背景技术
电致发光显示装置包括以矩阵形式排列的像素,并且通过使包括在像素中的发光元件发光来显示图像。电致发光显示装置根据与图像数据对应的数据电压来控制图像的亮度,并且具有诸如亮度均匀性低和在低亮度部分中的余像的画面质量劣化的问题。
发明内容

图1是示出根据本公开内容实施例的电致发光显示装置的框图,并且图2是示出电致发光显示装置的像素的示意性配置的视图。
参照图1,根据本公开内容的电致发光显示装置可包括DBV调节器10、定时控制器20、占空比调节器30、功率调节器40、伽马调节器50、面板驱动器60和显示面板70。
显示面板70包括像素阵列,其中以交叉方式排列多条信号线,并且以矩阵形式设置像素PXL。
如图2所示,每个像素PXL可以包括发光元件、驱动元件和EM元件。发光元件可以实现为有机发光二极管或无机发光二极管,并且驱动元件和EM元件可以实现为基于硅或氧化物的晶体管。驱动元件可以是内部补偿元件,其中自动补偿诸如阈值电压的驱动特性,但是本公开内容不限于此。EM元件可以包括连接到输入高电平源电压EVDD的输入端子的EM元件1和连接到发光元件的EM元件2,但是本公开内容不限于此。每个像素PXL可进一步包括至少一个开关元件和电容器,用于反映驱动元件的栅-源电压中的阈值电压。
像素PXL可以包括红色像素、绿色像素、蓝色像素和白色像素。包括红色像素、绿色像素、蓝色像素和白色像素的四个像素可以构成用于颜色表示的单元像素。由单元像素表示的颜色可以由红色像素、绿色像素、蓝色像素和白色像素的发射比确定。同时,可以从单元像素中省略白色像素。
像素阵列可以包括用于向像素PXL提供数据电压Vdata的数据线、用于向像素PXL提供栅极信号的栅极线、以及用于向像素PXL提供高电平源电压EVDD的第一电源线。像素阵列可以进一步包括用于向像素PXL提供初始化电压的第二电源线。
面板驱动器60可以包括连接到显示面板70的数据线的数据驱动器和连接到显示面板70的栅极线的栅极驱动器。
数据驱动器可以包括将从定时控制器20接收的输入图像数据转换为数据电压Vdata的数模转换器(DAC)。DAC参考由伽马调节器50调节的伽马电压串的输出电压范围,将输入图像数据转换为伽马补偿电压,并将伽马补偿电压提供给数据线作为数据电压Vdata。数据驱动器将由功率调节器40生成的高电平源电压EVDD提供给第一电源线,并将由功率调节器40生成的初始化电压提供给第二电源线。同时,由功率调节器40调节的低电平源电压EVSS可以不经过数据驱动器而直接提供给像素PXL,或者可以通过数据驱动器和附加电源线提供给像素PXL。
数据驱动器可以以芯片的形式制造,然后直接安装在显示面板70的非显示区域上,或者可以制造为集成电路(IC),然后通过导电膜接合到显示面板70。
栅极驱动器生成栅极信号并将栅极信号提供给栅极线。栅极信号可以包括施加到每个像素PXL中所包括的开关元件的扫描信号和施加到每个像素PXL中所包括的EM元件的发射信号。扫描信号用于选择像素PXL,其中将在一个方向上以行为单位充电数据电压Vdata。发光信号用于确定一帧中的像素PXL的发射时段。
栅极驱动器在占空比调节器30的控制下调节发射信号的脉宽调制(PWM)。发光元件的发射占空比与发射信号的PWM占空比一致。
栅极驱动器可以通过板内栅极驱动器(GIP)工艺与像素阵列一起直接形成在显示面板70的非显示区域中,或者可以被制造为IC,然后通过导电膜接合到显示面板70。
