Die beiden Abstandssensoren sind derart ausgerichtet, dass ihr jeweiliger Erfassungsbereich den sogenannten toten Winkel des Zweirads überwachen kann, also die Bereiche seitlich hinter der Position des Fahrers, die vom Fahrer nur schwer oder gar nicht eingesehen werden können. Wenn beispielsweise die Abstandssensoren ein sich bewegendes Objekt innerhalb des toten Winkelbereichs detektieren und zusätzlich noch eine bevorstehende Bewegung des Zweirads in die entsprechende Richtung durch die Auswerteeinheit ermittelt wird, kann ein Warnsignal erzeugt werden, dass den Fahrer auf das Objekt im toten Winkel hinweist.
