Verfahren zur Herstellung von hochdisperser KieselsäureProcess for the preparation of highly dispersed silicic acid
The fields of use of the product according to the invention correspond to those of high-quality precipitated silicic acids. Partly substitution of pyrogenic silicic acids is possible. The product according to the invention can be used, for example, as thixotropic agents or thickeners in paints, adhesives and toothpastes, as matting agents, as active fillers on the silicone rubber sector and as suspension stabilizers in plastic compositions.
The currently used way to produce the so-called precipitated silicas based on the precipitation of silica from waterglass solutions by neutral salt and acid addition. The disadvantages of this process principle consist, on the one hand, in the fact that the precipitation of silica is subject to salt fractions which have to be removed by a complex washing process. On the other hand, the fumed silicas produced in this way have a lower chemical purity, lower oil absorption capacity, lower thixotroping capacity and the like, compared with the fumed silicas, which severely limits the possible applications of these silicas.
To circumvent the complex washing process was proposed in WP 56 769, instead of the water glass solutions use a virtually salt-free silica sol and the precipitation using volatile salts

vorzunehmen. It is thus possible to dry the precipitated silica immediately after it has been separated off from the precipitated salt solution, where the precipitation salt residues still remaining in the product volatilize, so that an almost salt-free highly disperse silica is immediately obtained Above all, the method described is that the quality achieved of the product obtained does not correspond to the requirements which are imposed on a high-quality precipitated silica.
Ziel der Erfindung · Object of the invention
The invention aims at producing precipitated silicas of higher quality with complete or partial avoidance of the disadvantages of the current state of the art.
The invention includes a novel precipitation process for the production of fumed silica based on the principle of using silica sol as the SiO 2 raw material.
As already stated, the use of silica sol for the production of precipitated silicas is known. In the exemplary embodiment of WP 56 769, an unspecified silica sol quality is used for the precipitation. The precipitation electrolyte used is ammonium chloride solution. The resulting precipitated silica has a bulk density of less than 200 g / l and a hydrofluoric acid residue of less than 1 %.
Hierzu ist festzustellen, daß die angegebenen Daten zur eindeutigen Charakterisierung des Verfahrens sowie der Qualität des Endproduktes nicht ausreichend sind· Anhand eigener Untersuchungen wurde festgestellt, daß unter anderem auch die Art des zur Fällung eingesetzten Kieselsoles die Qualität der gefällten Kieselsäure maßseblich beeinflußt· Es ist ein Unterschied, obfstabilesFor this purpose, it must be stated that the data given for the clear characterization of the process and the quality of the final product are not sufficient. It has been determined on the basis of our own investigations that among other things the type of silica sol used for the precipitation has a detrimental effect on the quality of the precipitated silica Difference, unstable

Erfindungsgemäß wird zur Herstellung dieser qualitativ hochwertigen Fällungskieselsäuren ammoniumstabi-or unstable silica sol is used, it is influential which stabilizing agent is used for the sol and under which conditions the preparation of the sol is carried out. The ammonium chloride used as precipitate salt in WP 56,769 is not very suitable. Its complete volatilization causes difficulties. Therefore, the high drying temperature of 500 C for the precipitated silica is specified in WP 56 769. "At this drying temperature, there is already a proportionate reduction in the silanol groups of the silica, which is not desirable for certain applications. Furthermore, the handling of the ammonium chloride in the gas phase is associated with difficulties that greatly affect the process. "For the quality of the product prepared according to WP 56 769, it should be noted that the specified bulk density of less than 200 g / l is too high for most applications , The dry weights of high-quality precipitated silicas are preferably in the range of 60 to 100 g / l. Since in the mentioned patent v / eitere meaningful information on the quality of the product obtained is missing, further discussion is not possible. It has been found that, when suitable silica sol grades are used in conjunction with suitable precipitation electrolytes, it is possible to prepare by the wet route highly disperse silica which in its quality equals or exceeds the known precipitated silicic acid types. In some parameters, even the values of the common fumed silicas, such as the Aerosils 330 were achieved. According to the invention, for the production of these high-quality precipitated silicas, ammonium-stable