定时控制器20从主机系统接收输入图像的数字数据和与该数字数据同步的设置定时信号。设置定时信号包括垂直同步信号Vsync、水平同步信号Hsync、数据使能信号DE等。主机系统可以是电视(TV)系统、机顶盒、导航系统、DVD播放器、蓝光播放器、个人计算机(PC)、家庭影院系统和电话系统中的任何一种,但是本公开内容不限于此。
定时控制器20基于设置定时信号Vsync、Hsync和DE生成用于控制数据驱动器的操作定时的数据定时控制信号和用于控制栅极驱动器的操作定时的栅极定时控制信号,并将其传输到面板驱动器60。
DBV调节器10根据用户输入来输出具有不同值的亮度数据,以调节由显示面板70实现的屏幕的亮度。亮度数据可以是与预设亮度带对应的显示亮度值(DBV)。从DBV调节器10输出的DBV可以通过定时控制器20传输到占空比调节器30、功率调节器40和伽马调节器50。
占空比调节器30根据DBV调节发光元件的发射占空比,即,发射信号的PWM占空比。功率调节器40根据DBV调节要施加到像素PXL的低电平源电压EVSS。由于相关地调节发光元件的发射占空比和低电平源电压EVSS,所以可以提高图像质量,并且可以在实现屏幕亮度的整个亮度时段中实现平滑和自然的亮度变化。
伽马调节器50根据DBV调节伽马电压串的输出电压范围。由于与发光元件的发射占空比和低电平源电压EVSS相关地调节伽马电压串的输出电压范围,因此在实现屏幕亮度的整个亮度部分中可以进一步提高图像质量。
图3是示出与图2相对应的具体像素电路的示例的视图。
参照图3,根据本公开内容实施例的像素PXL包括有机发光二极管(OLED)、多个薄膜晶体管(TFT)T1至T6与DT、以及存储电容器Cst。TFT T1至T6和DT可以实现为基于低温多晶硅的p沟道TFT,以确保期望的响应特性。然而,本公开内容的技术精神不限于此。例如,开关TFT T1至T6中的至少一个可以实现为具有优异的截止电流特性的基于氧化物的n沟道TFT,而其余的TFT可以实现为具有优异的响应特性的基于低温多晶硅的p沟道TFT。
OLED是根据驱动电流发光的发光元件。OLED的阳极连接到节点N4,并且其阴极连接到被施加有低电平源电压EVSS的输入端。在阳极和阴极之间设置有机化合物层。
驱动TFT DT是根据栅-源电压控制流过OLED的驱动电流的驱动元件。驱动TFT DT包括连接到节点N2的栅电极、连接到节点N1的第一电极和连接到节点N3的第二电极。
第一开关TFT T1是连接在数据线14和节点N1之间并且根据第n扫描信号SCAN(n)进行切换的开关元件。第一开关TFT T1的栅电极连接到被施加有第n扫描信号SCAN(n)的第n第一栅极线15a(n),其第一电极连接到数据线14,并且其第二电极连接到节点N1。
第一EM TFT T2是EM元件,该EM元件连接在第一电源线17和节点N1之间,并根据第n发射信号EM(n)进行切换,并且是发射控制晶体管。第一EM TFT T2的栅电极连接到被施加有第n发射信号EM(n)的第n第二栅极线15b(n),其第一电极连接到第一电源线17,并且其第二电极连接到节点N1。
第二开关TFT T3是连接在节点N2和节点N3之间并根据第n扫描信号SCAN(n)进行切换的开关元件。第二开关TFT T3的栅电极连接到被施加有第n扫描信号SCAN(n)的第n第一栅极线15a(n),其第一电极连接到节点N3,并且其第二电极连接到节点N2。
第三开关TFT T4是连接在节点N2和第二电源线16之间并根据第(n-1)扫描信号SCAN(n-1)进行切换的开关元件。第三开关TFT T4的栅电极连接到被施加有第(n-1)扫描信号SCAN(n-1)的第(n-1)第一栅极线15a(n-1),其第一电极连接到节点N2,并且其第二电极连接到第二电源线16。
