Mit der Aufprägung einer Schwingungsbewegung in Umfangsrichtung der Waschwalze in Kombination mit anderen Bewegungsformen – wie rotative Bewegung und translatorische Changierbewegung der Waschwalze – gegenüber dem zu reinigenden Zylinder, kann der Waschvorgang für jede Waschaufgabe optimal gestaltet werden. Die rotative Bewegung wird durch die Drehung der Waschwalze und des zu reinigenden Zylinders realisiert. Die Waschwalze kann im gleichen Drehrichtungssinn wie der Zylinder rotieren, so dass an der Kontaktstelle zwischen Waschwalze und Zylinder eine gegenläufige Relativbewegung der Waschwalze zur Zylindermantelfläche erzeugt wird, die zu einer guten Reinigungswirkung führt. Die Walze kann aber auch gegensinnig zum Zylinder rotieren, dann ergibt sich die Relativbewegung aus unterschiedlichen Umfangsgeschwindigkeiten von Zylinder und Waschwalze. Gemäß einer vorteilhaften Ausgestaltung der Erfindung wird der Schwingungsbewegung der Waschwalze in Umfangsrichtung noch eine Changierbewegung in axialer Richtung aufgeprägt. Die seitliche Bewegung der Waschwalze sowie die Schwingung in Umfangsrichtung erfolgt periodisch oder stochastisch. Sehr gute Reinigungseffekte werden erreicht, wenn die Frequenz der Schwingung in Umfangsrichtung im Ultraschallbereich liegt, vorzugsweise bei 20 bis 40 kHz.According to the invention the object is achieved by a device having the features of the first claim.
