1.1 idea

The idea behind this research with "experimenting with students" is to protect a bicycle saddle from wetness so that you can start driving straight away with a dry bottom after the rain. Many cyclists, z. Our aunt Bärbel, for example, uses a plastic bag to pull her over the saddle after having parked her bicycle. Unfortunately, such a bag must be stowed somewhere extra on the bike again. Therefore, we thought it would be better to build a cover that can be pulled over the saddle immediately after parking. Before driving off, this cover should quickly be stowed on the saddle.

To see if such coverage already exists, we have conducted a patent search on the Internet. We have seen that similar covers have already been invented, but none that meet all our requirements. The patent search has revealed that there is still no coverage as we have built.

In Fig. 1, a bicycle cover is shown, which is also an anti-theft device for bicycles. A corresponding cover on a saddle is folded on a bicycle stand. However, the cover can not, like the cover we built, be transported on a bicycle.

In Figure 2 a similar bicycle cover is shown as we built it. However, only one bag is shown here, in which the cover is stowed. Our cover, on the other hand, is rolled up on a roll, making it easier and faster to use.

In Fig. 3 a cover for a bicycle basket is shown, which can be folded after placing it on the saddle. Our invention is advantageous in our eyes, because we do not need a large bicycle basket extra.

The DE 91 12 136 U1 shows a fixed mount saddle cover. Furthermore, from the CH 682903 A5 a saddle cover has become known which can be pulled by a roller over the saddle. Furthermore, the shows CH 274654 A a device on a saddle-the vehicle to protect the saddle against rain. From the FR 1 187 196 A is a stowable in a bag saddle cover known. The WO 2005/037636 A1 discloses a protective cover for a bicycle saddle, wherein the protective cover is theft-proof connected to the bicycle saddle. Finally, out of the DE 198 43 407 A1 a protective cover with a retraction element has become known.

The invention is based on the object to provide a bicycle cover for the saddle of a bicycle, which eliminates the deficiencies known from the prior art.

1.4 Brief description of the drawings

1 and 2 show a first embodiment in which the cover is in the unused condition under the saddle.

3 shows the embodiment according to 1 and 2 with the cover pulled over the saddle.

4 shows a further embodiment in which the cover is in the unused state in the bicycle bag. Shown is the condition in which the cover is pulled over the saddle.

1.5 first models

The first trials took place in November 2007. We used a hinged saddle, as used by letter carriers, and attached a sheet metal cover to the saddle for better protection against rain. Unfortunately, our first model still had some problems: The structure with the sheets is bulky and complex to operate. In addition, the saddle is not protected from rain from the side. The next model had a roll of foil but could not be strained.

1.6 Further development of the cover

To further improve coverage and ease of use, we have built a retreat into the reel. Now, when the film is unrolled from the roll and hooked into the saddle tip, a spring stretches. The saddle is now very well protected from rain with the foil pulled out and pulled over the saddle. In order to stow the foil back and to be able to drive off quickly, the foil has to be unhooked only at the tip of the saddle: The foil is automatically rolled up again on the roll by the restoring force of the spring. If the film is rolled up on the reel, you can normally ride your bike. After parking the bike, the film can now be easily removed from the roll. 3 and 4 show the saddle with unrolled, ie mounted on the saddle slide. The saddle is now protected from rain. To be able to drive off, the film only has to be pulled off the saddle tip.

1.7 Involved persons