So ist es beispielsweise nicht mehr möglich, eine hohe Qualität des Fällungsproduktes zu erreichen, wenn das ammoniumstabilisierte Kieselsol höheren Temperaturen ausgesetzt wird, als es den erfindungsgemäßen Temperaturbedingungen entspricht·lisiert silicic sol used which made of alkali metal silicate solution according to the ion exchange method in compliance with the temperatures of 0 to 50 0 C, SiO 2 contents of less than 10%, residual alkali metal contents of less than 0.2 Val / 1 and pH values of 8 to 12 prepared and stored isι as precipitating the ammonium salts of the simple oxygen acids of carbon, preferably carbonic acid, are used and the precipitation of the silica is carried out in such a way that the components mentioned at temperatures of 0 to 50 C, within 0.1 to 120 minutes, preferably 10 to 40 minutes, under high turbulence and maintaining a Endmolverhältnisses precipitated salt / siop 1.5 to 9.0, preferably 4 »6 big 7 t 6 are mixed. ' It is assumed that the high product qualities which can be achieved in a simple manner with the process according to the invention are fundamentally determined by the structural properties of the silicic acid solution prepared according to the invention. For example, it is no longer possible to achieve a high quality of the precipitated product if the ammonium-stabilized silica sol is exposed to higher temperatures than corresponds to the temperature conditions according to the invention.
The use of preferably the ammonium salts of carbonic acid as precipitation electrolyte has the advantage that they can easily volatilize, so that the drying of the silica can be carried out under mild conditions can. The nuisances, as present in the WP 56 769 by the recrystallizing from the gas phase ammonium chloride is avoided in the process according to the invention.
Außer einer bestimmten Qualität des Kieselsoles ist auch die Einhaltungs geeigneter FällungsbedingungenApart from a certain quality of the silica sol, the compliance with suitable precipitation conditions is also important
212461212461
The serious influences put. the precipitation temperature, the precipitation time, the precipitation salt / SiO 2 ratio and the intensity of the mixing of the components. The influence of these quantities on the product quality is complex. The first three parameters in particular influence the particle size of the precipitate. Here, the fineness of the precipitation increases with decreasing temperature and precipitation time as well as with increasing precipitation salt / SiO 2 ratio. In the precipitation bath, a high degree of turbulence is required when mixing the components. If the mixing intensity is too low, silicic acids with high apparent weights which are not suitable for the present applications of fumed silica are obtained.
As already stated above, the method according to the invention is based on the introduction of a new SiO 2 carrier solution for the precipitation process. The properties of this ammonium-stabilized silica sol are influenced not only by the production conditions mentioned but also by the quality of the water glass used for its production and the ammonia content.
According to the invention, alkali silicate solutions of the module 1.5 to 5.0, preferably 3.0 to 3.5 and with a SiOp content of not more than 10 % are used for the preparation of the ammonium-stabilized silica sol, wherein the alkali silicate solution and / or the ammonium-stabilized silica sol prepared therefrom additionally nor ammonia can be added. Due to the volatility of the ammonia, it is therefore also expedient to store the ammonium-stabilized silica sol in closed vessels.

After precipitation of the silica onto the described yeast, it may be expedient to subject the precipitate to a treatment at elevated temperature in the presence of electrolytes before drying. According to the invention, the freshly precipitated silica is treated before drying in suspension with solution of volatile salts, mainly of the precipitation electrolyte, at temperatures of 50 to 100 ° C for a period of up to 4 hours.
By this treatment , an increase in oil absorption capacity and thickening effect in water can be achieved.
From WP 28 746 it is known to dehydrate the fresh precipitate before drying by treatment with suitable organic solvents to improve the quality of precipitated silica. This procedure can also be applied to the silica precipitated according to the invention and likewise leads to quality improvements of highly disperse silica with respect to its incorporation into organic substances. However, the effort for such a treatment is so high that it is taken as far as possible. In the method according to the invention. Such treatment for the usual purposes usually not required because high product quality can be achieved by the inventive method with much simpler means. The drying of the precipitated silica is carried out after the precipitation or in the case of an Itfachbe-

According to the precipitated silica is slurried as a filter cake or suspended in suspension at temperatures of 40 to 400 0 C and at pressures of 10 Torr to 5 atü dried. The drying of the product can be carried out with the usual drying units, such as drying oven, drying drum, spray dryer, etc. *
The product is to be pulverized after drying. According to the invention, the highly dispersed silicic acid is to be pulverized at impact, impact and pressure at minimum stress after drying. "
An increased use of the product in the manner mentioned leads to a deterioration of its quality characteristics. Therefore, for example, ball mills are not suitable for pulverization. * Pin mills can be used for this purpose to a limited extent, but preference is given to grinding in jet mills.
It has been found that after sharper drying the fumed silica is sometimes slightly yellowish · The reason for this is the quality of the technical raw materials used and the procedure used in the preparation. It was therefore a way to eliminate this deficiency ·
Bei Anwendung des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens zur Herstellung hochdisperser Kieselsäure wurden, wieAccording to the invention, the finely divided silica is exposed to increase its whiteness of a temperature treatment of 400 to 600 0 C for a period of 5 to 30 minutes and then again carried out a pulverization according to claim 5.
