Abstract
一种液晶显示器(LCD)装置,包括:光学传感器,用于检测液晶面板的光量;电压设置单元,根据光学传感器检测的光量设置输入到像素上的电压。此外,电压设置单元包括:参考数据存储单元,用于存储各颜色的参考数据;比较单元,用于比较由光学传感器检测的光量和存储于参考数据存储单元中的参考数据;以及设置电压输出单元,通过计算用于补偿由比较单元所比较的值之间的差别的数据,来设置输入到像素上的电压。检测液晶面板的光量,以便根据光量来自动调整输入到液晶面板上的电压。
Description
本申请基于2002年5月30日提交的韩国专利申请第2002-30252号,在此将其并入作为参考。
技术领域
本发明涉及一种液晶显示装置,特别涉及一种可根据发射的光量,自动调整驱动电压的液晶显示器(LCD)。
背景技术
目前,随着诸如个人数字助理(PDA)、掌上电脑以及便蜂窝电话等移动设备的广泛使用,硅液晶(LCOS)显示器作为移动设备的微型显示装置随之而发展。
颜色顺序R+(红)、G+(绿)、B+(蓝)、W+(白)、R-(红)、G-(绿)、B-(蓝)和W-(白)按照预定的时序,在LCOS显示器的一个帧中显示。
由于发射特性随R、G、B颜色的波长的不同而不同,因此,为了优化LCOS显示器的颜色设置,必须为每种颜色波长设置优化电压。因此,需要将R+、G+、B+、W+、R-(红)、G-(绿)、B-(蓝)和W-(白)的不同电压输入到每一帧中。
对于正常黑操作和正常白操作,LCOS显示器需要独立电源。
图1是示出用于产生传统LCOS显示器的公共电极电压(Vcom)的电路的原理图。
用于产生Vcom电压的电路包括电源单元10、复用器20和缓冲器30。
电源单元10包括与LCOS显示器所需要的独立电源相对应的多个可调电阻R1到Rn。可调电阻R1到Rn被单独设置并输出不同的电压,其范围从5.2V到5.2V。根据4位选择信号a、b、c和d,复用器20把从电源单元10输入的电压输出到缓冲器30。
在传统的LCOS显示器中,可根据面板状态,通过手工调节多个可调电阻来调整Vcom电压。这样调整图像质量效率低,而且精确度不高,而材料成本却高。
发明内容
本发明的目的是要解决至少上面提出的问题和/或缺点,并提供至少下文中描述的优点。
因此,本发明的一个目的是通过提供一种可根据发射的光量,自动调整驱动电压的液晶显示器(LCD),来解决上述问题。
前述的以及其它的目的和优点,可通过提供一种具有液晶面板的LCD来实现,所述的液晶面板含有根据每种颜色输入不同电压的多个像素,该LCD包括:光学传感器,用于检测液晶面板的光量;以及电压设置单元,用于根据光学传感器检测的光量,来设置输入到像素上的电压。
此外,电压设置单元包括:参考数据存储单元,用于存储每种颜色的参考数据;比较单元,用于比较由光学传感器检测的光量和存储于参考数据存储单元中的参考数据;以及设置电压输出装置,通过计算用于补偿由比较单元所比较的值之间的差别的数据,来设置将被输入到像素上的电压。
最好是,该LCD还包括钳位单元,用于钳位在预定周期内由光学传感器检测的值。
最好是,该LCD还包括用于颜色顺序来输出颜色选择信号的驱动器,其中,根据从驱动器输入的颜色选择信号,来输出由电压设置单元来设置的电压。
本发明的其它优点、目的、和特点,一部分将在随后的描述中提出,一部分将依赖下面的检验而使本领域的普通技术人员能够清楚,或从本发明的实施中被认识。本发明的目的和优点可以如所附权利要求中特别指出的那样被实现和获得。

具体实施方式
参考附图,下面将详述根据本发明的优选例。
图2是一般LCOS显示器的单位像素的原理图。
该LCOS显示器具有以1408×884矩阵结构排列的单位像素,如图2所示。
在每个单位像素中,通过晶体管FET1切换来自电源的电流Is,脉宽调制(PWM)电压生成与像素值(8位数据)相对应的PWM波形。
每个单位像素包括多个晶体管和电容,并需要电压来驱动晶体管,以及对电容进行充电和放电。
参考标记Ss为充电电压,用于通过逐行像素扫描,将输入图像充电到电容C1。
Sc1为放电电压,用于在完成当前行的数模转换后、准备扫描下一行的像素时,对电容C0和C1进行放电。
Sc2为放电电压,用于在显示当前帧之后、发送下一帧之前,对施加到电容C2的电压1进行放电。
图3是示出LCOS显示器所需的电压的时序图。
下面,参考图2和3,将描述单位像素的操作。
对于正帧(+帧),在每一像素中执行数模转换,以便把输入图像充电到与Ss相关的C1中,并且,对所有行都充入输入图像,然后,Sc2打开,对已显示的前一帧的每个像素的液晶电压VLC进行放电。
接着,St被打开,这样,整个图像数据都被传送,并且,应用当前帧的液晶电压。