第二EM TFT T5是EM元件,该EM元件连接在节点N3和节点N4之间,并根据第n发射信号EM(n)进行切换,并且是发射控制晶体管。第二EM TFT T5的栅电极连接到被施加有第n发射信号EM(n)的第n第二栅极线15b(n),其第一电极连接到节点N3,并且其第二电极连接到节点N4。
第四开关TFT T6是连接在节点N4和第二电源线16之间并根据第n扫描信号SCAN(n)进行切换的开关元件。第四开关TFT T6的栅电极连接到被施加有第n扫描信号SCAN(n)的第n第一栅极线15a(n),其第一电极连接到节点N4,并且其第二电极连接到第二电源线16。
存储电容器Cst连接在第一电源线17和节点N2之间。
图3所示的像素PXL可以依次通过初始化时段、采样时段、发射时段和PWM驱动时段来操作。
在初始化时段中,将节点N2复位为初始化电压Vinit,并且浮动节点N1和N3的电压变为低于高电平源电压EVDD的特定电压。
在采样时段中,驱动TFT DT的阈值电压被采样并存储在节点N2和N3中。驱动TFTDT的栅-源电压成为驱动TFT DT在采样时段中的阈值电压。
在发射时段中,OLED根据流过驱动TFT DT的驱动电流而发光。
在PWM驱动时段中,驱动电流的流动被切断,并且OLED的发射停止,因为EM TFT T2和T5被关断。根据一帧中的PWM驱动时段的持续时间来确定发射占空比(或EM占空比)。当OLED以确定的发射占空比重复地导通和关断时,在低灰度级表示时使余像降到最低程度。
本公开内容的技术精神并不限于图3所示的像素PXL的结构。应注意,本公开内容的技术精神可以应用于其中可以调节发射占空比(或EM占空比)和低电平源电压的任何像素结构。可以响应于根据用户输入的DBV来相关地调节发射占空比(或EM占空比)和低电平源电压。
图4和图5是用于描述图1所示DBV调节器操作的视图。
DBV调节器(图1中的10)输出与用户输入相对应的DBV以调节屏幕亮度,如图4所示。当根据用户输入滚动屏幕中提供的亮度控制条并因此亮度带改变时,DBV调节器输出与改变的亮度带对应的DBV。可以预先设计各种数量的亮度带。在图4的示例中,带1对应于最高DBV,并且带11对应于最低DBV,但是亮度带可以被设计为使得带1对应于最低DBV,并且带11对应于最高DBV。在图4的示例中,仅呈现了与带的最大值相对应的DBV(A至K)。然而,可以通过M(M是6或更大的自然数)位表示比图中所示的DBV数量更多的DBV。
DBV(A至K)可以表示不同的亮度带(即,带1至11)。可预设对应于DBV(A至K)的目标亮度值,使得他们匹配伽马补偿曲线(例如,2.2曲线),如图5所示。伽马补偿曲线以查找表的形式存储在数据驱动器的DAC中。在图5的曲线图中,相邻带之间的目标亮度值可以根据DBV(A至K)的插值来导出。
图6是用于描述图1所示的功率调节器的操作的视图。图7是用于描述图1所示的占空比调节器的操作的视图。此外,图8是用于描述图1所示的伽马调节器的操作的视图。
根据实施例的电致发光显示装置可以通过如图6和图7所示的功率调节器和占空比调节器的互补操作来提高图像质量。此外,根据实施例的电致发光显示装置可以通过如图6至图8所示的功率调节器、占空比调节器和伽玛调节器的互补操作来进一步提高图像质量。例如,可获得改善低灰度级亮度均匀性、减轻低灰度级余像、以及减少漏电流的效果。
