技术领域
本发明总的涉及一种用于端接同轴电缆的连接器。更具体地,本发明涉及一种同轴电缆连接器,其提供一种消除了准备同轴电缆末端必要性的连接方法。
背景技术
众所周知利用连接器来端接同轴电缆,可以将电缆连接到不同的电子设备上,例如电视机、收音机,等等。现有技术中的同轴连接器通常包括:连接器本体,其具有环形轴环,用于容纳同轴电缆;环形螺母,可转动地耦合至轴环,用于提供连接器与外部设备的机械连接;以及环形柱,插入在轴环与螺母之间。也可以在轴环与螺母之间的可转动接合点处设置弹性密封O形环,以在该位置提供防水密封。轴环包括电缆容纳端,用于可插入地容纳所插入的同轴电缆;以及,在连接器本体的相对端,螺母具有内螺纹端部区域,使连接器本体通过螺纹连接到外部设备。
这种类型的同轴连接器还包括锁紧衬套,以固定同轴连接器本体内部的电缆。锁紧衬套,通常由弹性塑料制成,可以确保连接器本体将同轴连接器固定在其上。在这点上,连接器本体通常包括与锁紧衬套配合的某种类型的结构。这种结构可以包括一个或多个凹部或定位槽(detents),其形成于连接器本体的内环形表面上,与衬套外表面上所形成的结构相配合。这种类型的同轴电缆连接器在现有的(commonly owned)美国专利No.6,530,807中被示出和描述。
传统的同轴电缆通常包括由绝缘体围绕的中心导线。导电箔片设置在绝缘体上方,并且编织而成的导电护罩围绕着包裹绝缘体的箔片。外绝缘护套围绕着护罩。为了预备端接的同轴电缆,外护套被向后剥离,露出编织而成的导电护罩的被折回在护套上。由导电箔片所覆盖的绝缘体部分,从护套向外延伸,而且中心导线的部分从绝缘体内部向外延伸。一旦组装到同轴电缆上,环形柱就被插入到覆盖绝缘体的箔片与电缆的导电护罩之间。
不必说,预备用于装入到连接器内的同轴电缆末端的工艺是需要一点技巧的,而且也消耗一些时间。现有同轴连接器的另一个问题在于,为了将连接器正确地连接到同轴护罩电缆上,需要大量的体力,才能将同轴护罩电缆推过柱的倒刺(barb)。在传统的安装过程中,当具有倒刺的柱在箔片与编织物之间被推动时,电缆可能被卡住,而产生令人不满意的电连接和机械连接。因此,准备过程中的失误可能导致连接器安装的失败。
因此,期望提供一种同轴连接器,其能够消除准备同轴电缆末端的必要性。特别是,期望提供一种同轴连接器,其允许将简单地整齐地切成平齐的电缆安装在其中。更进一步期望提供一种同轴电缆连接器,其能够消除对于使用过多的力气将柱推入同轴护罩电缆内的需要,并且能够防止同轴护罩电缆卡住。
发明内容
本发明的目的在于提供一种用于端接同轴电缆的同轴电缆连接器。
本发明的另一目的在于提供一种同轴电缆连接器,其消除了对于准备同轴电缆末端的需要。
为有效实现上述和其它目的,本发明提供了一种同轴电缆连接器。本发明的连接器大致包括连接器本体和连接至连接器本体的环形柱。连接器本体具有后电缆容纳端,以及限定于后电缆容纳端中的内螺纹表面。内螺纹表面适用于螺纹接合同轴电缆的外表面。环形柱具有设置于连接器本体内的后电缆插入端,环形柱优选地限定了尖锐边缘,当连接器本体螺纹连接到电缆的外表面时,该尖锐边缘刺入电缆的末端。
在优选实施例中,连接器还包括轴向可移动锁紧衬套,其连接至连接器本体的后电缆容纳端,用于将电缆锁定在连接器内。连接器还优选地包括设置在锁紧衬套与连接器本体之间的环形压紧垫圈,该压紧垫圈在锁紧衬套与连接器本体之间的压紧作用下,沿径向向内扩张,以夹紧电缆的外表面。优选地,锁紧衬套包括外螺纹表面,并且连接器本体还包括内螺纹衬套接合表面,与衬套的外螺纹表面配合,从而有助于锁紧衬套在连接器本体中的轴向运动。
本发明的连接器还可以包括中心设有引线插头的环形柱。引线插头包括后端,后端上形成有中心孔,用于容纳同轴连接器的中心导线。优选地,插头的后端端接于尖锐边缘,以利于插头插入同轴电缆的中心导线与环绕绝缘部分之间。
