Description
The present invention relates to a method for producing a decorative skin and a decorative skin produced by means of the method.
Decorative skins are used, for example, in the automotive industry to give interior trim parts of automobiles an attractive appearance, but also to adjust the haptic properties of such interior trim parts as desired. A so-called slush process is mainly used to produce such decorative skins, in which plastic powder is introduced into a mold and a film or skin of uniform thickness is produced by subsequent rotation of the mold. The disadvantage of using such a process is that the films or skins produced in this way have a relatively great thickness or a great density and thus also have an increased intrinsic weight.
The present invention is therefore based on the object of developing a method for producing a decorative skin which avoids the disadvantages mentioned, with which decorative skins can be produced with reduced thickness and / or density.
This object is achieved according to the invention by a method for producing a decorative skin according to
The proposed method for producing a decorative skin comprises several steps. First, a plastisol, which comprises a thermoplastic polymer and a blowing agent, is sprayed directly into a spray mold. This spray form is heated after the plastisol has been sprayed, the blowing agent expanding, the expanding blowing agent foaming the polymer during melting or gelling and a foamed decorative skin being produced by the foaming polymer. The foamed decorative skin is then removed from the spray mold.
The term “plastisol” is intended to include a liquid thermoplastic polymer to which a thinner in a concentration of between 9 percent by weight and 13 percent by weight is added and which has been liquefied as a result.
The use of a blowing agent added to the thermoplastic polymer allows a decorative skin to be produced in a simple manner even without rotating the mold. As a result, the operating times of apparatus required for production can be saved and the throughput is thus increased. In addition, a mold produced in this way has both a smaller thickness and, due to the foaming, a lower density than conventional slush skins. This leads to a significantly reduced weight of such skins compared to slush skins. By spraying the plastisol directly onto the spray mold, i. H. without additional skins or the like between the spray form and the plastisol, particularly good heat transfer from the spray form to the plastisol is achieved.
Advantageous further developments of the system are described in the subclaims.
The propellant concentration can be between 0.5 percent by weight to 2 percent by weight of the plastisol, preferably 1 percent by weight. In this way, sufficient foaming is achieved even if the addition of blowing agent is not too great.
The thermoplastic polymer preferably contains polyvinyl chloride. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a common material in the production of decorative skins and allows them to be manufactured inexpensively. Alternatively, olefin-based thermoplastic elastomers (TPO) can also be used.
The spray form is only heated after the plastisol has been introduced.
The spray mold can be heated to a temperature of between 200 ° C and 250 ° C. In this temperature range, common propellants expand, so that by heating the spray mold to these temperatures, the propellant of the plastisol expands and the foamed decorative skin is produced.
The propellant can comprise a salt which forms carbon dioxide when a temperature of 200 ° C. is exceeded. The salt preferably contains azodiformamide, 4,4'-oxybis (benzenesulfohydrazide) or sodium hydrogen carbonate. A reliable foaming reaction of the plastisol can be caused by the formation of carbon dioxide.
It can be provided that the polymer comprises pigments for coloring. In this way, a color of the decorative skin can be set in a simple manner during the manufacturing process, while at the same time the foaming process is not impaired. A pigment content can be between 5 Weight percent and 15 percent by weight of the plastisol mixed with the propellant, provided that an opaque coloring of the decorative skin is desired. If no opaque coloring, but only coloring, is desired, the pigment content can also be below 5 percent by weight.
The foamed decorative skin can have a thickness of between 0.5 mm and 1.2 mm. Such thicknesses can be achieved quickly through the foaming reaction, ensure the desired haptic properties of the decorative skin and are less than the thicknesses of slush skins produced using a slush process.
The density of the foamed decorative skin can be between 0.4 g / cm 3 and 1.2 g / cm 3 , preferably 0.8 g / cm 3 . Particularly light skins are therefore produced, which have a lower density than decorative skins produced by a conventional slush process.
The decorative skin can be removed from the spray mold at a demolding temperature of between 40.degree. C. to 60.degree. C., preferably 50.degree. If the decorative skin produced has fluctuations in its thickness, back-foaming with a semi-rigid foam comprising polyurethane can take place before it is removed from the spray mold. Although this increases the weight and production time of the decorative skin, it also increases the stability of the decorative skin at the same time.
In order to achieve a uniform thickness of the decorative skin, rotary sintering can be carried out after the spray mold has been heated, as long as the foaming process is not completed. As a result, the foaming polymer is distributed evenly by centrifugal forces. In this case, only a thin layer of the plastisol can preferably be sprayed in order to obtain a correspondingly thin decorative skin. A thickness of the plastisol layer can be between 150 μm and 250 μm, preferably 200 μm. A total thickness of the decorative skin produced in this way can be between 0.5 mm and 1.2 mm. For this purpose, the rotary sintering process can take place both with only a single layer applied to the spray mold and with several layers applied.
The plastisol can also contain other components such as solvents. As a result, the surface properties of the decorative skin can be adjusted in a targeted manner.
A proposed decorative skin is produced according to one of the aforementioned methods. Such decorative skins have a smaller thickness and / or a lower density, while the quality of the surface is sufficient for a decorative skin.
