Die Wasserlöslichkeit vermindert sich schon bei Temperaturen über 100°, z. B. bei 150°, wobei etwa 30 Minuten erhitzt werden muß. In erheblich kürzerer Zeit, z. B. in einigen Minuten, wird die Wasserunlöslichkeit bei 200° erzielt. Man kann das Erhitzen auch zweckmäßig so1 vornehmen, daß man die Temperatur der Polymerisate allmählich ansteigen läßt oder indem man das Material auf mehreren Temperaturstufen länger verweilen läßt. Dabei ist es zweckmäßig, in Abwesenheit von Sauerstoff oder in Gegenwart von nicht oxydierenden Gasen zu arbeiten, um Verfärbungen zu vermeiden. Man kann die Erhitzung auch in indifferenten Flüssigkeiten vornehmen. Je reiner das Ausgangsmaterial ist, um so weniger treten Formveränderungen wie Aufblähen u. dgl. ein.