本发明还包括用于在连接器中端接同轴电缆的方法。该方法大体上包括如下步骤:将同轴电缆的端部切平,或者通过某种方式使电缆的中心导线向外延伸出一段距离;以及在电缆的末端上转动连接器的连接器本体,从而连接器本体的内螺纹表面螺纹地接合护套的外表面。连接器本体在电缆上的转动,也造成设置于连接器本体内的环形柱刺入电缆的末端。
上述方法的优选实施例,进一步包括轴向移动锁紧衬套进入连接器本体内的步骤,以将电缆锁定在连接器内,其中,锁紧衬套的轴向移动将压紧垫圈压紧,从而压紧垫圈径向向内扩张,夹紧电缆。
作为本发明的优点是,在安装到连接器上之前,准备同轴电缆末端所需的时间,即使没有完全消除,也被大大降到了最少。

具体实施方式
首先参照图1和图2,示出了本发明的同轴电缆连接器10。连接器10大致包括三个组成部分:连接器本体12、环形柱14、以及可转动螺母16。优选地,连接器10还包括轴向可移动的锁紧衬套18,以帮助将电缆固定到连接器上,下文将对其进行更详细的描述。还可以想到,连接器本体12和柱14可以成为一个零件,和/或可以采用除可转动螺母16之外的另一紧固装置。
连接器本体12是伸长的大致呈圆筒形的元件,其优选地由塑料制成,以使成本最低。可选地,本体12可以由金属或类似的材料制成。本体12具有:前端20,连接至柱14和螺母16;以及相对的后电缆容纳端22,用于可插入地容纳同轴电缆的末端。在这点上,连接本体12的前端20优选地包括:内凹槽或者凹陷35,用于以搭扣配合(snap-fit)方式容纳柱14的加宽部46。柱的加宽部46可以仅仅是柱的斜面凸缘部28的前末端,如图所示,或者专门的突起可以形成在柱14上,用于装入凹槽35之内。在任一种情况下,加宽部46和凹槽35都具有相对的锁紧面,一旦接合,其就会防止柱14相对于连接器本体12的向前轴向移动。
环形柱14还包括凸缘基部24,其提供了螺母16与连接器本体12的固定。具体地,螺母16上形成有柱容纳凹槽或者空间48,用于容纳柱14的凸缘基部24。在组装时,柱14首先滑入螺母16内,从而凸缘基部24容纳于螺母的柱容纳空间48内。随后,柱14的后端,和保持的螺母16以及其前端,插入到连接器本体12的前端20内,直到柱的加宽部或者突起46被搭扣配合到连接器本体的内凹槽35中。以这种方式,柱14和螺母16被保持到连接器本体12上。
螺母16可以是任何类型的,例如六角螺母、滚花螺母、蝶型螺母,或者任何其它已知的连接方式,并且可转动地连接到柱14上,用于提供连接器10与外部设备的机械连接。螺母16包括内螺纹端部区域32,使连接器10的螺纹连接部可以拧入外部设备。弹性密封O形环34可以位于本体12与螺母16之间的可转动接合处,以在该位置提供防水密封。
相对的后电缆容纳端22限定了内螺纹电缆接合表面21,用于螺纹接合电缆的外护套,这些将在下文进行详细描述。电缆接合表面21的内螺纹的直径稍小于连接器10适用于固定的电缆的外直径。
而且,在其最后端,连接器本体12的电缆容纳端22进一步优选地限定了内衬套接合表面23,用于接合锁紧衬套18,这些将在下文进一步详细描述。内衬套接合表面23可以适用于简单地摩擦接合并固定衬套18,或者其可以设有诸如定位槽、凹槽或者突起的结构,与衬套18上所设置的对应结构相配合。在现有的美国专利No.6,530,807中描述了此类结构,其中细节结合于此作为参照。
然而,在优选实施例中,内衬套接合表面23由向后凸出的突起39和内螺纹表面41的组合限定。连接器本体12的向后凸出的突起39沿轴向向内延伸,并且当锁紧衬套处于向前锁定位置时,突起39被容纳于锁紧衬套18上所形成的凹槽43内,这些将在下文进一步详细描述。同时,连接器本体衬套接合表面23的内螺纹表面41与锁紧衬套18上所形成的外螺纹表面45配合。衬套接合表面23的内螺纹41的直径大于电缆接合表面21的螺纹直径,以允许电缆插入穿过内衬套接合表面,进入电缆接合表面的内螺纹中。
