Description
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of carboxymethylated products from starch and cellulose, in particular their water-soluble sodium salts, which can be applied advantageously in a variety of industries due to their chemical and physical properties, v / e. As a protective colloid and viscosity regulator in drilling fluids for geological exploration, as a debris carrier in the ¥ aschraittelindustrie, as sizing, finishing and printing thickeners in the textile industry, as a mass and surface sizing agent in the paper industry and as an adhesive.
Carboxymethylated products of starch or cellulose have long been known and are mainly used as water-soluble polymeric auxiliaries for a variety of Anwendungszvecken.
In principle, the carboxymethylation of the starch or cellulose is technically carried out by reaction with mostly aqueous alkali metal hydroxide and subsequent reaction with monochloroacetic acid or its alkali metal salts, it being possible to differentiate between two procedures.
Thus, processes for the preparation of Carboxytncthyl starch or carboxymethyl cellulose are known which operate without the use of organic solvents, with a high cost of energy-intensive kneading, rubbing, pressing and / or shearing work and long reaction times are required.
229256229256
The reaction efficacy of the etherifying agent is often low in these processes, since a relatively high proportion of water in the reaction mixture and the excess of alkali used leads to partial saponification of the etherification agent as a side reaction of the carboxymethylation.
From the DD-EB 57 £ & 6 a process for the preparation of carboxyalkyl cellulose is known in which alkali cellulose is mixed with a clear solution of technical monohalogenated carboxylic acid with concentrated aqueous alkali hydroxide and converted to carboxyalkyl cellulose ν 'becomes.
Furthermore, processes for the preparation of carboxymethyl starch or carboxymethyl cellulose using organic solvents or solvent mixtures as reaction medium are known. As a result, in particular, the swelling phenomena occurring in the starch in the alkaline medium and the formation of a viscous, elastic reaction mass can be largely avoided. These processes are expensive in terms of energy and equipment, since it is usually necessary to work at a high liquor ratio (eg 1 part by weight of starch or cellulose to 5 to 25 parts by volume of solvent) and thus use large amounts of solvent, work up and recirculate.
It is also known, native or modified starch, as well as starch derivatives with cellulose ethers, such as. As carboxymethylcellulose to combine. The preparation of such products is carried out from the separately prepared components in a known manner by mechanical mixing and gives without special treatment mixtures with powdery or fibrous-powdery structure, which are easy to demix and have a poor flow behavior. In order to obtain products with free-flowing granular structure, which are advantageous both in the transport, handling and storage process as well as in the application, the additional process step of granulation in many complex manner is necessary.

Darlegung des Wesens der Erfindung Explanation of the essence of the invention
- Aufgabenstellung- Task
Aufgabe der Erfindung ist die Entwicklung eines technisch leicht beherrschbaren und wirtschaftlichen Verfahrens zur Herstellung von carboxymethylierten Produkten aus Stärke und Cellulose, das die bekannten Nachteile der Herstellung derartiger Produkte beseitigt undThe object of the invention is the development of a technically easily manageable and economical process for the preparation of carboxymethylated products of starch and cellulose, which eliminates the known disadvantages of the production of such products and
es gestattet, innerhalb kurzer Reaktionszeiten und unter ökonomisch günstiger Ausnutzung der eingesetzten Rohstoffe billigere,, qualitativ hochwertige Produkte mit rieselfähiger Granulatstruktur herzustellen.it makes it possible to produce cheaper, high-quality products with pourable granule structure within short reaction times and with economically favorable utilization of the raw materials used.
- Merkmale der ErfindungFeatures of the invention
The object is erfindungsgernäß in that mixtures of starch and crushed cellulose in the presence of a miscible with IJasser lower aliphatic alcohol with aqueous 4o to 52 / Sigen alkali metal hydroxide, especially sodium hydroxide, alkalized at 5 to 4o C within 1o to 4-0 minutes and subsequently reacted with an etherifying agent at a reaction temperature below 8 ° C., advantageously below the gelatinization temperature of the starch and preferably at 30 ° C. in a reactor, preferably a heatable litter mixer with additional homogenization tools, within 3 to 15 minutes to give carboxymethylated products. After completion of the reaction, the reaction products are dried in known manner to the desired final moisture content, with removal of the alcohol before or during the drying process in the reactor or in a suitable drying apparatus , z. B. swirl tube dryer ,, while alcohol recovery can take place. It has been found that for the practice of the process starch-cellulose mixtures, preferably consisting of up to 75% by weight starch in Fora of native starch such as wheat, rice, corn or tapioca starch, preferably potato starch and modified starch and as Rest to 1oo % of the cellulose in the form of crushed wood cellulose, such as. B. beech or spruce pulp, or linters, the appropriate to. the particle size required for the reaction was comminuted in a known manner, preferably in particle size limits of 0.1 to 5 ram.
