The invention relates to a method and a device for applying coatings to metallic objects such as pipes, strips or sheets, in particular for external coating of unalloyed steel tubes, in which the objects are heated prior to coating and optionally cleaned and then to the still warm objects in Solvent dissolved paint is applied «
Tubes, strips or sheets made of non-rusting steels are subject to corrosion during storage as well as during transport and are easily affected by rust, especially on the outside surfaces. If, for example, such pipes are to be processed or laid, these pipes must be freed in a complex manner with metal brushes, sandblast or other suitable methods of adhering rust or corrosion products before they can be provided with a coat of paint.
Immediately after their manufacture outside coated objects are protected especially during the subsequent storage and transport against rust and corrosion and can be provided in a simple manner with the desired finish of the processing.

It has therefore already been proposed to apply paints dissolved in solvents at surface temperatures above the boiling point of the solvent in order to shorten the drying time. However, such a method brings the risk of blistering and thus the formation of poorly adhering coatings with it.
The aim of the invention is to apply a securely adhering coating on metallic objects immediately after their production.
The invention has for its object to make the application of a coating of a dissolved in a solvent paint on metallic objects that are heated before coating and optionally cleaned in such a short time that the continuous application of the coating in the manufacturing process to be coated Objects can be integrated.
Zur Lösung dieser Aufgabe besteht das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren im wesentlichen derin, daß auf die Gegenstände bei Oberflächontemperaturen von wenigstens i?U 0C und unter dem Siedepunkt von Wasser ein mit Wasser verdünnbarer t in Wasser gelöster Lack in an sich bekannter Weise, insbesondere durch Sprühen, Rotetionssprühen und/oder elektrostatisch, aufgetragen wird, und der an der Oberfläche der noch warmen Gegenstände anhaftende Lackfilm in an sich bekannter V/eise, vorzugsweise durch Aufsprühen von kaltemTo achieve this object, the inventive method consists essentially derin that the items during Oberflächontemperaturen of at least i? U 0 C and below the boiling point of water, a water-dilutable t dissolved in water paint in manner known per se, in particular by spraying, Rotetive spraying and / or electrostatic, is applied, and adhering to the surface of the still warm objects paint film in a conventional per se, preferably by spraying cold

Water-dilutable paints generally have about 45 % paint solids and contain as solvent Väasser in a proportion of about 45% by weight. The proportion of organic solvents accounts for only about 10 % of these paints. Such paints are not adversely affected by possibly still adhering, originating from the cleaning and preheating V / asser in their adhesiveness and tend at the relatively high temperatures of about 70 0 C not to blistering. These paints can be sprayed in a known manner, for example with electrostatically operating rapidly rotating spray bells, whereby the majority of the solvent already evaporates during atomization and spraying. Since this solvent mainly consists of water, no costly environmental protection measures are required and arise Above all, unlike conventional paints, unpleasant-smelling, unhealthy and often easily flammable vapors. The water vapor can be sucked off easily ·
Eine solche Blasenbildung kannThe short time required for the coating makes it possible, for example, to guide tubes in their longitudinal direction through a coating installation. Furthermore, it allows the formation of devices that require only a very small space. It is already known to heat objects which are coated with plastic before coating. However, such processes are extremely expensive, and heating of objects prior to simple painting has hitherto been precluded by the prejudice that the lacquer layer on the heated article forms blisters inclines. Such blistering can

Preferably, according to the invention, the objects are cleaned and heated with hot water to which cleaning agent, in particular phosphates, is added at a temperature of from 50 to 90 ° C., preferably from 60 to 80 ° C. The use of hot water allows this in a simple V / eise both the required preheating to shorten the Beschiichtungszeit and thus reducing the space requirement of the required system as well as an effective cleaning of the surfaces of the objects to be coated.
In order to enable a continuous conveyance and removal of the metallic objects at high speed, the procedure is preferably such that the paint film adhering to the surface of the still warm objects is preferably cooled by spraying cold water, which is then blown off with compressed air ; ird. In this way, the still soft paint film is rapidly cured by the cold water and can be carried forward without difficulties and risk of damage to the surface with conventional transport devices.
Die Vorrichtung zur Durchführung dieses Verfahrens ist im wesentlichen gekennzeichnet durch eine Fördereinrichtung für die metallischen Gegenstände, eine quer zur Fördereinrichtung sprühende Hochdruck-Ileißwasserstrahleinrichtungj eine dieser in Pöraerrichtung nacligeGehalteten und von der Fördereinrichtung durchsetzte Lackierkabine mit quer zurThe apparatus for carrying out this method is essentially characterized by a conveyor for the metallic objects, a transversely to the conveyor spraying high-pressure Ileißwasserstrahlhleinrichtungj one of these in the direction Pöraerrichtung nacligeGeh and traversed by the conveyor paint booth with transverse to

