本发明涉及通用遥控装置和相关可遥控设备领域。
通用遥控装置(URC)被广泛用于从单个元件控制多于一个的可遥控设备,而不是每个设备一个单独的遥控器。设备、装置或器具如电视、录像机或DVD播放器的制造商们经常在设备中包含URC,并提供关于如何对URC编程以控制另外设备的说明书,尤其当另外的设备是不同品牌时。为了对URC编程以控制另外的设备,用户一般必须使用说明书中的纸装查找表,或遵循书面的用法说明,该用法说明有时候指示用户在编程过程中使用URC上的液晶显示器(LCD)或其它显示器。用户常常会丢失说明书,并且在其它时候遵循书面的用法说明时有困难,这往往由于对一些类型设备的许多可能的品牌和样机编程的复杂性而不可避免地变得很复杂。
发明概述
根据本发明,提供了一种方法和装置,允许用户通过遵循由遥控装置显示的菜单或合成的语音对URC编程,比如TV、VCR或其它能产生显示或语音的可遥控设备。这种技术的一些好处在于它使用户从显示器得到视觉反馈或从语音发生器得到声音反馈,从而使URC编程过程更加容易。本发明使得即使在忘记把说明书放在什么地方时编程也很容易,能够节省制造商打印说明书的需求,并且避免在URC上制造LCD显示器的必要性。

优选实施例详述

参考图1,在可遥控设备的安装菜单中,在此以电视举例说明,例如,提供了菜单项10,显示给用户。按下URC上适当的按钮将出现一个菜单,例如,显示“按下你想控制设备的设备键并保持。”对于只设计有单个转换键或机械开关用来选择设备类型的URC,关于怎样使URC进入一个期望类型设备编程模式的适当指示将显示在TV上,例如,对VCR。当用户选择一个设备之后,URC进入“编程”模式并且也向电视发射一个信号,例如IR码,来关闭循环并激活下一个菜单。电视显示一个确认11表示已经成功进入URC编程例程并且TV进入了其对所选设备的URC例程12,例如,VCR(见例程13)。下一个菜单(例程14)可以通过从头到尾浏览一个可能的VCR品牌列表提示用户选择VCR的品牌。例如,该例程可以包括以下内容:

当接收到指示数字的代码时,电视从存储器中召唤14一个以所选字母开始的可用VCR品牌列表,例如“A到C”,并且随后电视屏幕将提示,例如:

这个过程一直持续到选择了一个明确的品牌名称15。
一旦选择了品牌名称,URC发送该代码序列的确认信息返回给接收器,通过一个屏幕显示消息来确认。例如,“你已经选择了Sony品牌的VCR”。
也可能需要选择辅助码类型,因为由于历史和品牌交叉的考虑不同的供应商会使用不同的代码。这可以通过菜单向导的方法进行选择,同上。如果有关于品牌名称的不确定性,确认屏幕将显示,
你已经选择了RCA品牌的VCR
你还需要试试代码的一些格式。17
(或者电视显示器可以检索16所选类型和品牌设备的所有可用格式。)
请按指示的键并检查设备是否有响应(例如用于VCR的“播放”,或用于电缆箱的“打开信道”)。
为了指示正确的代码,按键并保持3秒钟
一旦发现一个明确的代码,URC将向电视发送一个“确认”代码。电视可以提示用户保存所选择的格式20。然后URC可以向电视发送成功的信号,使电视退出编程模式18,这可以由电视来确认,并且这可以使电视退出交互例程19。
显然有必要使URC的编程算法必须与接收器钟的菜单内容“同步”。代码查找表基于“查看”由显示器描述的按键序列。
以下的实例是一个实施例,其中第一设备是VCR,并且URC被编程来控制作为不同设备的TV。一旦进入URC编程模式并且TV被选为进入URC进行编程的设备,菜单或声音可以显示:

然后URC向VCR发送一个消息前进到下一个屏幕或声音菜单,可以显示
“为了验证URC将操作你的TV,按VOLUME UP或DOWN(对将被编程的所选择品牌最通用的代码)。如果TV有响应,则按URC上的OK。”
响应从URC接收到的信号,VCR将清除屏幕显示(OSD)并显示消息,例如,
“如果TV没有响应,按CH UP前进到下一个代码。”
URC将前进到所选品牌下一个最通用的表并且重复验证过程。
一旦URC已经对所选品牌的所有表从头到尾前进了一遍,可以发送一个代码到VCR显示一个消息表明所选品牌的所有代码都已经试过了。
尽管本发明已经进行了详细的描述并联系实现其的最佳模式举例说明,对本领域的技术人员来说,很显然在不背离本发明主旨和范围的情况下可以有各种其它的实施例、可选方法和改进措施。

Claims (9)

1、一种对通用遥控装置进行编程的方法,包括如下步骤:
提供带显示器或声音合成器的第一可遥控设备和手持式通用遥控装置,该通用遥控装置被预先编程以便控制所述第一设备而且可以由用户进行编程来控制另外多种类型、品牌和模式的设备;
提供所述带遥控编程模式的第一设备,该遥控编程模式包括一个响应从所述遥控装置接收到的按键信号而提供给所述用户的菜单,而且该菜单指导用户对所述遥控装置编程以便控制另外的设备;
由所述第一设备显示或通过声音产生一个第一菜单,供用户选择一种类型的设备;
根据从所述遥控装置接收到的第一按键信号,由所述第一设备选择所述类型的设备,并显示或通过声音产生第二菜单,列出所选择的类型的设备的品牌名称;
根据从所述遥控装置接收到的第二按键信号,由所述第一设备从所述第二菜单中选择一个品牌名称,并显示或通过声音产生第三菜单,指导用户在所述遥控装置中激活一个按键;
每次按下该按键,就从所述遥控装置发送对应于所选品牌的所选类型的不同模式的一个控制信号;和
由所述第一设备从所述遥控装置接收一个指示编程完成的按键信号。
2、权利要求1中的方法,其中所述带显示器或声音合成器的第一可遥控设备包括一个被编程为提供编程信息的微处理器。
3、权利要求1中的方法,其中当所述通用遥控装置被成功地编程为控制另外的设备时,由所述第一设备和/或遥控装置产生显示或声音信息,确认所述成功的编程。
4、权利要求1中的方法,其中所述第一和不同的设备选自包括电视、录像机、电缆箱、高保真音响系统、卫星解码器、数字化视频光盘播放器和DBS接收器的组合。
5、一种对通用遥控装置进行编程的系统,包括
所述通用遥控装置;及
带显示器或声音合成器和遥控编程模式的第一可遥控设备,该编程模式由一系列响应从所述遥控装置接收到的按键信号而显示或由声音产生的选择菜单组成,
该遥控装置预先被编程为控制所述第一设备并且可以由用户通过响应选择菜单而按键来编程控制一个或多个另外的设备,所述第一设备响应来自所述遥控装置的第一按键信号显示或通过声音产生一个第一菜单,列出设备的类型,并选择一个类型,并响应来自所述遥控装置的第二按键信号显示或通过声音产生一个第二菜单,列出所选类型的品牌名称,并选择一个品牌名称,显示或通过声音产生一个第三菜单,指导用户在所述遥控装置中激活一个按键,且每次按下该按键,所述遥控装置就发送对应于所选品牌的所选类型的不同模式的一个控制信号。
6、权利要求5中的系统,其中所述通用遥控装置有可以被按下以产生所述第一和第二按键信号的的键。
7、权利要求5中的系统,其中所述通用遥控装置是声音激活的。
8、权利要求5中的系统,其中所述第一设备产生指导用户通过逐步交互式过程对所述遥控装置编程以控制所述一个或多个另外的设备的提示。
9、权利要求5中的系统,其中所述第一和另外的设备选自包括电视、录像机、电缆箱、高保真音响系统、卫星解码器、数字化视频光盘播放器和DBS接收器的组合。