A higher proportion of starch in the starch-cellulose mixtures than specified is also possible according to the invention but, after completion of the reaction, gives no reaction products with free-flowing granule structure. The starch-cellulose mixtures are advantageously prepared by mixing the starch and the cellulose in the reactor under intensive action by mixing tools and with the addition of a lower aliphatic alcohol. It is advantageous to add, as swell-inhibiting substance, a water-miscible lower aliphatic alcohol, preferably ethanol, in a ratio of 1 part by weight of starch-cellulose mixture to 0.3 to 2 parts by volume of alcohol.
Appropriately, can be used as Verätherungsmittel for Carboxyniethylierung the starch-cellulose mixtures, a known clear solution of partially neutralized monochloroacetic acid, from 8o to 97 »5 parts by weight of 98 to 1oo ^ monochloroacetic acid and 2.5 to 2o parts by weight 4-o to 52 / Sigem aqueous alkali metal hydroxide is prepared. Thus, one can achieve a higher reaction efficiency of Verätherungsmittels than with other known Verätherungsmitteln.
Die anschließend in bekannter Weise getrockneten Reaktionsprodukte haben eine rieselfähige Granulatstruktur mit abgerundeter stumpfkantiger Oberfläche, eine Korngröße vonFurthermore, it has been found that it is advantageous to carry out the individual reaction steps of the process according to the invention in a reactor under intensive action of centrifugal and / or vortex forces. These are primarily temperature-controlled, ie heatable and coolable Kurfmiseher with additional homogenization tools such. B · high-speed rotating knife-like mixing elements or pin mills. For the production of a free-flowing granular structure of the reaction products in addition to the particle size of the starch-cellulose mixtures, the starch content in the starch-cellulose mixtures and the intense action of centrifugal and / or Wxrbelkräften a certain moisture content of the reaction products usually necessary. This is dependent on the desired product quality and is suitably adjusted after removal of the alcohol from the reaction product by addition of water to preferably 25 to 5o % . The necessary Viassermenge is advantageous as an aqueous solution z. As a lleutralisationsaittels, Abbauraittels or similar, supplemented and finely distributed under intensive action of centrifugal and liirbelkräf th applied to the reaction product. The subsequently dried in a known manner reaction products have a free-flowing granular structure with rounded blunt surface, a grain size of
ο,ο5 bis 4 mm, vorzugsweise von o,1 bin 2 ram, eine enge Kornverteilung innerhalb des angegebenen Korngrößenbereiches und ein Schiittgev/icht von 250 bis 750 g/l, vorzugsweise 4oo bis 7oo g/l.ο, ο 5 to 4 mm, preferably from o, 1 bin 2 ram, a narrow particle size distribution within the specified particle size range and a Schiittgev / icht from 250 to 750 g / l, preferably 4oo to 7oo g / l.
The process according to the invention for the preparation of carboxy-methylated products from starch-cellulose mixtures makes it possible to obtain different product qualities by varying the molar ratios of the reaction components, the reaction times, the reaction temperatures of the starch and cellulose qualities, of the starch and cellulose components in the starch Cellulose blends and by the action of '' ^ degradation agents, crosslinking agents or extractants to remove the reaction by-products, especially sodium chloride and sodium glycolate produce.
A particular advantage of the method according to the invention over the known technical solutions is to produce cheaper products with improved utility properties, in particular free-flowing granule structure, within shorter reaction times and with economically more favorable use of raw materials. Furthermore, readily processable products with specifically adjustable granular properties can be produced by the process according to the invention, so that subsequent process steps of granulation, comminution and sieving are completely or largely avoided.
