Abstract
电连接器包括具有多个端子接纳槽的绝缘外壳。多个端子沿插入方向插入该些槽。端子在其对置侧面有相反于插入方向暴露的工具接合面,以便由适当端子接合工具接合。端子具有向外间隔且向内面对的保持面以便与外壳的向外面对的保持面接合并形成压配合和将端子保持在外壳内。不需要将端子保持在外壳内的围绕壁。
Description
发明领域
本发明一般涉及电连接器技术,特别是具有多个按给定深度插入并保持在外壳中的端子的电连接器。
发明背景
一般,电连接器包括绝缘外壳,它装有多个端子以便与电子装置相互连接。端子一般有接触部和连接部。例如,接触部与配合的连接器的互补接触部接合。连接部可连接到导体或印刷电路板的线路上。在后者情况下,连接部可包括插入印刷电路板的孔中的焊接尾部以便将尾部连接到电路板的线路上和/或连接在孔中。另外,焊接尾部包括柔性尾部以便在板孔中形成压配合。
设计安装在电路板的上述特征的连接器经常遇到各种问题。例如,端子有在电路板孔内形成压配合的柔性尾部时,在外壳上必需提供可靠的止动件以限制端子的插入深度。如没有这样的可靠止动件,电路板中的柔性尾部的压配合将迫使端子比所需要的更进一步进入外壳。
设计这样的连接器时,特别是在连接器外壳中保持端子方面还遇到其它各种问题。通常,在端子和外壳之间提供某种保持装置以防止端子插入后从外壳退出。例如,端子经常利用压配合插入端子接纳槽,从而端子保持在槽中。其它的装置,如倒刺可用于切入槽壁以便将端子锁定在其内。
通过压配合将端子保持在外壳槽内的问题是外壳必需有足够的支承壁以适应插入力。随着电连接器的不断小型化和其引起的端子高密度排列,时常很难在绝缘连接器外壳内提供足够的支承壁以承受所需的力。通过使用独特的端子/外壳结构,本发明旨在解决各方面的问题,该端子/外壳结构在端子上不仅提供由插入工具接合的足够的装置还在外壳上提供止动装置以限制端子插入深度,但是,端子保持在外壳中而没有关于外壳围绕壁的压配合。
发明概述
本发明目的是提供上述特征的新的改进电连接器。
在本发明解释性实施例中,电连接器包括绝缘外壳,它具有多个端子接纳槽。多个沿插入方向插入该些槽的端子。每个端子有接触部或端和连接部或端。至少一个端子有一对从其相对侧凸出的L形翼板。每个L形翼板限定从端子向外凸出并大体横向于上述插入方向的第一腿和大体沿上述插入方向从第一腿的外端凸出的第二腿。第一腿有相反于插入方向暴露的工具接合面以便由适当端子接合工具接合。第二腿有间隔的并向内面对端子的内侧保持面。上述外壳有向外面对端子的保持面以便形成与端子L形翼板的第二腿内侧保持面的压配合。因此,消除了与外壳围绕壁形成的压配合。
最后,端子L形翼板的第一腿有朝插入方向的止动面以便与外壳上互补的止动肩接合并限定端子的插入深度。根据端子插入外壳所要求的深度,对于上述端子的不同深度,外壳在不同深度处有上述止动肩。
结合附图和下面所作的详细说明中,本发明的其它目的,特征和优点是明显的。

优选实施例的详细说明
详细参阅附图,首先参阅图1和2,体现本发明的电连接器10有绝缘外壳12。该外壳是伸长的并且限定配合面12a和连接面12b。插座14自外壳向前突出以形成配合面和接纳沿箭头A插入该插座的互补配合连接器的插头部分(未示出)。一对外壳的侧槽16将配合的连接器引导到配合位置中。一对金属接地触点18(图2)设置在槽16内;接地触点有板锁定部18a。外壳是由如塑料等绝缘材料均匀模制成的单一件结构。