回到环形柱14,该柱进一步包括环形管状延伸部26,其在本体12内延伸。优选地,管状延伸部26的远端包括斜面凸缘部28,其沿向前的方向径向向外延伸,用于将同轴电缆的外护套压向连接器本体的内直径,从而将电缆固定在连接器内。优选地,斜面凸缘部28,以尖锐边缘30端接于柱14的后远端,从而安装过程中有助于电缆的金属箔片与金属护罩的分离,将在下文进一步详细描述。柱14的斜面凸缘部28以及本体12限定了环行腔室31,用于容纳插入的同轴电缆的护套和护罩。
本发明特别适用于具有整体引线插头的同轴连接器,然而在其它类型的连接器中也是完全适用的。在整体插头型连接器中,柱14还包括内插头25,其中心设置于柱14内,并且具有形成于其后远端的中心孔27,用于容纳电缆的中心导线。优选地,插头25以围绕中心孔27的尖锐边缘33端接于后远端。插头25的尖锐后边缘33,有利于电缆的中心导线与绝缘芯的分离,这些将在下文进一步详细讨论。柱14进一步包括固定于柱内的环形绝缘体29,以在柱内沿轴向中心方向支撑插头25。
锁紧衬套18以及螺母16的内螺纹端延伸部32限定了连接器10的相对端。锁紧衬套18是大致的管状件,其具有后电缆容纳端36和相对的前连接器插入端38,其可移动地连接于连接器本体12的内表面23。如上所述,衬套18的前端38包括外圆柱形连接器本体接合表面37,其与连接器本体12的后端22中所形成的内衬套接合表面23相接合。同样如上所述,衬套的外接合表面37可以包括与本体12的接合表面23上所形成的结构相配合的结构。在优选实施例中,衬套18的外接合表面37由凹槽43和外螺纹45共同限定,凹槽43和外螺纹45分别与本体12的内接合表面上所形成的凸出的突起39和内螺纹41相配合。
在这个实施例中,由于衬套的转动会使之沿箭头A所示的向前的方向轴向向内移动进入连接器本体12,从而锁紧衬套18可以被称为锁紧螺母或者压紧螺母。因而,锁紧衬套18可以朝向螺母16从图1所示的“打开”位置向图2所示的更向前的第二“关闭”位置移动,这进一步将电缆固定于连接器内。通过衬套的转动,锁紧衬套18向前移动进入连接器本体12内,直到连接器本体的凸出的突起39进入衬套上所形成的凹槽43内为止。为了促进此向前移动,并且抑制向后移动,连接器本体12的凸出的突起39可以包括向前的迎面垂直壁47以及向后的迎面倒角壁49。
优选地,锁紧衬套18进一步包括凸缘头部42,其设置于向后电缆容纳端36的凹槽43附近。头部42的外直径大于本体12的内衬套接合表面23的直径,而且头部42包括向前迎面垂直壁44,其用作本体的后端22停靠的邻接表面,以防止衬套18进一步插入本体内。
为了进一步夹紧电缆,优选地,本发明的连接器10进一步包括环形压紧垫圈40,其设置于锁紧衬套18的前端38与连接器本体12之间。特别地,压紧垫圈40优选地位于连接器本体12的后端22内,在电缆接合表面21与衬套接合表面23之间。压紧垫圈40被设计成,当被由锁紧衬套18沿箭头A所示的轴线方向压紧时,径向向内扩张。压紧垫圈40的此径向向内扩张将导致垫圈接合插入到连接器内的电缆的外表面,以进一步将电缆固定至连接器。其次,垫圈40提供众多的密封点,以防止水或其它污染物进入连接器组件10。在这点上,压紧垫圈40优选地由弹性O形环类型的材料制成,例如橡胶弹性体或者诸如此类。
本发明的连接器10可以以图1所示的组装状态供应,其中衬套18和压紧垫圈40被组装到本体12,以容纳同轴电缆。在这样的组装状态下,并且下文将进一步详细描述,同轴电缆可以穿过衬套18的后电缆容纳端36而插入。同样在组装状态下,锁紧衬套18和压紧垫圈40可以根据需要与连接器本体12分开以及重新连接。
还可以预期,衬套18可以与连接器10的其它部分分开设置,其中衬套将滑过同轴电缆的末端,而且同轴电缆将被衬套18畅通无阻地直接插入连接器本体12的电缆容纳端22内。其后,衬套18可以连接至连接器本体12,在此衬套可以由第一位置向将电缆锁定在连接器内的第二位置移动。
详细描述过连接器10的零件之后,参照图3,现在将描述在端接同轴电缆时连接器的使用。同轴电缆60包括内导线62,其由铜或类似的导电材料制成。在内导线62周围延伸的是由合适的绝缘塑料制成的绝缘体64。金属箔片66设置在绝缘体64上方,而且金属护罩68以环绕方式位于覆盖绝缘体的箔片周围。覆盖金属护罩68的是外绝缘护套70。
