Description

Hinge for window or door
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a window or door with a hinge leaf having an associated attachment with an adjustable thickness for lateral adjustment of the window or door.
The remainder of the description will mainly discuss windows, it being understood that this also applies to doors and vice versa.
In order to mount the rotatable hinge of the window in the fixed frame of the window, a hinge is used, and it is known that the hinge is formed of two hinge leaves, which are fastened to the leaf and the fixed frame by means of the hinge leaves, so that the hinge parts are hingedly connected together by means of a hinge pin.
When mounting the hinge in the fixed frame, it is important that the lateral position of the hinge in the fixed frame can be adjusted to enable easy opening and closing of the door or window without tightening and to enable easy operation of the closing mechanism without pinching.
Background
From BE 1.016.414 and BE 1.022.089, corresponding to EP 2.993.290, it is known to have an accessory that can BE used for this purpose with adjustable thickness, which, when installing a window or door, is fixed between the hinge and the profile of the window or door to which the hinge is fastened, in particular between the profile and the hinge leaf, by means of which the hinge is mounted to the profile.
This known type of attachment consists of two plate-like parts which are fixed to each other by one side and each of which is provided on this side with a wedge-shaped relief with a wedge-shaped element, so that when the two parts with wedge-shaped teeth are moved relative to each other in the longitudinal direction of the teeth, the plate-like parts are moved apart, so to speak, so that the thickness of the attachment can be adjusted.
In this way, the thickness of the accessory can be adjusted between a minimum thickness, in which the wedge-shaped teeth interlock to the greatest extent, for example, over the entire height or depth of the teeth, and a maximum thickness, in which the teeth interlock less deeply.
In known embodiments, the facing contact sides of the hinge leaf and the attachment are flat to allow them to move relative to each other for lateral adjustment.
In this case, the minimum overall thickness occupied by the hinge leaf together with the accessory in the mounted condition in the notch between the fixed frame and the hinge of the window is equal to the sum of the thickness of the hinge leaf and the above-mentioned minimum thickness of the accessory.
The greater the minimum overall thickness of the hinge leaf and attachment, the less the available adjustment distance for lateral adjustment for a given notch depth, the effect imposed by the required strength of the hinge.
Conversely, for a given adjustment distance, the smaller the available depth of the notch, the smaller the minimum overall thickness and therefore the smaller the thickness of the hinge leaf and/or of the accessory, and therefore the weaker the permissible maximum load guaranteed by the hinge and the hinge, for example due to the weight of the leaf of the window.
In the known hinge this leads to the disadvantage that in the design a choice between a larger adjustment distance or a stronger hinge or a compromise between the two is required.
This difficult option occurs mainly in fastened hinges with a shaft visible on the outside of the window and a hinge leaf which is not visible in the slot between the fixed frame and the hinge in the closed state of the window.
In this type of hinge, the problem is that there is usually not enough space for a sufficiently strong hinge, i.e. in combination with the desired lateral adjustment range.
Disclosure of Invention
It is an object of the present invention to provide a solution to one or more of the above and other drawbacks and problems.
To this end, the invention relates to a hinge for windows or doors having a hinge leaf with an associated attachment for mounting between the hinge leaf and a profile of the window or door to which the hinge leaf is fixed, wherein the thickness of the attachment is adjustable for lateral adjustment of the window or door, the attachment consisting of two substantially plate-like parts, respectively a first part which in the mounted state is in contact with the hinge leaf, and a second part which in use is fixed to each other by one side and is provided on that side with interlocking complementary teeth which are such that the thickness of the attachment increases or decreases in the direction perpendicular to the hinge leaf when the two parts are slid in opposite directions to each other longitudinally along the teeth in the sliding direction, wherein in the mounted state of the hinge the attachment is between the hinge leaf and the profile, the hinge leaf and the plate-like first part of the attachment in contact therewith are provided on facing sides with protrusions and complementary recesses which are mutually locked by the protrusions and complementary recesses, characterized in that the recesses in the first part of the attachment are provided in the thickness of the teeth of the first part.
According to the invention, the hinge leaf and the attachment are interlocked such that the minimum overall thickness of the hinge leaf together with the attachment in the mounted state is smaller than in the known hinge mounted with flat sides opposite each other in the mounted state.
This means that, for an unchanged adjustment range of the thickness of the attachment, more space is left in the notch between the fixing frame and the hinge of the window, so that there is more space to be able to apply a thicker and therefore stronger hinge, compared to the known hinges with attachment.
