Detailed Description
Referring initially to fig. 1 and 2, a control system for controlling a motor vehicle transmission basically includes a portable device 10 and a mounting base 12 adapted to receive the portable device 10.
The mounting base 12 is configured to be attached to a point of the passenger compartment of the vehicle that is easily accessible by the driver, particularly on the central tunnel where the gear lever is typically located. As shown in fig. 1, the mounting base 12 has a base 14, and the portable device 10 is received in the base 14 in use. An electrical connector 16 is provided in the base 14 to couple with a corresponding electrical connector (not shown) of the portable device 10 when the portable device 10 is received in the base 14 of the mounting base 12 to ensure electrical and electronic connection of the portable device 10 with the mounting base 12 and thus with the vehicle.
Preferably, the mounting base 12 also includes one or more control buttons (in the illustrated example, a first control button 18 and a second control button 20) that the driver can operate to control respective functions of the vehicle, such as selecting a park position (position "P") of the transmission (button 18) and selecting a sequential operating mode (position "S") of the transmission (button 20), if present. Furthermore, in order to allow the driver to control the shifting to a higher gear or a lower gear when the sequential operating mode of the transmission has been activated, two control buttons (one for controlling the shifting to a higher gear and the other for controlling the shifting to a lower gear) or a single tilt button may be provided on the mounting base 12.
The above-mentioned control buttons are made as physical buttons in the illustrated example, or may be made as virtual buttons, in which case the mounting base 12 will have a touch screen on which these control buttons and/or other possible control buttons are displayed.
Advantageously, the mounting base 12 further comprises a release button 22, which release button 22 is operable by the driver to disengage the portable device 10 from the mounting base 12, for example once the engine or motor has stopped when the driver desires to get off the vehicle.
Referring now to fig. 3, the portable device 10 has a configuration similar to a typical electronic key for a motor vehicle and preferred dimensions (particularly in terms of length and width).
The portable device 10 includes a housing 24, the housing 24 preferably being formed of two separate half- shells 26a and 26b (i.e., an upper half-shell 26a and a lower half-shell 26b), respectively.
On the top side of the portable device 10, a plurality of control buttons are provided in a seat formed in a middle region of the upper half 26a, each control button being operable to select a respective operating position or mode of the transmission. In particular, according to the embodiment shown in fig. 1 to 3, the portable device 10 is provided with three control buttons, indicated respectively by 28, 30 and 32, associated with a forward driving position (position "D"), a neutral position (position "N") and a reverse position (position "R"). Thus, the control buttons 28, 30, and 32 provided on the portable device 10, together with the control buttons 18 and 20 provided on the mounting base 12, allow all of the positions normally provided in an automatic transmission to be selected. Naturally, the portable device 10 may have a different number of control buttons than the portable device shown in fig. 1 to 3, in particular a greater number of control buttons.
A plurality of control buttons for controlling the opening and closing of the vehicle door are provided on the underside of the portable device 10 in seats formed in the lower half-shell 26 b. For example, a control button 34 for collectively opening the vehicle doors, a control button 36 for collectively closing the vehicle doors, and a control button 38 for opening the vehicle tailgate (in the case of a power tailgate, this control button 38 may also be used to control the closing of the tailgate).
Since the control buttons are provided on opposite sides, i.e., the top and bottom sides, of the portable device 10, the size of the device is reduced and the number of buttons remains unchanged.
Then, when the portable device 10 is removed from the mounting base 12, the driver can use the portable device 10 as a general electronic key for remotely controlling the opening and closing of the vehicle door, and the portable device 10, once coupled with the mounting base 12, serves as a control device for selecting the operating position of the vehicle transmission (if necessary, in the case where the number of control buttons provided on the portable device is smaller than the number of operating positions of the transmission, it is also possible to use additional buttons provided on the mounting base).
The portable device 10 may also include a mechanical key (not shown in the embodiment of fig. 1-3), preferably made as a fold key, that may be used by a user to control the opening and closing of the vehicle door and/or to control the starting and stopping of the vehicle engine or motor.
Another embodiment of the portable device 10 is shown in fig. 4-6, where parts and elements that are the same as or correspond to those of fig. 1-3 are indicated by the same reference numerals.