本发明消除了对于准备电缆末端的需要,特别是当本发明应用于具有整体插头25的连接器时。特别是,不必将护套70向后剥离,以露出护罩68的区域,并随后将护罩向后折到护套上方,本发明仅仅需要将电缆60的末端整齐地切平或者齐平的,从而电缆的所有元件端接于同一个大致垂直的平面。电缆60的方形末端随后被插入到连接器本体12内,从而电缆护套70与螺纹内电缆接合表面21相接触。电缆60和连接器本体12随后相对于彼此反向转动或者扭转,从而电缆接合表面21的螺纹咬合到电缆的外护套70内。
当连接器本体12被螺纹连接到电缆60上,电缆被进一步向前带到连接器本体内,从而柱14的尖锐边缘30在电缆的金属箔片66与金属护罩68之间被驱动。同样在此螺纹连接运动过程中,整体插头25的尖锐边缘33在电缆60的中心导线62与绝缘体64之间被驱动,从而中心导线位于整体插头25的中心孔27中。连接器本体12与电缆60的螺纹连接,一直持续到护套70完全填满柱14与连接器本体之间的环形腔室31,从而阻止电缆相对于连接器本体的任何进一步的轴向移动。
正如可以认识到的,连接器本体12与电缆60之间的螺纹连接运动,在驱动电缆的末端与柱14进行接合的过程中,提供了机械优势。其结果是,将电缆60安装进连接器10内所需的力,以及相关的同轴电缆卡住的可能性,与传统的同轴电缆连接器相比,大大降低了。
一旦电缆60完全插入到连接器本体12内,如果还没有处于适当的位置,锁紧衬套18就会插入本体的电缆容纳端22内,并且沿箭头A所示的方向轴向向前移动,从图1所示的第一位置移动到图2和图3所示的第二位置。这可以利用适当的压力工具完成,或者,在优选实施例的情况下,仅仅利用衬套18的向前螺纹运动来完成。
随着衬套18轴向向前移动,其在电缆的外护套70上提供了额外的压力,将电缆进一步固定在连接器内。如上所述,在优选实施例中,锁紧衬套18对设置在连接器本体内的压紧垫圈40施压,压紧垫圈40向内扩张,在电缆护套70上施加径向压力,以进一步将电缆60固定在连接器10内。
如上所述,本发明也可以结合不采用整体插头的同轴电缆连接器10a,如图4所示。图4所示的同轴电缆连接器10a与图1-3所示的连接器10相同,只是整体插头25和环形绝缘体29已经从柱14上移掉。图4所示的连接器10a的使用也一样,只是在准备同轴电缆60时有轻微的变化。具体地,不是简单地将电缆60的末端切平,(参照图1-3如上所述),电缆的适当长度的中心导线62必须延伸超出电缆末端,以使电缆安装到没有整体插头的连接器10a中。
因此,电缆60插入到图4中的连接器10a中也是一样的,其中,连接器本体12被螺纹连接到电缆的外护套70上,直到护套完全位于本体与柱14之间所形成的环形腔室31内。随着连接器本体12被螺纹连接到电缆60上,柱14的尖锐边缘30将电缆的金属箔片66与金属护罩68分离。在此,然而,电缆60的中心导线62并不位于整体插头内,而是向前延伸进入并且超出螺母16。
作为本发明的,同轴电缆可以安装在连接器内,如图1-3所示,除简单地将电缆末端切平外,无需任何其它准备。该实施例中的同轴电缆连接器在安装连接器之前不需要对电缆末端的任何准备。在柱和引线插头上都有尖锐边缘,当连接器螺纹连接到电缆上时,两尖锐边缘切入电缆并分别与电缆的外导线和中心导线接触。
可选地,在如图4所示的连接器中,与传统的同轴电缆连接器相比,同轴电缆可以用最少的准备来安装。在此,不需要将电缆的末端切平,而是留下超出电缆末端之外的电缆适当长度的中心导线。在这个实施例中,只有柱上具有尖锐边缘,当连接器螺纹连接到电缆上时,该尖锐边缘切入电缆内。
在两个实施例中,连接器本体螺纹连接到电缆护套上,其将电缆拉入连接器中。优选地,在连接器背面也有压紧螺母,在连接器完全螺纹连接到电缆上之后,连接器可以关闭。当压紧螺母螺纹连接到连接器背面时,该压紧螺母压紧密封电缆/连接器的垫圈,防止在连接器背面有水流入。