可以将根据DBV的屏幕亮度分为第一亮度部分X1和第二亮度部分X2,如图6和图7所示。第二亮度部分X2的亮度高于第一亮度部分X1的亮度。第一亮度部分X1对应于低亮度部分。第二亮度部分X2对应于高于低亮度部分的剩余亮度部分。
功率调节器可以如图6所示根据与伽马补偿曲线匹配的目标亮度,在预设电源电压范围内根据DBV调节低电平源电压EVSS。换言之,功率调节器在第一亮度部分X1中将低电平源电压EVSS固定为第一电平L1,并在第二亮度部分X2中将低电平源电压EVSS逐渐降低到比第一电平L1低的第二电平L2作为下限。第一电平L1是电源电压范围中的最高电平,并且第二电平L2是电源电压范围中的最低电平。
如图7所示,占空比调节器可以根据DBV调节发射占空比(或EM占空比),以使得其在第一亮度部分X1中将发射占空比逐渐增加到被设置为低于100%的上限UL,并且在第二亮度部分X2中将发射占空比固定为上限UL。在第一亮度部分中,发射占空比可以从0%逐渐增加到上限UL。此外,在第一亮度部分X1中,发射占空比可以从J%(J大于0且小于上限)逐渐增加到上限UL。
如图8所示,伽马调节器可以根据DBV调节伽马电压串的输出电压范围,以使其在第一亮度部分X1中将输出电压范围固定为第一电压范围VR1,而在第二亮度部分X2中将输出电压范围逐渐增加到比第一电压范围VR1宽的第二电压范围VR2。
在第一亮度部分X1中,低电平源电压EVSS和伽马电压串的输出电压范围是固定的,并且发射占空比与亮度成比例地增加,因此可以提高低灰度级图像质量。然而,可以将发射占空比设置为小于100%,期望地,设置为88%至94%的范围内的任何值,使得在第一亮度部分X1中不发生亮度反转现象。
在第二亮度部分X2中,发射占空比是固定的,低电平源电压EVSS与亮度成比例地减小,并且伽马电压串的输出电压范围与亮度成比例地增加,并因此可以降低功耗,并且可以在中间灰度级和高灰度级中提高图像质量。
图9和图10是示出根据发射占空比的亮度变化的视图。图11是示出在低亮度部分中当发射占空比被设置为100%时发生亮度反转现象的视图。图12是示出在第一亮度部分和第二亮度部分中调节发射占空比和低电平源电压的示例的视图。此外,图13是示出在低亮度部分中当发射占空比被设置为88%至94%时改善亮度反转现象的视图。
参照图9和图10,亮度不随着发射占空比的增加而连续增加。在亮度增加部分中,亮度与发射占空比成比例地增加。然而,在亮度降低部分中,亮度随着发射占空比的增加而降低。发射占空比是发射信号的PWM占空比,并且因为第n第二栅极线15b(n)和第四节点N4通过图3中的寄生电容器Cp耦合(EM耦合),所以尽管PWM占空比增加,但是也可以生成亮度降低的亮度降低部分。
亮度增加部分可以是PWM占空比为大约0%到87%的亮度部分,而亮度降低部分可以是PWM占空比为大约95%到100%的亮度部分。亮度增加部分和亮度降低部分之间的亮度部分是亮度停滞(stagnation)部分。亮度停滞部分意味着具有相对小的亮度变化的亮度部分,而不是固定的亮度部分。亮度停滞部分可以是PWM占空比为大约88%到94%的亮度部分。
如图11所示,当将发射占空比的上限UL设置在亮度降低部分(95%到100%)内时,可发生第一亮度部分X1中的亮度反转现象,并且当将发射占空比的上限UL设置为100%时,第一亮度部分X1中的亮度反转现象可达到最大。因为通过寄生电容器的EM耦合的影响大于由于亮度降低部分(95%到100%)中的发射占空比减小而导致的驱动电流减小的影响,所以发生亮度反转现象。当将发射占空比的上限UL设置为100%时,通过寄生电容器的EM耦合的影响达到最大。
