According to the invention, the photographic layered carrier material contains a cellulose triacetate partial layer, obtained from a casting solution with a plasticizer content of 12 to 15%, and a second cellulose triacetate partial layer, obtained from a casting solution with a plasticizer content of 15 to 18%.
Description
The warpage of silver halide photographic materials has been a long-known and very difficult problem because two materials, the hydrophilic cellulose triacetate support material and the hydrophilic gelatin emulsion layer dressing having very different properties, function as a composite in a complex manner depending on temperature and humidity.
Sei u. Engn. 1,2 (1957 S.69 ff. undTimofejewa Techn. Kino-, televidenija 7 (1967) S. 14-20 herausgearbeitet worden. The scientific basis for these problems is provided by Umb erger Photo. Be u. Engn. 1,2 (1957 p. 69 ff. And Timofeyeva Techn. Kino-, televidenija 7 (1967) pp. 14-20.
On the one-side coated support act on drying the gelatin emulsion layer association strong shrinking forces, which lead to a curvature of the support material in the direction of the gelatin emulsion layer association.
In order to counteract these shrinkage forces of the gelatine emulsion layer dressing, a certain protrusion towards the backside is given to the layer support material so that an approximate flatness of the finished photographic material is achieved at normal conditions (about 55% rh). When changing the relative humidity or aqueous processing, the final photographic material is again subject to bulge changes, which are caused by differences in properties of the substrate layer and gelatin emulsion layer dressing to moisture.
All cellulose-triacetate films produced by casting on strip or drum casting machines tend to bow more or less to the "strip side" after drying, which is explained in GB-PS 500781 by the solvent evaporation in the caster only over the " Air side "can be done. As a result, over the thickness of the film, a concentration gradient of various substances, such as solvents, non-solvents and plasticizers is produced, as a result of which differences in tension, which lead to a curvature, arise. Here it is now trying to reduce these stresses by double-sided solvent treatment, the "air side" is more swollen.
Already with a prior patent GB-PS 436784, the voltage differences causing the buckling should be reduced by contact of the AC pad with hot or cold rollers.
The curl correction by airside treatment with cellulose derivative solutions with water-soluble mono or diacetins is described in DR P 384839.
Particularly problematic turns out to be a film curvature in large-format recording materials such as X-ray or photographic films. By pouring a so-called NC (non-curling) layer on the side facing away from the emulsion side, attempts were made to produce a corresponding counter-stress in the drying process and thus to ensure a favorable flatness of the finished photographic material. Examples of these are the patent specifications US Pat. No. 2,993,793 and British Pat. No. 794,658. However, due to the uniformity of the gelatin layers applied, the curvature of the layer support material again determines the flatness of the finished photographic material. Strong curvature changes of the substrate with changing air humidity or aqueous processing remain as a disadvantage. The method of NC coating for flatness correction is also not applicable for small picture and Kine films because Verschrammungsgefahr.
From US-PS 3054673 is known that the curvature of finished photographic materials at high relative humidity> 70% r. F. or in aqueous processing by increasing softening of the gelatin emulsion layer dressing is largely determined by the curvature of the substrate material. The use of conventional monomolecular plasticizers, such as triphenyl phosphate or phthalic acid esters, results in a plasticizer concentration gradient across the thickness of the substrate by unilateral solvent evaporation during the film forming process in the caster. These softener concentration differences, which may be as much as 20%, cause swelling differences at higher relative humidities or watering resulting in warpage changes.
B.The patent mentioned above describes the use of relatively low molecular weight polyesters instead of the usual monomolecular plasticizers. Although this can eliminate the plasticizer concentration gradient, at the same time it lacks the hydrophobizing effect of the monomolecular plasticizers ( eg.

Although it is possible with the known procedures set out so far to provide satisfactory solutions for individual special cases, the basic problem of the resulting concentration gradient over the thickness of the substrate material with effect on the change in curvature at relatively high relative humidities or watering remains unresolved.
The object of the invention is to produce a silver halide photographic material with good flatness.
Dibutylphthalat, Dimethylphthalat und Triphenylphosphat >The invention has for its object to provide a cellulose triacetate support which is suitable as a film base for photographic emulsions and in which the tendency to buckling is reduced to a minimum. According to the invention, this object is achieved in that the photographic support material comprises a cellulose triacetate sublayer, obtained from a casting solution with a plasticizer content of 12 to 15%, and a second cellulose triacetate sublayer, obtained from a casting solution with a plasticizer content of 15 to 18%, contains. To prepare the film base, a casting solution consisting of cellulose acetate, solvents, plasticizers and optionally dyes is prepared in a known manner. The prepared casting solution is poured by pourers on an endless belt. The solution solidifies under the influence of the oncoming hot dry air and the increasing heating of the band by the band heater. The solvents used are mainly methylene chloride, methanol and butanol. As a plasticizer, use is made of e.g. Dibutyl phthalate, dimethyl phthalate and triphenyl phosphate>
Film materials are generally developed in development machines. A strong curvature of the film material by this aqueous treatment leads to disturbances in the uniform leadership through the development of baths, abrasions by touching the loops with each other and film breaks. In the wet state, the curvature of the Fiimmaterials is mainly caused by the substrate. The improved flatness of the newly developed photographic support material removes these disadvantages. Furthermore, the intentionally introduced plasticizer concentration differences compensate, on the one hand, the loss of softener due to evaporation processes on the surface during the solidification process and, on the other hand, achieve an approximately uniform softener distribution across the thickness of the photographic support material due to the diffusion processes between the interfaces of the two partial layers.
Die Erfindung wird nachfolgend an einem Ausführungsbeispiel näher erläutert,Due to the uniform plasticizer distribution achieved in the photographic support material, the flatness is substantially improved at high humidities and aqueous processing without affecting other quality parameters. The invention will be explained in more detail below using an exemplary embodiment,
As already mentioned, plasticizer concentration differences due to the previous production process occur across the thickness of the photographic support material. On average, these concentration differences amount to 15-20%, with the side of the photographic layer support material facing the belt or the drum always having the higher plasticizer concentration.
The measurement results summarized in Tables 1 and 2 show the wetting behavior of photographic Schichtträgermateriaiien once without plasticizer matching (Tab.1) or with plasticizer match (Tab.2) according to the invention claim. The values given in Table 2 are the measurement results of measurements made on photographic support materials. For the preparation of the photographic support materials casting solution was used with a plasticizer content of 13% for the first sublayer and 16% for the second air facing Teiischicht. The thickness of the partial layers was in each case 50% of the total thickness of the photographic support material. The plasticizer used is a mixture of dibutyl phthalate and triphenyl phosphate.
Die Wölbungsmessungen wurden wie folgt durchgeführt:The buckling measurements were carried out as follows:
After cutting 100 x 100 mm formats, the vault height of the four corners is measured after adjustment at 55-60% relative humidity. This initial bulge (a) [st the average of the four measured values.
This is followed by a 30 minute watering of the formats in distilled water at a temperature of 22 ° C. After removing the formats, a second measurement of the curvature height of the four corners takes place immediately. The curvature thus measured is then the wet curl (b) (also called wet curl).
