stretching so that the user can pull it over his foot and still has a certain amount of compression to support it during use.

In particular in the case of trail running, hiking, climbing or mountain shoes, it is also desirable that the shoes are waterproof. This can be achieved by coatings on the outside of the shoe upper material. Alternatively, this can be achieved with waterproof lining materials positioned on the inside of the shoe upper material. The advantage of a waterproof lining is that it will experience less abrasion over time during use and is therefore less likely to be damaged.

An example of a shoe with a waterproof lining is the prior art document US 2008/0016717 A1 , which relates to a shoe product including an outsole on which an outer shoe upper is mounted, the shoe upper including a plurality of parts which are sewn together. The parts of the shoe upper are made of breathable, waterproof material. The shoe upper consists of a three-layer, laminated material that contains a breathable, waterproof membrane, which is arranged between an inner lining material and an outer shell material.

A disadvantage of this design is that the lining usually does not cover the entire surface of the foot. The lining may not reach the upper of the shoe as a padded material is used instead. The lining may not reach below the wearer's foot because the shoe upper is normally attached to a strobe board at the sides of the foot and does not extend over the strobe board. It would be advantageous to find a waterproof upper construction which on the one hand covers essentially the entire foot of the user without uncomfortable seams and on the other hand enables an inexpensive and simpler manufacture than circular-knitted waterproof sock constructions.

The problem on which the present invention is based is therefore to provide an improved shoe upper lining construction so that the above-described disadvantages of the prior art are at least partially overcome.

Summary of the invention

The above-mentioned problem is at least partially solved by the subject matter of the independent claims of the present invention. Exemplary embodiments of the invention are described in the dependent claims.

The present invention provides, in one embodiment, an upper comprising an upper liner, the upper liner comprising two edge portions.
