Description

具有大量多媒体的现代世界为电视观众提供了种类多样以及范围广泛的选项。一般来说,交互式电视是借助电视遥控器或是键盘来控制的。害怕技术的人(通常特征是上了年纪的人)发现多按钮的电视遥控器、键盘以及其他指示设备很难使用。这个难题是由于多种原因,也就是现代遥控器极为复杂而使学习过程受到阻碍、小型按钮不符合人体工程学以及诸如视力差的身体方面的限制等等。因此,本发明提供了一种提供复杂的电视遥控器的用途的替换装置。
本发明针对一种用于便利地管理电视节目以及交互式电视(iTV)应用的方法和系统。特别地,本发明通过为用户提供了一种装置来提供简化的控制系统,以使用诸如在常规电话键盘和/或交互式语音响应系统上发现的常规按钮来选择期望的节目或者在iTV应用中进行导航(navigate)。
该系统包括用于传送用户的节目请求的输入设备,以及能够产生命令信号的远程服务器,所述命令信号指示用户以交互方式所选择的节目。输入设备可以是常规电话单元、无线电话或交互式语音响应系统。观众向远程服务器发起呼叫连接,并且经历鉴定过程,然后以交互方式选择节目。与电视单元或者电视单元的接收机进行通信的远程系统传送命令信号,用于显示用户所选择的节目或者在iTV应用中进行导航。
图1是能够根据本发明的示例性实施例来管理电视节目的系统的简化图示;

在下文的描述中,出于简明和清楚而不是限制目的,省略公知设备、电路和方法的详细描述,以免以不必要的细节与本发明的描述相混淆。
参考图1,本发明的优选实施例是遥控系统,该遥控系统能够通过借助电话机10来向电视机2发布命令信号,从而管理多个电视节目。如图1中所示,电视机2被配置来接收来自常规电视(TV)广播商4和/或因特网内容供应商(或服务器)的音频/视频编程和数据信号。TV节目可以借助任何传输手段而以模拟、数字或数字压缩的格式进行递送,其中所述传输手段可以包括卫星、无线、电缆、有线以及万维网。可替换地,电视机2也可以被耦合到接收机9或者机顶盒,以便借助那些承载视频编程或iTV应用的高速线路、RF、常规调制解调器或双向电缆而从特定的万维网服务器接收因特网内容。所有输入信号都会被电视机2或是接收机8所接收,以便进行显示。应注意的是,处于本公开的上下文内的接收机包括交互式TV/机顶盒或是任何双工交互设备。在可替换的实施例中,电视机2也可以直接被耦合到电信服务器20。一般来说,电信服务器2是可以经由常规的PSTN或是无线连接来进行访问的远程计算机系统。
图2描述了图1中所示的电信服务器20的呼叫处理器22,该呼叫处理器22对本发明的操作步骤进行控制。在操作中,主叫方使用电话10发起电话呼叫,该呼叫经由电话网络6被路由到电信服务器20。应该注意的是,也可以使用无线电话来取代常规电话单元。来自电话网络6的数据则经由常规电话线路而被提供给呼叫处理器22。此外,呼叫处理器22还会接收和分析所拨打的号码以及其他网络数据和/或交换数据等等。呼叫处理器22使用交互式语音响应(IVR)系统或是利用相关联的电话线来发起连接,由此可以将呼叫呈交给IVR24,以便进行通信或是初始问候。对本领域技术人员来说,IVR系统是众所周知的,因此省略说明。此后,呼叫处理器22指示IVR24(借助按键音、语音识别26或是其他机制)进行查询,以便通过将主叫方信息与数据存储器28中所保存的数据相匹配来对主叫方进行验证。如果无法鉴定主叫方,那么呼叫处理器22可以丢弃该呼叫连接。如果主叫方已被鉴定,那么呼叫处理器22通过使用IVR24或者诸如实时服务(live agent)之类的其他机择来与主叫方进行交互,以便请求频道选择或者用户所期望的其他选项。然后,呼叫处理器22向接收机8或TV2发送控制信号,以便改变主叫方所请求的频道。
图3描述了可被用于发送与用户的期望选择相对应的信号的典型电话单元的键盘系统。应该注意的是,主叫方也可以发送语音信号来发布期望的命令。
在正常模式中,接收机8或者电视单元2会通过不同的介质来接收TV节目流,所述不同的介质包括电缆服务供应商、圆盘式卫星电视天线以及常规的RF广播。如果观众希望在不使用复杂的遥控系统的情况下改变频道或者导航交互式电视应用,则他或她可以向电信服务器20发起电话呼叫。电信服务器20会对来自用户的输入呼叫进行处理,并且通过与用户进行交互而促使接收机8或电视单元2改变用于显示的输入节目。举例来说,在连接之后,为主叫方提供选择列表,以便进行频道选择。如果用户希望收看电视节目“Jeopardy”,那么用户可以选择按钮1。用户也可以通过按下电话键盘中预先规定的按钮来浏览频道选项列表。通过这种方式,收看TV节目的用户可以选择广播商服务器所提供的期望节目。此外,箭头按钮2、4、6和8可被用于浏览可供收看的不同节目的列表,而按钮5可被用于选择期望的选项,诸如记录当前正在收看的任何一个电视节目或是后续显示的任何将来的节目。

