Abstract
一种提供遍布涵盖率及无缝连接给装置的方法及系统,无论何种无线存取技术可得,其均可经由第三代(3G)蜂巢及IEEE802.11宽频局域网络(WLAN)技术来支持网际网络存取。
Description
技术领域
本发明有关无线通信领域,且更特别是,本发明是有关无线局域网络(WLAN)及蜂巢网络的整合。
背景技术
目前,双模装置是被构思经由宽阵列的不同无线存取技术来支持网际网络存取。该目的是提供无论无线存取技术是否可用的遍布涵盖率及无缝连接。
图1显示包含双模移动终端105的传统双模移动终端系统100。″双模″涉及的两个模式是顺从IEEE802.11的网络及顺从第三代(3G)标准之一或更多的网络。双模移动终端105可经由(1)IEEE802.11空气界面上的IEEE802.11存取点/路由器设备115,或(2)经由3G空气界面的3G全球陆上无线存取网络(UTRAN)基站120。
由于架构差异,该传统系统100相关困难处是并无共有控制实体来管理IEEE802.11及3G无线网络间的实际交换处理。此导致各网络的交换控制功能间的相关复杂性。例如,从IEEE802.11网络转换无线连接至3G网络所需的配位及逻辑是明显异于从3G网络转换无线连接至IEEE802.11网络所需者。注意此意义的交换亦可被视为信元再选择或再结合。所需者为无缝及简单促成不同无线存取技术间的无线连接的系统及方法。
另一问题是802.11存取装置需要来自具有对网际网络的专用陆上中继线的802.11存取点的服务。当802.11存取点无法获得时,网际网络服务是不被提供至802.11存取服务。因为802.11存取点通常不提供遍布涵盖率,所以移动使用者通常可存取网际网络服务。再者,以特定配置方案提供对802.11存取点的网际网络连接的专用陆上链路装设及维持是很昂贵。在这些例中,需要陆上链路的替代者。
发明内容
并入802.11存取技术(如结合/再结合处理)的蜂巢终端提供802.11存取装置的3G连接。本发明使无线装置具有不同类型无线存取技术上的无线服务/连接,其可促进网际网络服务的移动性及遍布涵盖率。

具体实施方式
虽然较佳实施例是以使用IEEE802.11及3G无线存取技术的较佳系统来说明,但本发明较广义型式是被设想亦可无限制地应用至其它传输系统。
图2显示包含整合IEEE802.11终端130(此后被称为终端130)的系统130。终端130包含IEEE802.11存取点(AP)/路由器132(此后被称为AP132)及3G无线传输/接收单元(WTRU)134(此后被称为WTRU134),其是经由界面136被彼此耦合。终端130是经由3G空气界面140被与3G全球陆上无线存取网络138(此后被称为UTRAN138)耦合,且经由IEEE802.11空气界面144被与IEEE802.11WLAN存取装置142(此后被称为存取装置142)耦合。
此后,无线传输/接收单元包括但不受限于使用者设备,移动站,固定或移动用户单元,呼叫器或任何可操作于无线环境中的其它类型装置。此后被称为基站的,是包括但不受限基站,节点-B,地址控制器,存取点或无线环境中的其它接介装置。
本质上,系统150可串联而非并联两界面,如WLAN AP及3G使用者设备(UE)。因为各空气界面是逻辑独立(也就是不需要共同控制实体),因此不会被其它者影响(也就是各空气界面运作彷佛其它空气界面不存在)。例如,不需协调各无线存取技术间的交换(也就是IEEE802.11至3G或反之亦然)。3G空气界面140上的交换可被穿透处理至IEEE802.11空气界面144。整合AP132/WTRU134例子中,WLAN连接被建立,其可动态促使3G连接被建立及/或分配实际资源。
系统150可执行从存取装置142经由3G空气界面140转变至3G蜂巢连接的标准IEEE802.11结合或再结合处理。再结合是被使用于存取点为被服务组识别号(SSID)于主动或被动扫描处理期间得知的相同延伸服务组(ESS)部份时。否则,不同服务组识别号是被得知而新结合是被激活。存取装置可产生包含基本服务组识别号(BSSID)(也就是MAC ID)的结合要求(AR)及正规对应为部份延伸服务组的存取点群组。各AP是依赖包含该AP唯一相关识别号(也就是逻辑连接识别号)的相关反应。
