Das Buch wird in diesem geöffneten Zustand mit locker nach unten hängenden Seiten mit den Saughebern entlang der Transportschiene weiter gefahren und gerät so in den Wirkungsbereich schmaler Bearbeitungsleisten, die abwechselnd mit konzentrierten Blasdüsen und mit Miniatur-Konzentratorlinsen für den Auslass von Glasfaserbündeln ausgerüstet sind, die keimtötendes UV-Licht abstrahlen. Die Blasdüsen können nur mit Druckluft beschickt sein, die das Auseinanderblättern der Buchseiten bewirkt, so dass das UV-Licht bis in die tiefe der Buchseite vordringen kann. Es ist aber auch möglich, hier desinfizierende Lösungen einzublasen und mit nachfolgenden Düsenreihen wieder zu trocknen. Dabei ist es vorteilhaft, vorgetrocknete Druckluft zu verwenden, es ist aber auch möglich, Heißdampf zur Trocknung einzusetzen. Am Ende der Transportschiene wird die rechte Saugdüse deaktiviert, so dass der linke Buchdeckel wieder senkrecht abfällt und beim Weitertransport über eine Rollenbahn zum Auslass hin gegen die herabhängenden Seiten in die Waagrechte gedrückt wird, so dass das Buch wieder geschlossen ist.
