根据本发明已发现操纵可口性增强组合物的蛋白质与磷比率可对具有肾虚的动物产生特定可口性增强作用。具体地说,维持小于17∶1;或小于15∶1;或小于12∶1;或11∶1、10∶1、9∶1、8∶1、7∶1、6∶1或5∶1的蛋白质与磷比率产生增加的可口性,特别是在具有肾虚的动物(例如猫和狗)中,而对健康动物不会显示相同作用。因此,本文所述的组合物尤其有益于具有肾虚的动物,所述动物倾向于患有食欲下降。尽管具有相对高磷水平的可口性增强剂增强消耗,但是总磷水平可能保持在低水平,如这些动物所需要的。

实施例1-宠物食品可口性增强剂的制备和测试
将具有24.7的磷与蛋白质比率的标准猫食可口性增强剂(标准)与根据本发明的具有11.4的磷与蛋白质比率的可口性增强剂(测试)进行比较。可口性增强剂具有以下组成:
可口性增强剂以在正常猫中提供相等可口性的水平用于相同食品中。两种食品的营养含量方面也不存在显著差异,其中具有标准可口性增强剂的食品含有28.0%蛋白质和0.48%磷,而具有根据本发明的可口性增强剂的食品包含28.0%蛋白质和0.51%磷(基于干物质的营养浓度)。