Auf diese V.eise ist die für elektrostatische Verfahren erforderliche Potentialdifferenz sichergestellt«Conveyor arranged spray bells for a dissolved in water paint and a downstream in the conveying direction cooling device, which is arranged to the paint booth and the first following in the conveying direction support roller of the conveyor. Such a device can easily form part of the production line for pipes, strips or sheets. In this case, the paint booth is preferably equipped with high-rotation spray bells, to which a high-voltage source can be connected. In such an embodiment, the solvent evaporates for the most part before it impacts the surface of the article to be coated, and it is only necessary to provide a paint booth and a suitable exhaust device for the solvent vapors, which are preferably only water vapors. In a further embodiment, the conveyor on support rollers, of which at least one of the paint booth upstream and coming into contact with the objects role is made conductive and grounded. In this way, the potential difference required for electrostatic processes is ensured «
The cooling device preferably has a Kaltwassersprüheinrichtung and downstream in the conveying direction blower or Preßluftdüsen, wherein at least the cold water spraying device before the first, the paint booth downstream support roller is arranged. This design ensures that the coating is already sufficiently cured before it comes into contact with the next support roller, whereby it has become insensitive to damage.

Dem Heißwasser können Phosphate und andere Reinigungsmittel zugesetzt werden , und ea wirdOn a roller stand 1 support rollers 2 are rotatably mounted, on the tubes 3 in the direction of an arrow 4, which symbolizes the conveying direction, are promoted. In a high-pressure hot water jet device 5, hot water is sprayed onto the tubes 3 under pressure, wherein the effluent water is collected in a funnel 6 and can be easily recycled. The water supplied to the high-pressure hot-water jet device 5 can be heated, for example, via a continuous-flow heater, the heating being to take place at a temperature which is below the boiling point of the lacquer solvent. The temperature of the hot water should preferably be 80 ° C. when using water-soluble paints, thereby ensuring heating of the pipe 3, which results in a surface temperature of not more than 70 ° C. in the interior of a subsequent painting booth 7. The hot water preferably exits from annular nozzles under a pressure of about 60 bar, resulting in a very good cleaning of the surface of the tubes 3 of fats, oils and other impurities. Durch eine entsprechende Preßluft-The conveying speed in the direction of the arrow 4 is at dör in Fig. 1 shown plant 1 m / min. By the contact with the support rollers 2 and the wetting with water, the tubes 3 are perfectly grounded, as it is necessary for the electrostatic application of paints. Due to the heat of the pipes 3 now evaporates the relatively thin Viasserfilm to the entrance opening 8 of the spray booth 7 »so that the tubes 3 inside the spray booth 7 are already completely dry. Inside the paint booth 7 high-rotation spray bells 9 are arranged, which are charged with a voltage up to 150 kV and atomize the paint at a rotational speed of about 40,000 rev / min. In these high-rotation spray bells 9 water-soluble paint is sprayed, which consists essentially of 45 % paint solids, 45 % water and 10 % organic solvents. The paint particles are electrostatically charged and beat down the built high voltage field following the tubes 3 and form a coherent coating film. Due to the fine atomization of the paint and the high-rotation spray bells 9 or disks, a large proportion of the solvent, which consists of ordinary water, is already volatilized. Due to the heat of the pipes 3, the rest of the water is expelled from the paint film, so that the pipes 3 almost dry leave the spray booth 7. Since the paint solid or the resin of the paint in the paint film on the tubes 3 by the temperature of the tubes 3 is still somewhat soft, they are cooled by a subsequent cold water spray device 10. Through a corresponding compressed air
