Bei den Steckverbindungen sind die Federbälge mit Endwulsten versehen, die häufig mit darin eingebetteten formsteifen Kernringen ausgestattet sind. Bei Klemmverbindungen werden die schlauchartigen Enden der Federbälge in der Mehrzahl der Fälle durch Klemmringe an entsprechenden Beschlagteilen der Luftfeder festgeklemmt. Die Enden des Federbalgs werden zwischen dem Klemmring und dem in dem Beschlagteil ausgeformten Klemmsitz durch mechanische Verformung des Klemmrings verpresst. es entsteht eine mechanische Verbindung der Einzelteile und eine Dichtheit der Luftfeder insgesamt. Bei den häufig auftretenden Temperaturveränderungen an den Luftfedern treten unterschiedliche Wärmeausdehnungen zwischen den Klemmringen und den Beschlagteilen und gegebenenfalls auch zwischen den Kernringen in den Endwulsten und den Beschlagteilen der Luftfeder auf. Durch das dann eintretende Kriech- und Setzverhalten der beteiligten Materialien kann es zu Undichtigkeiten bei der mechanischen Verbindung des Federbalgs mit den Beschlagteilen kommen. Das Klebemittel wird vor dem Zusammenfügen des Balgendes und des betreffenden Beschlagteils mit Überschuss in eine oder mehrere auf dem Umfang des Beschlagteils angebrachte Vertiefungen eingebracht. Durch das Aufsetzen des Luftbalgendes wird der Überschuss des Klebemittels zwischen Balg und Beschlagteil verteilt. Dabei sind die Vertiefungen aus umlaufenden Nuten ausgebildet. Diese Möglichkeit ist besonders günstig bei der Verwendung von Klemmringen, da bei der Verpressung des Klemmrings der Klebstoff aus der Vertiefung herausgedrückt und zwischen Balg und Beschlagteil verteilt wird. Der Klebstoff kann dabei so in der Vertiefung untergebracht werden, dass es bei der Montage des Luftfederbalgs nicht zu einem Wegschieben des Klebstoffes kommt.
