Abstract

一种适配组件(10),用以将两个单独的光纤连接器(12)固定成总是并排平行对齐。该组件包括有一对贯通孔(34)的壳体(32),当连接器轴向插入贯通孔时适于将连接器基本上并排固定住。壳体实际上完全环绕着连接器。在壳体与各光纤连接器之间有配合的互相咬合的锁紧构件(44,46),用以在连接器插入贯通孔时自动锁紧连接器。锁紧构件的结构提供了在壳体与各光纤连接器之间的空动,从而使连接器与壳体间能浮动。

Description

光纤连接器的适配组件
技术领域
本发明一般涉及光纤连接器领域,具体说涉及一种适配组件,用以将一对单独的光纤连接器固定在一起。
背景技术
光纤器件使用单股或多股光纤,每条光纤有一圆形玻璃内芯,其周围覆有折射率不同的包覆层。光沿内芯传输,在内芯与包覆层之间的界面上全反射。这类器件可用作传输线,以传送产生光能的信息。传输线可由单根光纤形成,也可包括多股捆绞在一起的光纤。此外,可使几条传输线并排设置,而沿每条分开的线路同时传送信息。
从前,光纤系统使用的是单工互连系统,具有一些单独的连接插头,用以接到单独的光缆上。在一种单工系统中,一次只能进行信息的发送或者接收。因此,单工系统受到它们在给定时间内所能发送和接收的信息量的限制。
为了增加光纤系统之间通信的信息量,曾研制出多通道的系统。这种多通道的系统包括例如双工连接插头和光缆,能够同时进行发送和接收。于是,用双工系统能使信息以更高的速率传输。
尽管这种多通道纤系统有许多优点,并且相当新颖,但是许多单工系统和部件(例如ST和SC型连接器)似在使用。再有,单工部件容易使用,并且因为是现存商品,因而价格低廉。另外,如果不花费大的成本,就很难以双工或其他的多通道部件来改造目前的单工系统。因此,需要一种互连系统,该系统能使单工和双工部件配合起来,并能使单工部件以双工结构互连,从而提供双向数据传送。针对这种情况已提出几种方案,其中典型的一种是有一适配器结构,即夹持住两个单独的连接器外壳,将两个连接器并排固定在一起,以形成一个双工连接器。
发明内容
本发明意图提供一种改进的更可靠的适配器构件或组件,用以并排固定一对连接器,确保该对连接器总是保持在平行的位置上。
因此,本发明的目的在于提供一种新的改进的适配组件,以便将两个单独的光纤连接器总是并排平行对齐地固定在一起。
在本发明的一个典型实施例中,适配组件包括一个有一对贯通孔的壳体,用以当光纤连接器由轴向插入贯通孔后基本上并排地固定住该连接器。壳体实际上完全环绕着连接器。在壳体与各光纤连接器之间设有配合的互相咬合的锁紧构件,以便在连接器插入贯通孔时自动将该连接器锁紧在贯通孔中。在壳体与各光纤连接器之间还具有空动(lost motion)结构,以便在连接器与壳体之间至少在贯通孔的横向上可以浮动(floating motion)。
更具体说,所述咬合锁紧构件包括在壳体的每个贯通孔内的一凹槽,以便容纳各光纤连接器上的锁紧凸起。该凹槽比锁紧凸起要大,以构成空动结构。换句话说,该空动结构至少包括咬合锁紧构件的一部分。
本发明的其他特征包括在壳体上有一凸斜面,以便在锁紧凸起与锁紧凹槽咬合前的瞬间与锁紧凸起接合。连接器截面通常呈矩形,贯通孔通常呈盒状。锁紧凹槽和锁紧凸起的组合方式之一是设置在壳体中的各贯通孔的相对两侧上,例如在每个贯通孔的顶部和底部内。
从以下结合附图的详细描述中可清楚地看到本发明的其他目的、特点和优点。
本发明的创新特点特别表述在所附的权利要求书中。本发明以及其目的和优点可参照以下结合附图的说明得到更深入的了解。附图中同样的标号代表类似的部件。