Claims (19)

1.一种同轴电缆连接器,包括:
连接器本体,具有后电缆容纳端以及限定于所述后电缆容纳端内的内螺纹表面,所述内螺纹表面适于螺纹地接合同轴电缆的外表面;以及

4.根据权利要求3所述的同轴电缆连接器,进一步包括环形压紧垫圈,其位于所述锁紧衬套与所述连接器本体之间,所述压紧垫圈在所述锁紧衬套与所述连接器本体之间的压力下沿径向向内伸展,以夹紧所述电缆的外表面。
5.根据权利要求3所述的同轴电缆连接器,其中,所述锁紧衬套包括外螺纹表面,而且所述连接器本体进一步包括内螺纹衬套接合表面,其与所述衬套外螺纹表面相配合,以有助于所述锁紧衬套在所述连接器本体内的轴向移动。
6.根据权利要求3所述的同轴电缆连接器,其中,所述锁紧衬套以及所述连接器本体包括配合结构,用于将所述锁紧衬套连接至所述连接器本体,当所述衬套位于所述前锁定位置时,所述配合结构防止所述衬套的向后轴向移动。
7.根据权利要求6所述的同轴电缆连接器,其中,所述配合结构包括:形成于所述连接器本体和所述锁紧衬套之一上的凹部,以及形成于所述连接器本体和所述锁紧衬套中另一个上的突起,所述凹部和所述突起包括相对的锁定表面,用于当所述衬套处于所述前锁定位置时,防止所述衬套的向后轴向移动。
8.根据权利要求1所述的同轴电缆连接器,其中,所述连接器本体和所述环形柱包括配合结构,用于允许所述柱在所述连接器本体内的搭扣配合,所述配合结构防止所述柱相对于所述本体的向前轴向移动。
9.根据权利要求8所述的同轴电缆连接器,其中,所述配合结构包括:形成于所述连接器本体和所述柱之一上的凹部,以及形成于所述连接器本体和所述柱之中另一个上的突起,所述凹部和所述突起包括相对的锁定表面,用于防止所述柱相对于所述本体的向前轴向移动。
10.根据权利要求1所述的同轴电缆连接器,其中,所述环形柱进一步包括设置于其中心的引线插头,所述引线插头包括具有形成于其上的中心孔的后端,所述中心孔用于容纳所述同轴连接器的中心导线。
11.根据权利要求10所述的同轴电缆连接器,其中,所述插头的所述后端终止于尖锐边缘,以利于所述插头在所述同轴电缆的所述中心导线与环绕绝缘部分之间的插入。
12.一种用于在连接器中端接同轴电缆的方法,包括以下步骤:
将同轴电缆的端部切平;以及
在所述电缆的平端部上转动所述连接器的连接器本体,从而所述连接器本体的内螺纹表面螺纹地接合护套的外表面,其中,当所述连接器本体在所述电缆末端上转动时,设置在所述连接器本体内的环形柱穿过所述电缆的平端部。
13.根据权利要求12所述的方法,其中,当所述柱插入所述电缆的平端部时,所述环形柱的内引线插头接合所述同轴电缆连接器的所述中心导线。
14.根据权利要求13所述的方法,还包括以下步骤:
当所述柱插入所述电缆的平端部时,利用所述柱内引线插头的尖锐后边缘,将所述电缆的所述中心导线从所述电缆的芯中心绝缘体分离。
15.根据权利要求12所述的方法,还包括以下步骤:将锁紧衬套轴向移动进入所述连接器本体,以将所述电缆锁定在所述连接器中。
16.根据权利要求15所述的方法,还包括以下步骤:在所述轴向移动步骤中,利用所述锁紧衬套压紧压紧垫圈,从而所述压紧垫圈径向向内伸展,夹紧所述电缆。
17.一种用于在连接器中端接同轴电缆的方法,包括以下步骤:
剪切同轴电缆的末端,从而所述电缆的一定长度的中心导线可以从所述电缆的末端延伸一距离;以及
在所述电缆的末端上转动所述连接器的连接器本体,从而所述连接器本体的内螺纹表面螺纹地接合护套的外表面,并且其中,当所述连接器本体在所述电缆末端上转动时,设置于所述连接器本体内的环形柱插入所述电缆的所述末端。
18.根据权利要求17所述的方法,还包括以下步骤:将锁紧衬套轴向移动进入所述连接器本体,以将所述电缆锁定在所述连接器中。
19.根据权利要求18所述的方法,还包括以下步骤:在所述轴向移动步骤中,利用所述锁紧衬套压缩压紧垫圈,从而所述压紧垫圈径向向内伸展,以夹紧所述电缆。