According to this further embodiment, the portable device 10 has a touch screen 40 on its top side, in place of the physical control buttons 28, 30 and 32, through which touch screen 40 the driver can control the transmission of the vehicle (as shown in fig. 4) and other systems of the vehicle, such as an infotainment system (as shown in fig. 5), if present.
A specific screen associated with a function of the vehicle that the driver desires to control will be displayed on the touch screen 40 at an instant. For example, when the portable device 10 is used as a control device for controlling a transmission of a vehicle, a set of virtual control buttons will be displayed on the touch screen 40, each virtual control button corresponding to a respective operating position of the transmission. In the illustrated example, three virtual control buttons are shown, corresponding to the transmission operating positions R, N and D, which would be used in addition to the physical control buttons 18 and 20 provided on the mounting base 12, but of course a different number of virtual control buttons could be displayed depending on the particular application.
Further, when a sequential operating mode of the transmission is selected (e.g., via control buttons 20 provided on the mounting base 12), the touch screen 40 may display two virtual control buttons "+" and "-" that will be touched by the driver to engage a higher gear or a lower gear, respectively.
On the other hand, when the portable device 10 is used as a control device for controlling an infotainment system of a vehicle, it will be convenient to display a set of screens, each screen corresponding to a particular function of the system, such as one screen for a telephone function (as shown in fig. 5), one screen for a radio function, one screen for a multimedia player function, and the like.
Finally, fig. 6 of the drawings schematically shows the main parts of the portable device 10 according to the embodiment of fig. 4 and 5 (that is, in this embodiment, the touch screen is provided on the top side of the device). In addition to the upper and lower housing halves 26a, 26b described above and the touch screen 40 described above, the portable device 10 also includes a printed circuit board 42 and a rechargeable battery 44 (preferably, a wirelessly rechargeable battery). Furthermore, as already explained, the portable device 10 is also preferably provided with a mechanical key (indicated by 46 in fig. 6) for controlling the opening and closing of the vehicle door and/or the starting and stopping of the engine or electric motor of the vehicle.
Naturally, the principle of the utility model remaining the same, the embodiments and the construction details may be varied widely from those described and illustrated purely by way of non-limiting example, without thereby departing from the scope of the utility model as defined in the appended claims.
In particular, the touch screen, which in the embodiments of fig. 4 to 6 is provided on only one side of the portable device, in particular on the top side, may be provided on two opposite sides of the device, i.e. the top side and the bottom side.
Further, the portable device 10 may operate as a burglar alarm and be provided with a GPS transponder, and may also operate as a satellite burglar alarm.
The portable device 10 may also include a digital fingerprinting system to allow customized management of a plurality of parameters and settings of the vehicle (e.g., power parameters of the vehicle, settings of the infotainment system, ergonomic adjustments, etc.).
Furthermore, the portable device 10 may include an internal memory for storing data relating to the vehicle status (when the device is connected to the CAN bus network of the vehicle) and/or data relating to the owner or user of the vehicle, such as driving seat adjustments (e.g. the position of the seat and the position of the drive wheels) and preferred settings of the multimedia system.
The portable device 10 may also be provided with a remote communication system for remote communication with the vehicle, allowing the driver to remotely start the engine or motor of the vehicle and drive the vehicle, for example when parking in or out of a narrow parking space.
If suitably programmed, the portable device 10 may be used on several vehicles provided with the same control system, for example on vehicles of the same domestic unit or vehicles of the same company fleet.
In addition, the portable device 10 or the mounting base 12 may further include a button for controlling an electric parking brake of the vehicle.
According to another embodiment (not shown), once the sequential operating mode of the transmission is selected, the portable device 10 may be tiltably received in the mounting base 12 to allow the driver to engage a higher gear or a lower gear by tilting the portable device in one direction or the opposite direction, respectively.
Furthermore, the present invention is intended to be applicable to any type of motor vehicle, regardless of the type of engine or electric motor used to power the vehicle, which may be an internal combustion engine, an electric motor, or a hybrid powertrain having an electric motor coupled to an internal combustion engine, and regardless of the type of transmission mounted on the vehicle for transmitting motion to the wheels.