具体实施方式
详细参看附图,首先参看图1。总标号为10的本发明的适配组件用于固定两个总标号为12的单独的光纤连接器,使其总是并排平行对齐,以便使连接器能容易地插入总标号为14的一个双工插座,或其他的双工连接器件中。每个光纤连接器12都包括一个通常呈矩形的外壳16,带有一个从外壳后部突出的护套18,以保护光缆20。如上面背景技术中所述,每条光缆都有一圆形玻璃内芯22,其周围覆有包覆层。如图1所示,内芯位于光纤连接器的环箍24的中心。
如上所述,适配组件10设计成用来固定连接器12,使其总是并排平行对齐,以便连接器易于插入双工插座14。该插座有一对处于凸缘28两边的矩形插口26。连接器12从凸缘28的右面依箭头“A”的方向插入插口。外壳16的前沿或角部被倒角,如标号30所指处,以便于将连接器导入双工插座14的插口中。第二对连接器或其他配合的连接器件从双工插座14的凸缘28的左面插入插口26,以便与连接器12配合。配合后,光沿内芯22发送到连接器及配合的连接器件上和从连接器及配合的连接器件返回来。
结合图1而参看图2,适配组件10包括一个总标号为32的壳体,壳体内有一对矩形或盒状的贯通孔34。壳体32为整体结构,可用塑料整体模制。贯通孔34适于固定光纤连接器12,使其在以箭头“B”(图2)方向轴向插入贯通孔34时能基本上成为并排排列。当连接器如图1那样插入后,壳体32实际上完全环绕住贯通孔34内的连接器。具体说,每个贯通孔都有其顶壁36、底壁38和外侧壁40。两个贯通孔有一公共内侧壁42,构成贯通孔之间的隔板。
通常,配合的互相咬合的锁紧构件设置在壳体32与各光纤连接器12之间,以便在连接器插入贯通孔时自动将连接器锁紧在贯通孔34中。更具体地可参看图3和4并结合图1和2,其锁紧构件包括在壳体各贯通孔34的每个顶壁36和底壁38中分别设置的锁紧凹槽44。在各连接器12的外壳16的顶部和底部形成有锁紧凸起46。图3和4表示出各连接器12的顶部和底部上的锁紧凸起46处于壳体32中各贯通孔34的顶部和底部的锁紧凹槽44内的情形。
特别参看图3,在壳体32的各贯通孔34的顶部和底部紧靠每个锁紧凹槽44的前面形成一个凸斜面50。当连接器12按图3上箭头“B”的方向插入其相应的贯通孔34中时,锁紧凸起46将与凸斜面50接触,从而使顶壁36和底壁38分别向外偏移。由于壳体是用塑料模制的,其顶壁和底壁具有弹性,使锁紧凸起46能“咯嗒”一声锁紧咬合到壳体的锁紧凹槽44中。
通常,在壳体32与各光纤连接器12之间具有空动结构,使连接器与壳体之间能浮动。具体可参看图4,由图4可看出,锁紧凸起46的横向尺寸小于锁紧凹槽44的横向尺寸,于是,由连接器的位置和锁紧凸起的相应位置决定,在锁紧凹槽的一端或两端留下了敞开的空间52。换句话说,给锁紧凹槽中的锁紧凸起的相对移动或空动至少在贯通孔34的横向留下了空隙。因此,当光纤连接器12由壳体32固定成并排对齐时,并且整个该组件已与双工插座14(图1)配合时,光纤连接器能相对于壳体移动,在操作者拿着壳体时,可使连接器能插入双工插座的插口26中。连接器相对于壳体的这种横向浮动因有连接器外壳16的倒角30(图1)而得到增强。
回过头来再看图3,可以看出锁紧凸起46的前后尺寸小于锁紧凹槽44的前后尺寸,于是在标号54处在其间提供了一些空间或“活动间隙”。因此,空间54成为各光纤连接器12与壳体32之间在前后方向上的相对移动或空动结构。更重要的是,空间54与横向空间52、空间55和空间56(图4)结合起来,允许连接器与壳体之间能全面浮动,可以看作是既在“X”方向也在“Y”方向上浮动。这使得在该双工组件插入双工插座14的插口26时连接器能自身对齐。
应当了解,本发明可以其他特定方式实施而不违背本发明的精神或关键特征。因此,所举的例子和实施方式的各方面均应看作是举例性的而不是限制性的,本发明并不受本文所举细节的限制。

Claims (11)

1.一种适配组件(10),用以将两个单独的光纤连接器(12)固定成总是并排平行对齐,其特征在于包括:
一个壳体(32),具有一对贯通孔(34),适于在所述连接器由轴向插入贯通孔(34)时将所述光纤连接器(12)基本上并排地固定住,所述壳体实际上全面环绕着所述连接器;
处于所述壳体(32)与各光纤连接器(12)之间的配合的互相咬合的锁紧构件(44,46),用以在所述连接器插入所述贯通孔(34)时将连接器自动锁紧在贯通孔中;以及
处于所述壳体(32)与各光纤连接器(12)之间的空动结构(52,54),以提供连接器与壳体之间的浮动。
2.如权利要求1所述的适配组件,其特征在于,所述空动结构(52,54)至少包括所述锁紧构件(44,46)的一部分。
3.如权利要求1所述的适配组件,其特征在于,所述锁紧构件包括所述壳体各贯通孔(34)内的锁紧凹槽(44),用以容纳各光纤连接器(12)上的锁紧凸起(46)。
4.如权利要求3所述的适配组件,其特征在于,所述锁紧凹槽(44)的尺寸比所述锁紧凸起(46)的尺寸要大,以提供所述的空动结构(52,54)。
5.如权利要求3所述的适配组件,其特征在于,还包括在所述壳体(32)上的凸斜面(50),以便在所述锁紧凸起(46)咬合到所述锁紧凹槽(44)前的瞬间与锁紧凸起(46)接合。
6.如权利要求1所述的适配组件,其特征在于,所述空动结构包括在所述壳体(32)的贯通孔内的尺寸更大的锁紧凹槽(44),以容纳所述连接器(12)的锁紧凸起(46)。
7.如权利要求1所述的适配组件,其特征在于,所述连接器(12)的横截面呈矩形,而所述贯通孔(34)呈盒状。
8.如权利要求1所述的适配组件,其特征在于,所述连接器(12)的横截面呈矩形;所述贯通孔(34)呈盒状;所述锁紧构件包括所述壳体(32)的各贯通孔(34)内的锁紧凹槽(44),用以容纳各光纤连接器(12)上的锁紧凸起(46),其中所述锁紧凹槽(44)的尺寸比所述锁紧凸起(46)的尺寸要大,以构成所述空动结构。
9.如权利要求8所述的适配组件,其特征在于,还包括在所述壳体(32)上的凸斜面(50),以便在所述锁紧凸起(46)咬合到所述锁紧凹槽(44)前的瞬间与锁紧凸起(46)接合。
10.如权利要求8所述的适配组件,其特征在于,还包括在各贯通孔(34)顶部和底部的一个所述锁紧凹槽(44),以及在各光纤连接器(12)顶部和底部上的一个相应的锁紧凸起(46)。
11.如权利要求8所述的适配组件,其特征在于,所述锁紧凹槽(44)的尺寸既在贯通孔(34)的横向也在其纵向上都大于所述锁紧凸起(46)的尺寸。
