Nach erfolgter Zentrierung können das erste und das zweite Übertragungselement unter Einsatz der Verbindungsmittel zur Drehmomentübertragung miteinander verbunden werden. Bei einem gegenseitigen Versatz oder Schiefstand der Drehachsen A, B kann zwar im Betrieb der Anordnung durch den Lagerzapfen zunächst eine Kraft in die Lagerstelle des Lagerelements eingeleitet werden. Aufgrund der gegebenen Verschleißfähigkeit des im Bereich der Lagerstelle an dieser oder an dem Lagerzapfen angeordneten Zentrierelements kann dieses unter dem Einfluss der dort auftretenden Radialkräfte gezielt und innerhalb einer relativ kurzen Betriebsdauer verschleißen bis der Lagerbereich im Wesentlichen frei von unerwünschten Radialkräften ist. Unter einem Verschleiß soll dabei ein Materialabtrag oder eine Verformung des Zentrierelements verstanden werden, wobei eine im Einbauzustand des Zentrierelements zunächst vorliegende Ausgangsform verändert wird. Bei einem Materialabtrag kann sich das abgetragene Material an einer anderen Stelle ablagern, während bei einer Verformung keine unerwünschte Materialablagerung auftreten kann. Bei einer Materialverformung wird lediglich überschüssiges Material in kraftfreie Bereiche verdrängt. Der Verschleiß des Zentrierelements erfolgt also nicht wie sonst üblich unerwünscht, sondern vielmehr in einer vorbestimmten und damit gezielten Art und Weise.