因此,当将发射占空比的上限UL设置为小于100%时,如图12和图13所示,EM耦合的影响减小,并因此可以改善亮度反转现象。特别地,当将发射占空比的上限UL设置在亮度停滞部分(88%至94%)内时,可以进一步改善亮度反转现象,并且可以实现平滑和自然的亮度变化。
另一方面,当将发射占空比的上限UL设置为小于88%时,难以实现自然的亮度变化。因此,考虑到功耗降低、图像质量提高和亮度反转改善,期望将发射占空比的上限UL设置为88%至94%范围内的任何值。
本公开内容的实施例具有以下优点。
根据本公开内容的实施例,因为互补地调节发光元件的发射占空比和低电平源电压,所以可以提高屏幕的整个亮度部分中的图像质量,并且可以降低功耗。
根据本公开内容的实施例,由于在低亮度部分中EM耦合的影响减小并且改善了亮度反转现象,所以可以进一步提高屏幕的低亮度部分中的图像质量。
根据本公开内容的实施例,因为以与发光元件的发射占空比和低电平源电压成互补关系地调节伽马电压串的输出电压范围,所以可以进一步提高屏幕的整个亮度部分中的图像质量。
本领域技术人员将理解,利用本公开内容可以实现的效果不限于上文已经具体描述的,并且从接着的详细描述中将更清楚地理解本发明的其他优点。
本领域技术人员将理解,在不脱离本发明的精神或范围的情况下,可以对本公开内容进行各种修改和变化。因此,本公开内容的范围应当由所附权利要求及其合法的等同方案来确定,而不是由以上描述来确定。
Claims (18)
1.一种电致发光显示装置,包括:
显示面板,包括多个像素,每个像素包括发光元件;
DBV调节器,被配置为根据用户输入来输出具有不同值的亮度数据,以调节所述显示面板的屏幕亮度;
占空比调节器,被配置为根据所述亮度数据来调节所述发光元件的发射占空比;以及
功率调节器,被配置为根据所述亮度数据来调节要施加到所述像素的低电平源电压,
其中,所述屏幕亮度包括第一亮度部分和具有比所述第一亮度部分的亮度高的亮度的第二亮度部分,
所述发光元件的发射占空比在所述第一亮度部分中逐渐增加到被设置为小于100%的上限,并且在所述第二亮度部分中被固定为所述上限。
2.根据权利要求1所述的电致发光显示装置,其中,所述上限是在88%至94%的范围内的任何值。
3.根据权利要求1所述的电致发光显示装置,其中,所述低电平源电压在所述第一亮度部分中被固定为第一电平,并且在所述第二亮度部分中逐渐降低到与低于所述第一电平的第二电平相对应的下限。
4.根据权利要求1所述的电致发光显示装置,还包括伽马调节器,所述伽马调节器被配置为根据所述亮度数据来调节伽马电压串的输出电压范围,
其中,所述伽马电压串的输出电压范围在所述第一亮度部分中被固定为第一电压范围,并且在所述第二亮度部分中逐渐增加到比所述第一电压范围宽的第二电压范围。
5.根据权利要求1所述的电致发光显示装置,其中,每个所述像素还包括发射控制晶体管,所述发射控制晶体管被配置为根据基于脉宽调制(PWM)的发射信号来允许或阻止被施加到所述发光元件的驱动电流的流动,
其中,所述发光元件的所述发射占空比与所述发射信号的PWM占空比一致。
6.一种电致发光显示装置,包括:
显示面板,包括多个像素,每个像素包括发光元件;
DBV调节器,被配置为根据用户输入来输出具有不同值的亮度数据,以调节所述显示面板的屏幕亮度;
占空比调节器,被配置为根据所述亮度数据来调节所述发光元件的发射占空比;以及
功率调节器,被配置为根据所述亮度数据在预设电源电压范围内调节要施加到所述像素的低电平源电压,
其中,所述发光元件的发射占空比从0%逐渐增加到被设置为小于100%的上限,并且在所述屏幕亮度的低亮度部分中,所述低电平源电压被固定为所述电源电压范围内的最高电平。
