铁元素是构成人体的必不可少的元素之一,缺铁会影响到人体的健康和发育,最 大的影响即是缺铁性贫血,世界卫生组织的调查表明,大约有 50%的女童、20%的成年女 性、40%的孕妇会发生缺铁性贫血。补铁是通过食物或药物方法为人体额外补充必须的、适 量的无机铁或有机铁化合物,从而补充铁元素以达到强身健体、预防或辅助治疗疾病的目的;铁是血红蛋白的组成成分,血红蛋白参与氧的运输和存储。由于体内铁的储存不 能满足正常红细胞生成的需要而发生的贫血称为缺铁性贫血,一般会在持续缺铁3-5个月时发生。直接参与人体能量代谢,对人体免疫系统有影响,只有正常含量的铁才能保证人体健康。