对于负帧(帧),在每一像素中,根据已转换的图像数据,来执行数模转换,以便把输入图像充电到与Ss相关的C1中,并且,对所有行都充入输入图像,然后,Sc2打开,对已显示的前一帧的每个像素的液晶电压VLC进行放电。
接着,St被打开,这样,整个图像数据都被传送,并且应用当前帧的液晶电压。
参考图3,将描述Vcom电压。
Vcom电压也称为铟锡氧化物(ITO)电压,要求精确,以便能正确地在面板上显示黑或白。
Vcom电压按正或负帧而应用,如图3中所示,并由交流电流来驱动,以防止液晶(LC)面板的停滞(stick)现象。VLC-Vcom电压实际上被应用于LC面板的每个像素上。
如图3中所示,Vcom电压需要多个独立电压,如A、B、C、D、E、A’、B’、C’、D’和E’。
需要这些独立电压,以便分别显示为R+、G+、B+、黑+、白+、R-、G-、B-、黑-和白-。
在正常黑色模式中,A=-0.8V,B=-2.0V,C=-2.2V,D=-1.9V,E=5.0V,而A’=4.8V,B’=5.0V,C’=5.2V,D’=4.9V,E’=-5.0V。
R+、G+、B+、黑+和白+分别被倒置为R-、G-、B-、黑-和白-的电压。
图4是根据本发明的微型显示装置的方框图。
该微型显示装置包括驱动器11、光学传感器12、钳位单元13、电压设置单元15、D/A转换器16、缓冲器17以及液晶面板18。
驱动器11,按照R+、G+、B+、W+、R-、G-、B-、W-的颜色顺序,把颜色选择信号发送至电压设置单元15。
光学传感器12测量液晶面板18的亮度,以便把已测出的亮度值发送到钳位单元13中。
通常,在一个垂直同步周期(1/60秒)内处理8帧,且在1帧内处理8个颜色顺序。因此,钳位单元13在大约0.2毫秒的时间周期内钳位输入光亮度值,以便根据液晶面板18的图像信号,产生亮度值的直流电流值,并把该值输出至电压设置单元15。
电压设置单元15大体包括微处理器,其根据来自钳位单元13的输入图像信号的亮度值和从驱动器11输入的颜色选择信号,来设置将应用于液晶面板的像素的优化Vcom电压。
电压设置单元15包括参考数据存储单元152、比较单元152和设置电压输出单元153组成。
参考数据存储单元151为每种颜色存储参考数据。
比较单元152将存储于参考数据存储单元151中的参考数据和由光学传感器12检测的光的亮度值进行比较。
通过计算用于补偿由比较单元152所比较的值之间的差别的数据,设置电压输出单元153设置将应用于像素上的电压。
例如,当存储于参考数据存储单元的、与来自驱动器11的颜色选择信号相对应的颜色相符合的灰度电平是128,且从钳位单元13输出的值为200时,图像就比当前显示的颜色更明亮,因此就输出一个较低的电压。
而且,已计算的优化Vcom电压输出至D/A转换器16。
D/A转换器16转换输入信号,从D/A转换器16输出的D/A转换的信号被存储于缓冲器中,以便被输出到液晶面板18。
根据本发明的LCD,检测来自液晶面板的光量,根据光量来调整应用于液晶面板的电压,以便进行驱动电压的自动调整。
此外,在现有技术中必须的可调电阻器,在本发明中却不需要,因此,该LCD可以更低成本制造。
在进行批量生产时,图像质量调整可在无手工处理调整的条件下进行,因而允许有效、快速的批量生产。
虽然,已经参照本发明的某个优选实施例显示和描述了本发明,但是本领域的技术人员应当理解,在不脱离所附权利要求所限定的本发明的范围和精神的情况下,可以在形式和细节上做出各种改动。
前述的实施例和优点只是示范性的,不能被曲解为对本发明的限制。本原理可以被容易地应用到其它类型的装置上。本发明的描述意图是例证性的,并非对权利要求的范围进行限制。许多替代、修改和变化对于本领域的技术人员来说是很显然的。在权利要求中,装置加功能的描述意图覆盖在这里描述的、用于执行所述的功能的结构,不但包括结构的等价体,而且包括等价的结构。
Claims (4)
1.一种具有液晶面板的液晶显示器(LCD),含有根据多种颜色的每一种而输入不同电压的多个像素,该LCD包括:
光学传感器,用于检测液晶面板的光量;以及
电压设置单元,根据光学传感器检测的光量,来设置输入到像素上的电压。
2.如权利要求1所述的LCD,其中,电压设置单元包括:
参考数据存储单元,用于存储每种颜色的参考数据;
比较单元,用于比较由光学传感器检测的光量和存储于参考数据存储单元中的参考数据;
设置电压输出单元,通过计算用于补偿由比较单元所比较的值之间的差别的数据,来设置输入到像素上的电压。
3.如权利要求1所述的LCD,还包括钳位单元,用于钳位预定周期内由光学传感器检测的液晶面板光量值。
4.如权利要求1所述的LCD,还包括用于根据颜色顺序输出颜色选择信号的驱动器,其中,根据从驱动器输入的颜色选择信号,来输出。由电压设置单元设置的电压。