Also, for the case of a hinge with a constant thickness, accessories with a greater adjustment range can be applied.
The free space can of course also be used for stronger hinge hinges, and for a greater adjustment range.
Preferably, the protrusions and recesses are formed as ribs and grooves extending transversely to the sliding direction of the attachment and preferably over the full width of the hinge leaf and the attachment.
Preferably, the projection and the recess interlock without play or with only a limited play fit in the sliding direction, so that the hinge and the first component of the attachment cannot be unintentionally moved relative to each other and relative to the hinge of the fixed frame of the window during lateral adjustment of the position.
According to the invention, the recess in the first part of the accessory is provided within the thickness of the teeth of the toothing of the first part.
The maximum space gain in favor of the hinge strength or adjustment range can be obtained with an accessory in which the height of the teeth of the two plate-like parts is approximately equal to or slightly less than the thickness of each part taken alone.

Detailed Description
Fig. 1 shows a part of a window 1, comprising a section bar 2 of the fixed frame of the window 1 and a section bar 3 of the hinge of the window 1, which section bars 2 and 3 are hinged by means of a hinge 4, which hinge 4 consists of two hinge leaves 6 and 7, which hinge leaves 6 and 7 are connected together by means of a hinge pin 8 at the level of the hinge knuckle 5 of the hinge.
The hinge 4 is fixed to the section bars 2 and 3 by means of screws 9, which screws 9 pass through the screw passages in the hinges 7 and 8 in the above-mentioned section bars 2 and 3.
In this case the window is of the type in which the hinge knuckle 5 with the hinge pin 8 of the hinge 4 is visible on the outside of the window 1 and the hinge leaves 6 and 7 are fastened to the profiles 2 and 3 in the closed window 1, hidden in the slot 10 or closed space between the profile 2 of the fixed frame and the profile 3 of the hinge.
In the example of fig. 1, the hinge leaf 7 is provided with a recess for the second hinge leaf 6 in the closed state of the hinge 4.
The hinge 4 comprises a substantially plate-like appendix 11 of known type, in this case the appendix 11 being mounted between the hinge leaf 6 and the section bar 3.
The known attachment 11 consists of two substantially plate- like elements 11a and 11b, respectively a first element 11a which, in the mounted state, is in contact with the hinge leaf 6, and a second element 11b by means of which the attachment 11 is fixed to the profile 3.
In use, the two parts 11a and 11b are fixed with one side relative to each other, so that this side is provided with interlocking complementary wedge-shaped teeth, respectively 11c and 11D, the adjustable thickness D of the appendix 11 increasing or decreasing in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the hinge leaf 6, or in other words in a direction perpendicular to the flat lower side of the appendix 11, when the two parts 11a and 11 slide longitudinally (X-X') along the teeth in a sliding direction relative to each other.
In this example, the attachment is oriented so that the sliding direction X-X' is parallel to the longitudinal direction of the profiles 2 and 3 and therefore also to the axis of the hinge pin 8.
Fig. 4 shows the situation in which the teeth of the two parts 11a and 11b of the accessory 11 are maximally interlocked, which results in the minimum thickness Dmin of the accessory 11, whereas in the situation of fig. 3 the parts 11a and 11b slide maximally relative to each other in the sliding direction X-X ', the result of the maximum thickness of the accessory 11 being Dmax, so that the teeth 11c and 11d of the two parts still have to overlap sufficiently in the sliding direction X-X' to have a sufficient bearing surface between them.
The result of the adjustment range is Δ D = Dmax-Dmin.
The minimum thickness Dmin of the attachment 11 is, in the case of the drawing, mainly determined by the height or thickness of the tooth portions 11c and 11d measured in a direction perpendicular to the lower plane of the attachment 11.
By adjusting the thickness D of the appendix 11, it is possible to adjust the transverse distance E of the section bar 3 of the hinge with respect to the section bar 2 of the fixed frame, as indicated by the double arrow P in fig. 2, and in between:
minimum distance Emin, as shown in figure 4,
and a maximum distance Emax, as shown in figure 3,
where Emax is equal to the maximum total thickness of the joint of hinge 6 and appendix 11:
Emax=Dmax+F。
the maximum total thickness Emax of the hinge 6 and the attachment 11 is limited by the available space 10, which available space 10 is fixed between the section bar 2 of the frame and the section bar 3 of the leaf, and more specifically by the available distance a between the section bars 2 and 3, so that in the design of the known application of fig. 2 to 4, it is necessary to choose between:
-limiting the maximum thickness Dmax of the appendix 11 at the expense of the adjustment range of the appendix 11;
limiting the thickness F of the hinge leaf 6 at the expense of the strength of the hinge leaf 6 and the load-bearing capacity of the hinge 4;
-or a combination thereof.
