目前，为了延长轧辊的使用寿命，大多数把用来轧制板材的轧辊做成复合结构，由轧辊芯和辊套构成，辊套材质多是由耐磨的合金钢制成，当辊套磨损变形，将辊套与辊芯分离，由于辊芯是圆柱形，辊套是圆筒状结构，中间用粘合剂粘合，很难更换。安装时由于有粘合剂，又为了接触紧密，不留有空隙，非常难安装，费时费力。