存取装置142是借由标准IEEE802.11主动或被动扫描方法来实现该终端130。当使用被动扫描时,存取装置142可从一个或更多AP接收一个或更多信标传输。信标频道可识别如存取点基本服务组识别号及服务组识别号的特定类型系统信息。当使用主动扫描时,安全位准被提供借此存取点的服务组识别号不被发送于该信标频道。存取装置142可产生可指示存取点的预先配置服务组识别号的探测要求。当存取点具有预先配置服务组识别号时,其可接收具有探测反应的探测要求确认接收。
有若干依据本发明操作终端130的替代实施例。一替代实施例中,动态分配被执行,借此标准IEEE802.11逻辑(如结合,再结合,分隔)是被用来建立或打开3G连接。另一替代实施例中,3G连接是以动态或永久分配实际资源被事先(也就是连续)建立。
如此后详细说明,当移动使用者漫游于可提供如网际网络专用陆上终端的特定服务的IEEE802.11WLAN涵盖率区域外侧时,终端130可提供对网际网络的存取。存取装置142可自动再结合该终端130而不需任何定作软件或硬件。可替代是,存取装置142总可使用终端130,因而不需提供具有专用陆上网际网络终端的一个或更多IEEE802.11AP。
图3显示依据本发明一较佳实施例操作的系统200。系统200包含可促进不同无线存取技术间的无缝网际网络连接的整合IEEE802.11终端220(此后被称为终端220)。系统200进一步包含IEEE802.11WLAN存取装置205(此后被称为存取装置205),IEEE802.11AP/路由器210(此后被称为AP210),网际网络215及3G UTRAN225(此后被称为UTRAN225)。终端220包含IEEE802.11AP/路由器230(此后被称为AP230)及3G WTRU235(此后被称为WTRU235),其是经由界面238被彼此耦合。终端220是经由3G空气界面250被与3G UTRAN225(此后被称为UTRAN225)耦合,且经由IEEE802.11空气界面245被存取装置205耦合。存取装置205最初经由路径240被与AP210结合。终端220被激活借由人工开启存取装置205及致动网际网络存取特征(如借由使用者要求/输入)和借由自动侦测IEEE802.11存取装置结合程序来建立如网际网络215的对外部网络的3G空气界面连接。标准IEEE802.11验证及数据加密保全特征可被并入来控制未被授权存取。存取装置205可为膝上型电脑,个人数字助理(PDA)或类似者。
3G蜂巢连接被WTRU235激活。服务类型,封包域及其它连接方面是被使用者预先配置或人工要求。WTRU235及UTRAN225可人工或自动激活对网际网络215建立正规3G连接。一旦被建立,该3G蜂巢连接可穿透存取装置205。存取装置205可借由标准IEEE802.11主动或被动扫描方法来实现该整合终端。
分隔存取装置205或预先配置停顿定时器暂停时,3G蜂巢连接可被终端220打开以响应IEEE802.11存取装置分隔程序的自动侦测或自动暂停或停顿定时器。可替代的是,3G蜂巢连接可被使用者人工干预打开以响应关闭装置或瘫痪网际网络存取特征。任一例中,对网际网络215的3G空气界面连接被打开。
存取装置205可激活经由路径245结合或再结合终端220。终端220可认出存取装置205并经由3G空气界面250建立3G蜂巢无线连接。
类似处理是从终端220至标准AP210的结合或再结合。经由IEEE802.11空气界面245与终端220分隔,或停顿定时器的暂停或相同延伸服务组内的再结合时,经由3G空气界面250对UTRAN225的连接被打开。
一实施例中,终端220可建立对UTRAN225的永久连接促成″永久开启″服务,如无线区域回路(WLL),或促进IEEE802.11服务供应者及3G蜂巢服务供应者间的快速交换。此例中,3G无线存取网络(RAN)连接是被预先建立。终端220提供连续IEEE802.11存取链路。存取装置205可行使一般IEEE802.11主动/被动扫描及结合/再结合处理。
