Background
Wool fibers are developed from cells on the skin of sheep. Cells where the wool first grows start to multiply. Forming a protrusion extending down into the skin where the skin is recessed to become a hair follicle. The wool in the skin is the hair root, the lower end of which is covered by the hair papilla, and the hair papilla supplies nutrients, so that cells continue to reproduce, grow upwards and protrude out of the skin to form wool fibers.