图4描述了依照图1中所示的示例性实施例的接收机系统8的图示表达。接收机8包括控制器112、MPEG解码器113、检测器114、硬盘驱动器115、视频处理器116、频道切换器117、存储器118以及回放部分119。应该注意的是,MPEG解码器113也可以遵循其他MPEG标准,例如遵循MPEG-1、MPEG-2、MPEG-4以及MPEG-7。控制器112监视接收机8的所有操作,其中包括观看模式、记录模式、播放模式以及常规机顶盒中共有的其他模式。
在操作模式中,接收机8通过多种介质来接收TV节目流25,这些介质包括电缆服务供应商、圆盘式卫星电视天线以及常规的RF广播。在正常模式期间,输入的TV节目是在控制器112的控制下显示的。同时,控制器112还会促使MPEG解码器113解码输入的TV信号,然后,检测器114会对经过解码的TV信号进行监视,以便检测各种控制信号。经过解码的TV信号被转发到回放部分119,以便在电视机2中进行显示,或者,该信号可被保存在硬盘驱动器115中,以便对其进行后续检索,如果从电信服务器20中接收到这样的命令信号的话。如果从电信服务器20中接收到频道变更命令,那么频道切换模块117改变当前频道,以便收看相应的TV节目。
由此,对用于管理多个TV节目的方法和系统的优选实施例已进行了描述,但对本领域技术人员来说,很明显,该系统的某些优点已被实现。上述内容仅仅应该被解释成是本发明的示范性实施例。在没有脱离本发明的基本原理或范围的情况下,本领域技术人员很容易就可以想到提供与本实施例相类似的功能的替换方案。
Claims (21)
1.一种用于管理多个节目的方法,该方法包括以下步骤:
提供呼叫处理器,该处理器接收用户借助键盘设备所发出的节目请求;
与键盘设备建立通信信道,以便产生指示用户所期望的节目的命令信号;以及
将所述命令信号传送到电视单元,以便显示用户所期望的节目。
2.权利要求1的方法,还包括以下步骤:一旦建立了通信信道,则对用户进行鉴定。
3.权利要求1的方法,其中,所述命令信号包括将特定节目存入存储介质的信号。
4.权利要求1的方法,其中,多个节目包括电视网络、因特网、无线网络以及有线网络或是这些网络组合中的至少一个。
5.权利要求1的方法,其中,通信信道是通过电话线路连接建立的。
6.权利要求1的方法,其中,通信信道是通过无线连接建立的。
7.权利要求1的方法,其中,节目显示是响应于所述用户的输入而以交互方式提供的。
8.权利要求1的方法,其中,节目显示是响应于所述用户的语音输入而以交互方式提供的。
9.一种用于管理多个节目的系统,包括:
输入设备,该输入设备具有用于传送用户的节目请求的键盘,以及
控制器,用于产生指示用户以交互方式所选择的节目的命令信号以及将所述命令信号传送到接收机,以便进行显示。
10.权利要求9的系统,其中,所述控制器还提供可供用户选择的节目列表。
11.权利要求9的系统,还包括用于显示用户所选择的节目的显示设备。
12.权利要求9的系统,其中,所述显示设备被配置来接收输入的电视节目。
13.权利要求9的系统,其中,所述控制器被配置来对用户进行鉴定。
14.权利要求9的系统,其中,所述输入设备包括多个按钮,以便有选择地传送所述命令信号。
15.权利要求9的系统,其中,所述接收机是电视单元。
16.权利要求9的系统,还包括存储设备,用于存储代表与输入电视节目相对应的多个节目的数据。
17.权利要求9的系统,其中,多个节目包括电视网络、因特网、无线网络以及有线网络或是这些网络组合中的至少一个。
18.权利要求9的系统,其中,输入设备还包括语音响应设备,用于以交互方式传送用户的节目请求。
19.一种用于管理多个节目的系统,包括:
用于存储计算机可读代码的存储器;以及
以可操作的方式被耦合到所述存储器的处理器,所述处理器被配置来:
接收由用户借助键盘设备所发出的节目请求;
与所述键盘设备建立通信信道,以便以交互方式产生命令信号,该信号反映的是用户所期望的节目;以及
将所述命令信号传送给显示单元,以便显示用户所期望的节目。
20.权利要求19的系统,其中,所述控制器还被配置来在建立通信信道的时候对用户进行鉴定。
21.权利要求19的系统,其中,多个节目包括电视网络、因特网、无线网络以及有线网络或是这些网络组合中的至少一个。