此实施例可被实施使3G无线存取网络使用者数据无线承载于IEEE802.11与终端220结合之前或侦测存取装置205时被预先建立。3G无线资源是于传输数据存在实现所需基础上被3G无线网络控制器(RNC)动态分配,或被静态指定于该存取装置被与AP结合期间。IEEE802.11及3G涵盖区域可能部份重叠而比邻涵盖。可替代是,IEEE802.11及3G涵盖实际上可分隔。涵盖区域间的距离并无限制。IEEE802.11及3G涵盖区域可被共同放置以提供冗余。通常,IEEE802.11服务区域是″热点″(也就是″岛″)。服务是被一个或更多3G蜂巢系统提供于这些IEEE802.11服务区域之间。各3G服务区域可能重叠至少一IEEE802.11服务区域。
图4显示依据本发明一实施例的传送若干网际网络协议数据服务的系统300。系统300包含整合IEEE802.11终端305,其类似终端220,除了其合并网际网络协议应用处理器330(此后被称为处理器330)及AP230及支持复数个IEEE802.11WLAN存取装置310,315及3G UTRAN320(此后被称为UTRAN320)。实际频道的共同组提供连接终端305至UTRAN3203G的空气界面325上的传输。网际网络协议数据被提供至处理器330,其实施终端305内的层3网际网络协议转换,其可使终端305内的若干独立存取装置及/或网际网络协议应用被同时支持。
系统150及200(图2及图3)中,网际网络协议路由器功能不被执行。系统300中,AP230可将网际网络协议数据封包转换为外部802.11存取装置310,315或终端305内部的网际网络协议应用。功能被添加至终端305而非AP230。例如,终端305可为具有提供网际网络服务(″网际网络协议应用″)能力的3G移动蜂巢终端。即使支持一个或更多802.11存取装置的网际网络连接时,此仍可被达成。基于网际网络协议地址,数据是被Ap230往返传送多重IEEE802.11WLAN存取装置310,315及终端305内部的网际网络协议应用。
终端305一次可被与若干存取装置310,315(膝上型电脑,个人数字助理等等)结合。各存取装置310,315的结合及分隔是独立处理。各存取装置310,315可具有被共同无线资源支持的共同或独立3G无线存取网络及/或无线承载。终端305内的网际网络协议路由器功能可使若干独立网际网络协议数据流被指定至3G无线连接的实际频道共同组支持。
图5为执行″永远开启″频道建立程序的信号流程图,借此系统150的终端130(被显示于图2)被耦合UTRAN138及存取装置142。一旦终端130被致动(步骤50),3G连接被建立(步骤53)于终端130及UTRAN138之间。整合存取点/3G终端130可建立对存取装置142的指针频道(步骤52)。存取装置142可借由标准IEEE802.11主动或被动扫描方法来实现该整合终端(步骤51)。使用者验证(步骤54)可被选择性实施。3G无线承载可与3G连接建立程序(步骤53)或与结合/再结合(步骤55)一起被建立。实际无线资源是被静态指定于无线承载建立时或被动态分配于通信业务数据抵达(网际网络协议封包)时(步骤58)。通信业务数据是经由整合终端130被传输/接收(步骤57)于存取装置142及UTRAN138之间。
图6为实施事件序列实施例的信号流程图,借此系统200的终端220(被显示于图3)是被耦合UTRAN225及存取装置205。一旦终端220被致动(步骤60),802.11指针频道被建立。存取装置205可借由标准IEEE802.11主动或被动扫描方法来认出整合802.11存取点/3G终端220(步骤61)。使用被动扫描时,存取装置205可接收来自终端220的指针传输(步骤62)。使用者验证(步骤63)可被选择性实施。侦测802.11的整合终端220结合或再结合程序(步骤64)时,整合终端220可建立终端220及UTRAN225间的3G连接及无线承载(步骤65)。通信业务数据是经由终端220被传输/接收(步骤66)于存取装置205及UTRAN225之间。3G实际无线资源是被动态分配于通信业务数据抵达(网际网络协议封包)时(步骤67)或静态指定于无线承载建立时。