参考图3-5和图1和2,多个端子22和24沿连接器外壳12的长度方向装在两行端子接纳槽19中。如图所示,端子成对地沿连接器长度方向安装,每一对有端子22和24。端子22在此称为“内”端子;而端子24称为“外”端子,因为其连接部分或焊接尾部的内部定位和外部定位,如下面说明。内端子和外端子沿连接器长度方向以每一交替的成对端子交替设置,从而两行成对的端子确定了四行端子尾部,如图3所示。端子沿箭头方向B插入槽191。
如图4和5所示,每一内和外端子22和24分别是伸长的并且分别包括接触部或接触端22a和24a以及连接部或连接端22b和24b。端子有中间本体部分26。端子可由金属导体片材冲压成形。连接部22b和24b相对插入方向B与接触部22a和24a分离。因此,通过沿连接器长度方向对置定位地交替设置成对的端子可形成四行连接部,如图3所示。连接部确定端子尾部以便插入印刷电路板的适当的孔中。尾部在尾部的扩大部分有孔以提供可在电路板孔内形成压配合的柔性尾部。
仍参考图4和5,每个内和外端子22和24分别有一对L形翼板28,它们从端子相对的侧突出。每一L形翼板限定端子的向外凸出的第一腿30,它大体横向于插入方向B(图3)。每一L形翼板28还限定第二腿32,它沿插入方向从第一腿30的外端凸出。第一腿30有相对插入方向暴露的工具接合表面34以便由适当的端子接合工具接合。第二腿32有内侧保持面36,它们相互间隔并向内面对相应的端子。第一腿30有面对插入方向的表面38,如下说明,它们限定止动面,从而确定端子的插入深度。
参考图7和图4和5,绝缘外壳12有一对与每个端子相连的内保持壁40。当端子沿箭头B方向插入外壳时,该内保持壁与内端子22的L形翼板28的内侧腿32接合(图7)。保持壁40有面向外的保持面42,它们相对L形翼板28的内侧腿32定位以便与内行端子的内侧保持面36(图4和5)压配合。换句话说,每对壁40的面向外的保持面42之间的间隔略微大于相应端子成对腿32的内侧保持面36之间的间隔,从而在端子和外壳间形成压配合以防止端子相反于插入方向B从外壳退出。这样,腿32切入壁40,或者,当腿32与壁40接合时它们向外弯曲,或者是两者之某些结合。从上述说明可理解为了在外壳中保持端子,没有所需围绕端子22的壁。实际上,从图7可看出没有存在于相邻端子的腿32之间的外壳壁部分。因此,端子可以按照比需要围绕壁以将端子保持在外壳内的设计更加紧密的间隔设置。由于L形翼板28必需从端子向外凸出以提供工具接合表面34,这一“不动产”仅用于提供端子的保持装置。
图8表示在外行中的一对端子24。虽然外壳形成有在端子之间的壁部分44,可以看出端子的腿32甚至没有与这些外侧壁部分接合。与端子22相同,由于端子内侧保持面36和外壳壁40的外侧保持面42间的压配合,端子24保持在外壳内。因此,壁部分不必具有足够的尺寸和/或强度以便将端子保持在外壳内。但是,这些壁部分确实给外壳提供了附加的刚性。
图7和8表示止动面38(图4和5)与在外壳壁40远端边缘处的止动肩46接合。止动面38和止动肩46的接合确定了端子的插入深度。从图7和8可以看出对于不同深度的端子外壳的止动肩46处于不同的深度。
本发明的其它特征是端子22b,24b的末端以较轻的力或预载荷与塑料外壳接合。这基本上是为了在将连接器压在印刷电路板的过程中任何端子移动这种可能性较小的情况下,保证接触口22a,24a正确定位。