7.根据权利要求6所述的电致发光显示装置,其中,所述上限是在88%至94%的范围内的任何值。
8.根据权利要求6所述的电致发光显示装置,还包括伽马调节器,所述伽马调节器被配置为根据所述亮度数据来调节伽马电压串的输出电压范围,
其中,所述伽马电压串的所述输出电压范围在所述低亮度部分中被固定为最窄的第一电压范围。
9.根据权利要求8所述的电致发光显示装置,其中,所述发光元件的所述发射占空比被固定为所述上限,所述低电平源电压逐渐降低到所述电源电压范围内的最低电平,并且在所述屏幕亮度的剩余亮度部分中,所述伽马电压串的所述输出电压范围逐渐增加到比所述第一电压范围宽的第二电压范围,所述剩余亮度部分的亮度高于所述低亮度部分的亮度。
10.根据权利要求6所述的电致发光显示装置,其中,每个所述像素还包括发射控制晶体管,所述发射控制晶体管被配置为根据基于脉宽调制(PWM)的发射信号来允许或阻止被施加到所述发光元件的驱动电流的流动,
其中,所述发光元件的所述发射占空比与所述发射信号的PWM占空比一致。
11.一种用于驱动具有显示面板的电致发光显示装置的方法,所述显示面板包括多个像素,每个像素包括发光元件,所述方法包括:
根据用户输入来输出具有不同值的亮度数据,以调节所述显示面板的屏幕亮度;
根据所述亮度数据来调节所述发光元件的发射占空比;以及
根据所述亮度数据来调节要施加到所述像素的低电平源电压,
其中,所述屏幕亮度包括第一亮度部分和具有比所述第一亮度部分的亮度高的亮度的第二亮度部分,
所述发光元件的发射占空比在所述第一亮度部分中逐渐增加到被设置为小于100%的上限,并且在所述第二亮度部分中被固定为所述上限。
12.根据权利要求11所述的方法,其中,所述上限是在88%至94%的范围内的任何值。
13.根据权利要求11所述的方法,其中,所述低电平源电压在所述第一亮度部分中被固定为第一电平,并且在所述第二亮度部分中逐渐降低到与低于所述第一电平的第二电平相对应的下限。
14.根据权利要求11所述的方法,还包括根据所述亮度数据调节伽马电压串的输出电压范围,
其中,所述伽马电压串的输出电压范围在所述第一亮度部分中被固定为第一电压范围,并且在所述第二亮度部分中逐渐增加到比所述第一电压范围宽的第二电压范围。
15.一种用于驱动具有显示面板的电致发光显示装置的方法,所述显示面板包括多个像素,每个像素包括发光元件,所述方法包括:
根据用户输入来输出具有不同值的亮度数据以调节所述显示面板的屏幕亮度;
根据所述亮度数据调节所述发光元件的发射占空比;以及
根据所述亮度数据在预设电源电压范围内调节要施加到所述像素的低电平源电压,
其中,所述发光元件的发射占空比从0%逐渐增加到被设置为小于100%的上限,并且在所述屏幕亮度的低亮度部分中,所述低电平源电压被固定为所述电源电压范围内的最高电平。
16.根据权利要求15所述的方法,其中,所述上限是在88%至94%的范围内的任何值。
17.根据权利要求15所述的方法,还包括根据所述亮度数据调节伽马电压串的输出电压范围,
其中,所述伽马电压串的输出电压范围在所述低亮度部分中被固定为最窄的第一电压范围。
18.根据权利要求17所述的方法,其中,所述发光元件的所述发射占空比被固定为所述上限,所述低电平源电压逐渐降低到所述电源电压范围内的最低电平,并且在所述屏幕亮度的剩余亮度部分中,所述伽马电压串的输出电压范围逐渐增大到比所述第一电压范围宽的第二电压范围,所述剩余亮度部分的亮度高于所述低亮度部分的亮度。