虽然在此被称为整合AP/3G终端者可被视为IEEE802.11网络的网络的AP架构拓扑,但其亦可建立不涉及AP的IEEE802.11″AdHoc″网络。此例中,存取装置或″站″可同样被与3G使用者终端整合。

Claims (30)
1.一种促进无缝网络连接的无线系统,包含:
(a)整合终端,包含:
(i)第一存取点(AP);及
(ii)经由第一界面被耦合至该AP的无线传输/接收单元(WTRU);
(b)经由第二界面被耦合至该整合终端的全球陆上无线存取网络(UTRAN);及
(c)经由第三界面被耦合至该整合终端的至少一无线局域网络(WLAN)存取装置。
2.如权利要求1所述的无线系统,其特征在于该UTRAN提供经由该第三界面存取外部网络给该整合终端。
3.如权利要求2所述的无线系统,其特征在于进一步包含:
(d)经由第四界面被耦合至该无线局域网络(WLAN)存取装置的第二AP,其中该WLAN存取装置提供经由该第三及第四界面存取该外部网络给该整合终端。
4.如权利要求3所述的无线系统,其特征在于该第二,第三及第四界面的每一个是无线界面。
5.如权利要求2所述的无线系统,其特征在于该外部网络是网际网络。
6.如权利要求1所述的无线系统,其特征在于该WTRU及UTRAN人工或自动建立对该外部网络的第三代(3G)连接。
7.如权利要求6所述的无线系统,其特征在于该WLAN存取装置是借由标准IEEE802.11主动或被动扫描方法来实现该整合终端。
8.如权利要求6所述的无线系统,其特征在于该3G连接是于预先配置停顿定时器暂停时被放开。
9.如权利要求6所述的无线系统,其特征在于该3G连接是永久被建立以一贯性提供服务或促进使用不同无线存取技术的服务提供者间的快速交换。
10.如权利要求1所述的无线系统,其特征在于各该第二及第三界面的每一个是与不同无线存取技术结合且彼此逻辑独立。
11.如权利要求1所述的无线系统,其特征在于该整合终端是依据IEEE802.11说明书来操作。
12.如权利要求1所述的无线系统,其特征在于该WLAN存取装置是依据IEEE802.11说明书来操作。
13.如权利要求1所述的无线系统,其特征在于该第二存取点是依据IEEE802.11说明书来操作。
14.如权利要求1所述的无线系统,其特征在于该UTRAN是依据3G说明书来操作。
15.如权利要求1所述的无线系统,其特征在于该WTRU是依据3G说明书来操作。
16.如权利要求1所述的无线系统,其特征在于该WLAN存取装置是膝上型电脑。
17.如权利要求1所述的无线系统,其特征在于该WLAN存取装置是个人数字助理(PDA)。
18.如权利要求1所述的无线系统,其特征在于该整合终端进一步包含被耦合至该第一AP的网际网络协议(IP)应用处理器以促进该整合终端内的若干独立存取装置及/或IP应用被同时支持。
19.一种促进无缝网络连接的无线系统,包含:
(a)整合终端,包含:
(i)使用第一类无线存取技术的第一存取点(AP);及
(ii)使用第二类无线存取技术的无线传输/接收单元(WTRU);
(b)经由第一无线界面被耦合至该整合终端的第一无线传输装置,该第一无线传输装置是使用该第一类无线存取技术来提供经由该第一无线界面存取该网际网络给该整合终端;及
(c)经由第二无线界面被耦合至该整合终端的至少一第二无线传输装置,该第二无线传输装置是使用该第二类无线存取技术来提供经由该第二无线界面存取该网际网络给该整合终端,其中该第一及第二无线界面是彼此逻辑独立。
20.如权利要求19所述的无线系统,其特征在于该第一类无线存取技术是依据3G说明书来操作。
21.如权利要求19所述的无线系统,其特征在于该第二类无线存取技术是依据IEEE802.11说明书来操作。
22.如权利要求19所述的无线系统,其特征在于该第一无线传输装置是全球陆上无线存取网络(UTRAN)。
23.如权利要求22所述的无线系统,其特征在于该WTRU及UTRAN人工或自动建立对该外部网络的第三代(3G)连接。