应理解在不脱离本发明的精神或中心特征的情况下该发明可体现为其它的具体形式。因此,现有实例和实施例在各个方面被视为举例说明而非限制,本发明并不局限于在此所给予的细节。
Claims (13)
1.一种电连接器包括:
绝缘外壳,它具有多个端子接纳槽;
多个沿插入方向插入该些槽的端子,每个端子有接触部和连接部,每个端子有一对从其相对侧凸出的L形翼板,每个L形翼板限定从端子向外凸出并大体横向于上述插入方向的第一腿和大体沿上述插入方向从第一腿的外端凸出的第二腿,每个第一腿有相反于插入方向暴露的工具接合面以便由适当端子接合工具接合,每个第二腿有间隔的并向内面对端子的内侧保持面;和
上述外壳有向外面对端子的保持面以便形成与端子内侧保持面的压配合。
2.按权利要求1的电连接器,其中上述至少一个端子由金属导体片材冲压成形。
3.按权利要求2的电连接器,其中上述端子连接部沿插入方向与上述工具接合面共面。
4.按权利要求3的电连接器,其中上述端子连接部包括柔性部以在印刷电路板的孔中压配合。
5.按权利要求2的电连接器,其中上述端子连接部和接触部大体横向于插入方向相互分离。
6.按权利要求1的电连接器,其中上述L形翼板的第一腿有朝插入方向的止动面以便与外壳上互补的止动肩接合并限定端子的插入深度。
7.按权利要求6的电连接器,其中根据端子插入外壳所要求的深度,对于上述端子的不同深度,上述外壳在不同深度处有上述止动肩。
8.一种电连接器包括:
绝缘外壳,它具有多个端子接纳槽;
多个沿插入方向插入该些槽的端子,每个端子是伸长的并由金属导体片材冲压成形,每个端子有接触端和连接端,每个端子的接触端和连接端大体横向于插入方向相互分离,上述端子连接端包括柔性部以在印刷电路板的孔中压配合,每个端子有一对从其相对侧凸出的L形翼板,每个L形翼板限定从端子向外凸出并大体横向于上述插入方向的第一腿和大体沿上述插入方向从第一腿的外端凸出的第二腿,第一腿有相反于插入方向暴露的工具接合面以便由适当端子接合工具接合,第二腿有间隔的并向内面对端子的内侧保持面,上述端子连接部沿插入方向与上述工具接合面共面;和
上述外壳有向外面对每一端子的保持面以便与每一相应端子内侧保持面接合。
9.按权利要求8的电连接器,其中上述L形翼板的第一腿有朝插入方向的止动面以便与外壳上互补的止动肩接合并限定端子的插入深度。
10.按权利要求9的电连接器,其中根据端子插入外壳所要求的深度,对于上述端子的不同深度,上述外壳在不同深度处有上述止动肩。
11.一种电连接器包括:
绝缘外壳,它具有多个端子接纳槽;
多个沿插入方向插入该些槽的端子,每个端子是伸长的并由金属导体片材冲压成形,每个端子有接触端和连接端,每个端子的接触端和连接端大体横向于插入方向相互分离,上述端子连接端包括柔性部以在印刷电路板的孔中压配合,每个端子有至少一个从其相对侧凸出的L形翼板,每个L形翼板限定从端子向外凸出并大体横向于上述插入方向的第一腿和大体沿上述插入方向从第一腿的外端凸出的第二腿,第一腿有相反于插入方向暴露的工具接合面以便由适当端子接合工具接合,第二腿有间隔的并向内面对端子的内侧保持面,上述端子连接部沿插入方向与上述工具接合面共面;和
上述外壳有向外面对每一端子的保持面以便与每一相应端子内侧保持面接合。
12.按权利要求11的电连接器,其中每一L形翼板的第一腿有朝插入方向的止动面以便与外壳上互补的止动肩接合并限定端子的插入深度。
13.按权利要求12的电连接器,其中根据端子插入外壳所要求的深度,对于上述端子的不同深度,上述外壳在不同深度处有上述止动肩。
