使用时，将食指和中指插入顶盘和金属球之间，使固定杆向上移动将弹片和固定球拉入活动管内，可轻松将活动管插入支撑管或从支撑管取出。当松手时，在金属球在重力的作用下，使固定杆向下移动，在弹片的作用下使固定球卡入支撑管的通孔内起到固定作用。