The invention aims to create more space, facilitating a greater adjustment range Δ D and/or a greater thickness F of the hinge leaf 6.
This is achieved by the combination of the hinge leaf 6 according to the invention and the attachment 11 as shown in fig. 5 to 8, whereby in this case, in the mounted state of the hinge 4, the hinge leaf 6 and the plate-shaped first part 11a of the attachment 11 in contact therewith interlock over a certain depth K, as shown in the figures, unlike the known case of fig. 1 to 4, in which the hinge leaf 6 and the attachment 11 are fixed to one another by flat sides.
In the embodiment of fig. 5 to 8, this is achieved by providing a projection 12 in the form of a rib on the facing side of the hinge leaf 6 and the first part 11a of the attachment 11, which projection 12 fits in a complementary recess 13 in the form of a groove in the first part 11a of the attachment 11.
The rib 12 and the groove 13 extend transversely along the width of the hinge leaf 6 and of the appendix 11, in a direction Y-Y 'perpendicular to the sliding direction X-X' of the appendix 11.
In this example, this rib 12 has a thickness corresponding to the thickness K of the overlapping portion between the hinge leaf 6 and the appendix 11, and a width B practically corresponding to the width of the groove 13.
The recess 13 in the attachment 11 is provided in the material of the teeth of the tooth portion 11c of the first part 11a of the attachment, more specifically within the thickness or height of this tooth portion 11c, whereby preferably a recess 13 is provided in each tooth of the tooth portion 11 c.
Preferably, the thickness of the teeth 11c and 11d of the two plate- like parts 11a and 11b is substantially equal to the thickness of each individual part, and preferably substantially equal to the minimum thickness Dmin of the accessory 11, apart from a small thickness.
The projections 12 in fig. 6 produce a bulge in the form of a rib and thus strengthen the hinge leaf 6, at least to the extent that the projections produce an extra thickness K relative to the hinge leaf 6 of fig. 4 without the projections.
The recess 13 in the attachment 11 causes weakening of the attachment 11 at a constant thickness Dmin, but still obtains sufficient support in combination with the reinforced hinge leaf 11.
The invention still provides the advantage of stiffening the hinge 4 for a same minimum thickness Dmin and a same minimum overall thickness Emin of the appendix 11.
Fig. 8 shows an alternative embodiment, in which the minimum overall thickness Emin of the hinge leaf 6 together with the attachment is in this case the same as that of fig. 4, but this time in combination with the attachment 11 having the greater minimum thickness Dmin and the greater adjustment range Δ D, at the slight expense of the strength of the hinge leaf 11, since in this case the projection 12 is obtained by a locally reduced thickness of the hinge leaf 6 relative to that of fig. 4.
Preferably, a guide, not shown in the figures, is provided in the sliding direction X-X' of the appendix 11, which guide is provided on the level of the hinge 4 or of the appendix 11 or of the section bar 2.
According to an embodiment not shown, the appendix 11 can be provided with a plurality of complementary teeth 11c and 11d, extending in the transversal direction of the appendix 11, adjacent to each other in the sliding direction X-X ', and sliding with respect to each other in the longitudinal direction X-X' over a distance smaller than the pitch of the teeth 11c,11d, so that the above-mentioned guidance can be achieved on the level of the appendix 11 itself.
It will be understood that the hinge leaf 6 and the appendix 11 can be provided with a passage in the form of a slotted hole for the aforementioned screw 9, to allow the mutual displacement of the parts 11a and 11b of the appendix 11 with respect to each other during the lateral adjustment of the hinge.
It is also clear that the protrusions 12 and recesses 13 do not necessarily have to be embodied as ribs and grooves, but can have any interlocking form.
It goes without saying that the accessories can also be mounted on the section bar 2 of the fixed frame, instead of on the section bar 3 of the hinge.
The invention is in no way limited to the embodiments described as examples and shown in the drawings, however, such a hinge with associated accessories can be implemented according to different variants without departing from the scope of the invention.
